Suitable parameters to direct drive friction weld 125/100mm OD/ID steel tube would be 450 to 800 rpm, rotating force ( Frictioning) = 208 kilonewtons, ( 21,000 kgsF, Forge force ( Stopped) 550 kN (56,000 kgsF), loss of length during frictioning = 9.0 mm, then total loss of length with forge collapse = 14 mm. Edit: Approx motor power needed would be 185 kilowatt. Don't think the lathe bearings would take it.lol.
@RolandElliottFirstG3 жыл бұрын
@@bostedtap8399 The Axial load on tapered roller bearings in that lathe would probably take approx 14 kgsF , also the loss of 14mm would have to be allocated into the final OEM parameters.

This is an old video but I noticed you don't use the TIG for the root pass as of late. You can of course get a full thickness weld from the outside with the MIG by having a 1/8th gap between the parts (just like the pipe welders do). You can presumably prevent splatter by stuffing a dead cat (or small wallaby) down the hole backed by some anti spatter spray. Is this the approach you now take or would you still prefer the TIG for full thickness?
