Thanks Tom - I'm always interested in feedback. There is a balance of getting all the information into the video, and not having it drag on so you are skipping through sections. I prefer shorter videos rather than dragging things out when I can, but I accept the feedback for future videos. As an aside, you can always adjust the playback speed to slow things down if you want - simply click the gear icon. Hope that helps.

Hi Tom. There is a KZbin setting that u can click to slow the video down if you would like more time for things to sink in. You can also speed things up with that same setting. Try it at X2. 😉

Just found your channel and love it. I"m a newbie to CNC, looking to purchase within the next couple months. I have a couple systems I'm looking at and one is the Onefinity. Have lots of questions, would be nice to chat with someone that is not trying to sell to me. One question is there much hassle in tool changing during program execution ? Should i look at systems that have ATC as an option?

Hi - thanks for watching. Tool changes for hobbyist level machines is likely going to be manual (I'm not tracking any without ATC systems). The easiest workflow is to save separate files for each tool, then the machine will stop between tool changes. You can have the machine pause and prompt for a tool change if you want (at least with the OF) so you don't have to create separate files. I would love to have an ATC, but I can't justify the cost for how I use my machine. If you are doing production runs with your machine, it might be worth it. All that said, if you're just getting into CNC and looking at machines like the OF, I'd recommend learning on a more simple set up before you jump into something that has an ATC. Hope that helps!

Hi Robert - if I understand the question properly, you need to manually jog to the center of the material and then press the zero buttons (X/Y). It is easiest to move the machine using the game pad if you have one; if not you can jog using the fixed values from the UI. To enter precise movements, you can enter manual gcode using the MDI area within the UI; enter something like G1 X10 to move 10 "units". "units" would be inches or mm depending on the default settings of your machine - you can change that G20 or G21 respectively. You can set absolute vs incremental mode with G90 or G91 respectively. You only need to enter G90 or G20 once. Thanks for the video. When I press "STOP" on screen, everything stops but it does not reset. The job stays grayed out. I usually have to press "Emergency Stop" a couple of times to get it to reset. How do I stop AND reset the file to start over? Thanks!

Hi Fred - when you press stop everything should come back to normal. If it is not, make sure you are using the most current version of the software. There was a defect in previous versions that had issues when stop was pressed (1.0.8 and before). If you are on the latest version, then I would reach out to Onefinity support and seek assistance - you certainly should not have to press estop for any reason other than an emergency. Liked your video and found it informative, Question when going over the XYZ key pad on the touch screen, there are two buttons if you could give some insight to. The Z0 and the button and in the very center of the key pad a circle with a dot int6he center.

Hello Richard. Z0 jogs the machine to where zero for the Z axis and the button in the center jogs the machine to zero for X and Y. I highly recommend you home and zero your machine before using the buttons though so you have some sense of where those buttons will actually take the machine. Thanks for watching!

Hello Beverly - I'm not sure what you mean? Carveco Maker is a desktop software product - you can't put it "on" the controller. You can post process your design and put the gcode on the controller though. I don't know the exact process since I've never used Carveco -- plenty people on the Onefinity forums use it and can provide help though, or you can try chcwithme.com community -- also a lot of Carveco people there as well. Hi Rick - thanks for watching. If you lose power, then you need to start over. If you know your zero location, you can re-home and re-zero to that location and the machine should be able to pick up with nearly perfect results. If you don't know your zero location, then the project will likely be lost unless you can reestablish zero with a great deal of accuracy. Using a UPS to protect from brief power problems can help, but it needs to be sized properly and also support the router with the proper output (e.g., true sine wave vs notched square wave). Ok. So I just got my x50 setup and going through the controls. If I need to "jog" it .001 how can this be done? I'm not seeing where you can type it in and the lowest jog is .005 I'm cutting plastic's and so forth and I really need to be able to jog nitty gritty.

Hello Jesse - there is no button to jog at 0.001. To do that you need to enter gcode manually in the MDI window. If you want to move x to the right, then G1 X .001 (assuming you are in imperial and incremental mode). Move it left using G1 X-.001. Hello Dennis - check to make sure you work coordinates are set properly in Carbide Create and you match those with your Onefinity. Example, if your z zero is the top of the stock in CC, then make sure you zero the OF to the top of your stock. Hope this helps -- thanks for watching!

Hi there. The Onefinity only accepts gcode, in the form of an NC file. STLs will not work - that is why the file is not showing up in the drop down.

How about a public question. This the first time I have ever turned the on switch on, on CNC. Thought I would follow along with your video. However I could not keep up. My program journeyman n x50 call for connecting the mag prob. That does not arrive until Tuesday. Anyway back to the problem. The program listed a yellow warning and would not allow me to go forward. How do I get past this warning. Help. And talk slower

Hi Aaron - if there is a power failure or some other critical failure during operation, there is no facility (currently) to restart where you left off. I believe it has been submitted as a feature request though. Definitely recommend a UPS if you are concerned about power failures (make sure you get one that produces a pure sine wave if you put the router on it).

Michael - you can load gcode directly into the OF from a thumb drive. However, I would NOT recommend running gcode without simulating it first, unless you are 100% sure you know what it is going to do. One question I have for you is I have read on the 1F forum that you can not pause your file in use because it will not start at the point of the pause. Hi Adam - it allows you to set the exact position of the axis manually. The exact location depends on whether the machine has been homed or not. Rather than getting it wrong, here's the actual description by Buildbotics: "If the axis has been 'homed', the 'Offset' field will be adjusted to equal the new value in the 'Position' field minus the value in the 'Absolute' field. If the axis has not been homed, the value in the 'Absolute' field is set to the new value in the 'Position' field and the value in the 'Offset' field is set to zero." How quick will the machine stop if you select the pause button ?

Hi Brian - it will stop at the next command that has not already been processed and buffered. So, you have a lot of little movements, it will stop fairly quickly. If the commands are long movements, it might take a little bit of time to get it stopped completely while the machine completes the movement that has already been sent to the motor controller. In my experience, it stops fairly quickly (.25 seconds?) most of the time. Thanks for watching!

HI Ronald - great question - I'm not sure. I would be really nice if the RPI could mount a remote drive (like a NAS) and pull files from there. Right now you can reverse the situation and mount the RPI, but there are issues getting the Pi to recognize new files. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I am connected to wifi in the client mode but the connectivity is spotty. Sometimes I get connected and some times not. Also I lose connection often. Would using the access point solve these issues? I think the signal is just week. Is there anything I need to do differently when connecting through the access point rather than the client mode?

Hi John - using AP mode should solve the problems with connectivity, but you can't been connected to the Internet at the same time (unless you are using a cell phone with cellular connectivity). Alternatively, you can use an ethernet cable between your router and controller if they are relatively close (cat 5e can be used up to 100m). When you select AP mode, you just need to set the SSID and password. Connect to that SSID with your computer and enter the same password.

Hello Donald - you do not need a computer to 'control' the OF - the controller has a built in computer to send gcode to the machine. You will, however, need a computer to do you CAD/CAM work and generate the gcode for the controller. @@cyberreefguru Thanks for the reply. I am investigating laptops and tablets. I have a desktop but in the house and not close to the shop / cnc. Maybe a bare bones tablet/laptop is good option. Also I would need to extend WIFI from house to shop to make connection to desktop.

You can simply use a USB flash drive to get your gcode from your desktop to your controller. The controller does not have to be on the network.

@@joemurray6323 I think I understand. Onefinity is a little modular than something like Carvewright. It does not come with modeling or CAM software - you are free to use whatever works for you. As long as you can create gcode, the machine will accept it (barring any commands it doesn't understand). I recommend you check out the Onefinity forums or Facebook site to see what others have made with the machine - there are some truly impressive projects.

when one is completely green one explores and suffers, wasting time watching videos which do not pertain. Don't know if you mentioned the below at all or when in your presentation. You state no computer is needed, but it appears only if one has G-code on some sort of media already cooked!? ...as no-one will type all the lines for a project manually surely!? Hardware and operating system the stuff runs on. The controller may use Linux(if I got that right) but the computer may be a windows platform? or not!? ...I may not be in a position to use Linux, or for example if it is not compatible with Apple I would be done in(if I use Apple). ...and of course versions/dates are critical to all compatibility! There is a critical list that should be clearly delineated up-front, that way one may know this video pertains to one's scenario. Right now, after watching the entire video, I have no idea. ...and for instance a comparative basic parallel list of equivalent software to place things in perspective... The Onefinity equipment is up in price, $3,000.00 quickly disappears once one has gathered all the necessary ingredients, thus it is important for one to know how this stuff compares to other equipment before leaping in that direction and I mean within the context of your presentation - software/firmware. Thank you for your effort, I did learn that the Raspberry requires Linux... though I have no idea why it is mentioned in this presentation?
