I am tempted, but need to see as much as possible before I can commit. I liked the Witcher, but there wasn't enough of a game for me to enjoy long term and I sold it off.

This is the same but the game is even simpler. Take out the timer and the game falls apart. Way too simple gameplay
@sattm82303 ай бұрын
Also if you are a solo player, the Witcher technically plays solo - but you're just competing against a high-score, without any actual solo mechanic. They're hiding the solo mechanic for this game, and my expectation is it won't be much more than what was there for the Witcher.

Can this be played with without a timer? You mentioned a time handicap for new players, what happens if you remove the timer altogether? As a huge Cyberpunk fan, I want this game but the timed nature of this is putting me off.
@TheKingofAverage3 ай бұрын
So the timer goes multiple times and is the trigger for then enemies to move, spawn, etc. as long as you made a different trigger then that's fine. Perhaps a set number of turns for each player?
@lystic93923 ай бұрын
Well you can but it would take away a lot of the tension and difficulty. I suggest looking at some gameplay if you haven't yet. You do take turns, making it less hectic than something like Project: Elite.

That's always my struggle as well. It's hard to really feel how a game plays without actually playing it. I find watching any board game played by others as boring so that didn't help me either.
@joelbethell68793 ай бұрын
Glad that you pointed out the color issue. There are more color blind people than we think, and hopefully the designers put that into consideration!
@TheKingofAverage2 ай бұрын
I always try to point out colors, small print and low contrast. Half of our game rooms are dimly lit bedrooms and most of us on getting on the older side. Accommodations for people in various situations is something that should always be considered :) Since I struggle with oranges in particular, it's something I notice fairly often in board games actually. I know they watched the video so I'm sure they got the message :)

Can you play multiple characters - 2 players with 2 characters each?
@TheKingofAverage3 ай бұрын
You could but I think it'd be hard with the timer present to go through so much. That's going over 8 card total and 2 positions. Though possible, not every gamer I feel could accomplish this well. Some certainly could, I'm sure I could, but not everyone is a "power gamer" so it's not something I'd suggest for everyone. As long as the scaling is good, and the campaign shows extensions of time for difficulty settings, I think it'd be fine with just a lower count and more turns with them
@FreeFragUK3 ай бұрын
I'm sorely tempted as I love the Cyberpunk universe but I honestly don't know if this is worth it as a purely solo game. Based on your review it sounds like this is one to skip.

Orange and brown if too close is terrible UX. Pick something else! I have a game where I never ever take out one of the characters because they are so close in color to an other one that is just ridiculous. Hope they fix it because the game looks amazing otherwise!

I hate to be that guy - this company is the essence of Kickstarter FOMO and bling. Puddle deep mechanics, with lots of production value (I present to you exhibit A - a stretch goal is a sleeve you can put over your box to make the cover male or female). I don't know how this isn't being called out by these KZbinrs, yet they'll berate other companies and games for doing similar (or using apps in games, etc.). By the time the campaign is done I'll wager it'll be a $400-$500 all-in that looks nice without much else other than a timer gimmick that wears off after 5-10 hours of play.
@TheKingofAverage3 ай бұрын
I think there's nothing wrong with you being "that guy" - we all have various likes, dislikes, and opinions and that's totally fine. :) Some want cheaper made games, some want what they buy to as premium as it gets. Some love this style of game and others find it boring after a while. Some want to play a game they buy 100 times and some want legacy style 2 time ever through a campaign. There is nothing wrong with you feeling that way about this game or even this style of game. Others though can and will differ from yours and that's fine too. :)

am I the only one who gets kinda stressed out by even mentioning timer generated gameplay? Me and my buddies usually like to play the cards to the most of their strangth. What if sb gets slightly paralysed by the decision like 2 minutes it's not much. I believe it would fuel the blame for taking too much time on your turn. Also I hate app games... I like my mediums to stay separate.
@dawolvx30983 ай бұрын
Not a fan of a timer at all, I have enough stress all day where I have to make split second decisions on the fly. This one may not be for me. And just having people constantly press the timer to begin, press the timer to stop, look at the app, press the timer to start, press the timer to stop, repeat for each round...damn...and of course the friends with terrible dexterity playing in a hurry due to the timer knocking over the pieces, scattering the cubes, etc...ugh

Everyone seems to be raving about this game but I still find myself skeptical. I feel like I need to see a real playthrough, with real players not the developers and board game reviewers because to me it simply looks too complicated to function in real time. I know I could handle it and enjoy it, but I have been playing board games for years I'm concerned instead for my wife who had ADHD, or my son who is only ten, or that one gamer in my group who always asks who's turn it is when everyone else at the table knows its his. Point is this game looks good but I'm concerned that's mostly marketing. Without the ability to cheat the app like you mentioned I don't think this will support a playthrough with many real groups because most people don't play with groups made up entirely of board game experts.

Backed, but I may not hold my pledge. Timers aren’t fun, and if the game falls apart if you have a chance to play normal turns, then I worry that there isn’t enough there to make it a satisfying experience.

I feel exactly the same. Will probably cancel. Too abstract, and timer seems to be there so you don't see how basic the gameplay is. Rolling a die trying to roll a 6 can be fun if you are on a 10 second timer. But that's wouldn't be a good game
@grahampearson1613 ай бұрын

You can easily replace the timer with houserules. I have the feeling that some people just want to whine about the timer.

Uh, I have a feeling that if I have to house rule your $200 game, then I shouldn’t have paid $200 for it. Not a bright take either, trying to crap on people for giving their honest feedback. A good dev at least collects that sort of response when considering what to do with their next project. Hopefully that’s exactly what these folks do.
