The 2021 Mazda CX-30 versus the 2020 Mazda CX-3 battle of the compact crossovers. The Mazda CX-3 was the first contender for Mazda in this new formed compact crossover segment. The Mazda CX-30 is the newcomer thanks to a new platform and powertrain availability.
The Mazda CX-3 was introduced in late 2015 as a 2016 model. After great success from the Mazda CX-5 crossover a couple of years earlier, Mazda felt the CX-3 was a good fit for compact sedan owners that wanted a little more cargo room and a little more ride height. It shared a platform and many styling and equipment ques with the Mazda3. The CX-3 has the 2.0L 4 cylinder with 6 speed transmission.
In 2019, the Mazda3 received a new platform and body design that was a little more spacious and stylish. The powertrain upgraded to the SkyActiv G 2.5 L 4 cylinder with more horsepower and ability. The following year Mazda released the CX-30 that had similar styling and room as the new Mazda3 with updated technology and safety.
Mazda decided to keep the CX-3 because of it's strong overseas market and on hand parts availability. In 2020, they made one, jam-packed Sport trim that includes a bunch of features previously available across multiple trim levels of Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.
The 2020 and newer Mazda CX-3 Sport includes: Active driving display, adaptive front-lighting system, advanced Smart City Brake Support with pedestrian detection, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Auto On/off headlights, Automatic Climate Control, High Beam Control, Land Departure Warning, LED Combination taillights, LED headlights with auto leveling, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Rain-sensing wipers, and Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning.
