This song was the defining ballad of the soundtrack to my parents' courtship. I remember as a young child whenever it played on the radio and only one of them was home, whomever it was either mom or dad, would smile with a far-away look in their eyes. Of course it wasn't until I was older that I came to comprehend hearing this song swept them away in the nostalgia of first falling in love with each other. We suffered the heartbreaking loss my mom last December to cancer having just celebrated her 60th birthday nine days prior. My father was especially devastated when she was taken from us far too early. While there will inevitably be a different tone to the memory this song evokes in dad, I dearly hope it still transports him to a place of sweet memory of their young love...

Every song is a piece of art. Everything that anyone makes for the sake of expression is a piece of art. Whether you like it or not doesn't matter. The creation of art is ubiquitous and a fundamental human activity. Of course there's good art and there's bad art. But, art as a product of expression should be respected for what it is. A question that one could ask is, "Does art that is compelled by societal pressures (money, sex, fame) count as art?" I think the answer is, "Yes, it does." The reason being that humans are always compelled by social pressures. No artwork that's ever been produced can be separated from societal pressures.

I am 23 now and I discovered this song in my first solo trip in Amsterdam in december 2023. It was grey all the time but this song got the vibe. This is going to remain inside of me till I die or even more than that. It's amazing how music can bring you to specific moments in life where you can even feel the weather or the smell in memories. Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.

What happened to this world? The adults from the 70's, 80's and 90's lived in a bubble that ended up popping on the rest of us. I only graduated high school in 1997, so I just missed it, but yeah, the people who generally feel nostalgia for that time period didn't realize or acknowledge the mess they lived in. The result is a culture in America that is so out of touch with reality that we don't even take COVID-19 seriously when it threatens to wipe out our entire economy. We don't even take Trump seriously even though he does his best to act like our problems aren't real. We don't even take our systemic injustice and corruption seriously because we expect our politicians to lie to us, and then we pick which lies of theirs we want to accept so that we can ignore the others. In a way, it's the same as baby boomers who don't remember the madness of the 50's and 60's, only the music and happy-go-lucky oversimplification of right and wrong that was being fed to them by their leaders.

I know what you mean. I've got a whole list of songs for night time travel and nearly all of them are from the 80s.

I'm 76 and still listening to the best music, of course the 80s. Brings back many memories.

i think it is very cool that despite your age, and the fact that you were already in your 40's in the 1980s, you still had the taste and presence of mind to recognize and enjoy the amazing musical creativity in that decade...just as I did! I am only 45 so I was a youngster back then, but, I loved it probably just as much as anyone else that lived through that time!

@@EphemeralProductions Thank you. It probably had also something to do with the fact that I played bass guitar in a group for 6 years and so had a particular interest in music. I find that some songs at the beginning of he 90s were also very good but unfortunately tailed off during this period. I still love dancing disco fox with my wife but cannot find discos catering for people much over 50. But that is life, all good things come to an end sometime. However we listen to 80s music just about every day.

@Greg Hubbard Well Greg, in some way you're right, however in retrospect I find the music of the 80s better than the 60s. I was playing the guitar myself from 1959 until 1966 and found at that time most music was good - obviously. But now I still find the 80s best, regardless of what anybody says. BUT everybody has a right to say their views - at least in most western countries.

How accurate you are about the timeless classics. I just looked this song up bc I’m feeling nostalgic and wished to revisit my teen years. I was 16 when this song was released. *hobbling slowly out as I lean heavily on my granny walker*.
