Super handy info! I really like that relocation of the choke, think I'll do that on my dyna. I've also seen that they make plastic sliders for those carbs too and them being so light helps the carb to be a little more responsive.

Seems a clear explanation of this carb ( and generally). I'm late in the game learning all this detail and this was really helpful. Have this carb on on a 2006 Road King 88" motor rebuilt with S&S cam & pinion gears, cams, to 95", that I just removed a gear driven MagnaCharger from (all sitting in a rigid frame springer). Long story, but mostly wanted the 'skinny' look back. I bought it, rode it as a 2nd 'toy' to a H-D Slim/now Deluxe - it was fun. But by now for me, crazy fun. Thanks again.

Looks like you have the Dyno Jet kit in your carb. The stock carb doesn't have an adjustable needle, and the lil washers go on the bottom of the E-clip to slightly raise the needle out of the main jet, not on top of the E-clip. The CV carb is a damn good carb.
@Rapsgarage
@Rapsgarage 10 ай бұрын
You are correct that I have that kit. However, the washers go on top of the E-clip and hold it down so that it doesn’t bounce around when the bike is running. The E-clip sets the height not the washers. Thank you for watching and if you haven’t, please subscribe.

I do try and gather all the information I can from the different sources and of course one your source is right up there. Recently I put a CV carburetor on a 96 cubic inch Softail my neighbor had that I had helped him build or rebuild from a wrecked bike or it was burnt I mean. It got into a rough patch he lost his son and he really needed something to take his mind off and it took us good 3 months. It ran fine for a couple years but then had a problem with a couple of codes and it wouldn't take any throttle the I know maybe I've spoke to you about this before I know I've spoke to other people but being of well older person sometimes I forget things. Anyway I put a carburetor on it the CV carburetor I had a couple of carburetor bodies laying around and rebuild it he bought the parts but when it was hot it would dribble gas out of the overflow when it was sitting on the side stand after you turned it off maybe it was even dribbling before. So I tried putting the last or adjusting the float to have less gas in the float in the carburetor bowl. In the end I took another upper section which I thought the or the float shuts off with the rubber little valve maybe that brass fitting was not the best shall we say. I did that just the other day hopefully it won't leak anymore cuz I didn't want to keep taking or keep reducing the amount of gas in the float bowl I'm sure it would run leaner if I understand it by doing that. Otherwise the bike runs really well you said it runs better than when it had a fuel injection system on it. And I certainly do like the CV carburetors well maybe it's cuz I understand them the best. I've worked on SNS and su and Bendix. I did like the Bendix back from the shovelhead but that's before there was anything else around.

I'd also check the gas tank vent to make sure it working. You could be pressuring the fuel system causing the needle to be forced off the seat.
@MoeLarrycurly1
@MoeLarrycurly1 Жыл бұрын
@@Rapsgarage yeah that's one thing I thought also considering this tank had been in a fire of course it was cleaned up and repainted but you can push air into the tank and the vent works also the gas cap. I have yet to get a really really warm but we'll see how this upper section mated to the other bowl works.

I believe the shims go on the other side of the E- clip to richen the fuel mixture.
@Rapsgarage
@Rapsgarage Жыл бұрын
The e-clip sets the height of the needle in the different grooves in the needle. You have to put the shims on top (as I did in this video) so the needle doesn’t move up and down from vibration. This procedure is not for a stock OEM needle. This is for the aftermarket needle. The way I did this in the video is correct. Thank you for watching and let me know if I can help you further.

If I buy a rebuild kit will the float come pre adjusted to OEM specs?
@Rapsgarage
@Rapsgarage 4 ай бұрын
It does not come pre-adjusted. You have to check it. I check everything! I never assume that when I buy something, even from a reputable company, that it’s correct. I buy pistons from Wiseco I check them. I buy something from S&S. I check it. It may end up being right, but you still have to check it. Do you have any suggestions about how to remove a choke cable if the plunger is stuck in the carb body?
@Rapsgarage
@Rapsgarage Жыл бұрын
I’d try a small drill bit and a wood screw. Drill a small hole, insert the screw then use something to pry up on the screw to pull it out. You can also use a good penetrating oil and let it soak overnight.

Good or bad I like an emulsion tube that has multiple holes along the side I noticed some aftermarket manufactured ones have no holes at all I just feel it runs better with the multiple holes maybe it's just me I don't know. But for my 80 cubic inch Evo yeah 170 or 175 main jet in an n72 needle. I tried the 1988 Sportster needle in ran it for many years but I was hoping I'd get a little better mileage with the other needle
