My Computer Power Backup System QUIT holding a charge!
So, I went shopping around for a new CyberPower system and noticed the replacement batteries which are approved by CyberPower:
Here they are: amzn.to/2oCn1fK
CyberPower RB1280X2A Replacement Battery Cartridge
In this video, I demonstrate the procedure for swapping out old batteries with new cyber power batteries. 10 minutes max.
The backup unit shown is six years old and possibly discontinued. But it still works great and just replacing batteries saved me over 50% as compared to buying a new one.
The current version of this CyberPower 1500 AVR is here:
amzn.to/2oDR6LM
Mine performed extremely well and saved my editing bacon several times as power went out, allowing me to finish projects before shutting down. Lasted six years.

A WARNING BEFORE OPENING THE CASE. If you do a search for "Cyberpower 1500 AVR battery replacement" be advised the manufacturer has changed the case opening protocol *at least* five times on identical-appearing units over the years. (1) single screw removal-front underneath-front panel slides upwards, (2) double front screw removal-front underneath-front panel slides upwards, (3) single screw removal-front underneath- front panel slides downwards, (4) double screw removal-front and back underneath-case splits in half lengthwise, and (5) double screw removal-front and back underneath-quarter side panel 'press and slide' catch at the side nameplate. I fought with mine for nearly an hour before my spouse, who had the benefit of *not* watching any KZbin videos, figured it out cold in about 10 seconds.

Mine was number 5. Very difficult to get batteries back in after replacement. You have to hold both non connector ends up at and angle and force them down temporarily stretching the box front to back.

Same thing for me...just over 10 years of use and then it beeped and my PC just kept turning off and on. Can't say CyberPower UPSes don't last. I plan to swap the battery even though I bought a new CyberPower unit to replace it. Never hurts to have more backups on hand and it's economical to replace the battery.

My CP 1500PFCLCD is 8 years old and I recently started smelling a slight electrical smell. The next day we had a brief electrical outage and my iMac died. No backup! The UPS said it was ok and that there was 48 minutes of backup time, but it wasn't putting out anything when unplugged. I ordered new Expert Power batteries from Amazon. Not official CyberPower batteries, but what-the-heck, they're all made in red China anyway! Today I installed them and all is well. Getting the front cover on was a little tight, but everything was a simple job.

Great video. I have the same unit. I was shocked when I heard and read the comments that yours and others went out after only a few years. I purchased mine back in 2009. It just went out yesterday 4-26-2023. I started wondering if this thing was going to outlive me. Wonder why such a difference in time. Mine has surely been put to the test over the years. Wonder if the batteries are crap now? I guess I will find out if I only get 4 - 6 years out of this new set.

The plastic strips ripped and they would not come out. So I unplugged the face plate , turned it upside down and a couple good shake , they came right out. This last power outtage destroyed the batteries in all 3 of my UPS's. Bought dang near $200.00 batteries in one week!

I got a cheaper battery kit that had higher 9amp/hr batteries, but without the bridge wires, plastic separator plate, nor taped together. I peeled off the tape so it could be saved for reused, carefully removed the bridge wires and separation plate. Then re assembled it back together. I removed 6amp/hr batteries, and installed new 9amp/hr batteries for less than $45.

this is great but buy the batteries separate and save a ton of money i like to use the power sonic PS-1272F2 model batteries in these units (1000-1500 cyber powers) you need 2 of them and they can be found for under 40$ on ebay vs the higher price of the oem pack. and honestly the power sonics are better batteries than those usually. i change them out ALL the time.

Mine has a slight buzzing sound when unplugged or during a power outage. I think it’s normal, long as you don’t hear constant beeping or other indicators lighting up. It will beep twice once every few to let you know it’s running on battery. It did beep like crazy when the old battery was going out.

I have an older model I think than this one (a 1500, looks different). It def. buzzes when under load. Its the conversion from DC to AC power I believe. Overall they're pretty cheap UPS's. I'm thinking the super expensive Pure Sine-Waves might be quieter...

It seems as a product ages the availability becomes harder to obtain replacement parts. It appears the batteries come as a 2 pack now of which you have to reassemble. The batteries are outsourced and I've had some difficulty finding any of the 3rd parties that have the right parts. I may have to try and locate some exact battery matches or scrap the unit for newer model. I too got over 6 years life can't complain as it was hooked to family server all this time .

@@FrederickDunn Yea i did, i found some other videos on it. I just was confused by having 1 black, 1 red, and 1 black cable essentially. But wasn't that complicated. Essentially red coming from the unit connects to red on one batter, black coming from unit goes to black on other, then extra black cable connects the red and black between the two batteries. I just hate electricity so wanted to make sure i got it right watching a video on it.

@FrederickDunn
@FrederickDunn 3 жыл бұрын
I think you're right, it's practical to simply partner two standardized batteries. They tend to wear out at the same time without much difference between them. Not enough to justify saving one that they would put a burden on the new one when it no longer holds a full charge.

Thanks Frederick. I see that CyberPower expects other components in the UPS to degrade over time. They recommend replacement after 8 years (see dl4jz3rbrsfum.cloudfront.net/documents/CyberPower-Infographic_LIFEofUPS_8_19.pdf). That's interesting. I've seen a few reviews indicating that the capacitors are often the next components to fail (fairly common in a lot of electronic equipment); but that CyberPower won't repair this problem. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe other components also typically wear out in short order after that much use... But some of us don't like the idea of an expensive piece of equipment like this being a non-serviceable throw away. Some of the more handy among us opt to extend their UPSs life a tad more by soldering new ones onto the internal printed circuit board. Whether that's advisable or not is hard to say. Some units have been known to have components fail and get very hot.
