Yes electric trucks are just not ready for towing. Also currently in most cases your would have to disconnecvt your trailer to be able to charge.

We tow our trailer (although only 5,500lbs) with a 1/2 ton hybrid. It has great torque and in my opinion is the best of both worlds for a light RV. I get great mileage in the city while it takes advantage of the electric motor but have the range needed when doing bigger trips. I share your opinion about the interior of the CyberTruck but am not a fan of the exterior. Until battery range increases exponentially, they are not viable for anyone that wants to drive more than 2 hours at a time.

Saw one parked at Sams Club today. While beyond ugly but dwarfed vehicles in surrounding spaces - including half ton and 3/4 ton. good to see 4 wheel turn and would need them to negotiate tight parking lot. That full glass roof brought out bad memories from last year in Italy, and luckily with concern about Italian driver stereotypes took out the optional insurance on the rental. Middle of the night had a hail storm with what sounded like baseball size hail at the AirBnB outside Verona. While had major dents and cracked windshield, Hertz couldn't replace it because all their cars were damaged by same storm so drove it to Milan for flight back. Other residents/guest in the AirBnB had far more damage, including busted out windows, in their personal car as they were Europeans. Getting back to Tesla, one guest had friends staying further north at Lake Como where the same storm totally destroyed his glass roof Tesla. Got to the Milan airport, turned in the rental...and owed nothing!

Something that has to be addressed for EV towing is the fact that charging stations are not built for trucks with trailers, etc. Every time you charge up you will have to disconnect, drive over to charge station and then charge and reconnect.

If you find a way to put a 50Kw generator on the bed, you may turn this into a range extender for when towing... They need to add at least more 100Kwh to the battery to make it towing worthy but if they come up with a "self-parking" feature to park the trailer, that will be something...

@calledtojourney5 ай бұрын
@@FindingOurSomeday It would be slow. 2 kilowatts of solar output is under 2% of the Cybertruck's capacity. Over the course of a bright summer day, they would only replace about 10-12% (at best) of the truck's capacity (about 10-12 miles of driving while towing, per your test). Those are some big batteries to charge.
@FatOldman38325 ай бұрын
This is to cool. For camping around in state, it would be great and work fine. I could charge it at home, pull to campground in state, then charge the truck at the campsite. I agree, i think around town it would be fine. But in areas of our country that some towns are 100's of miles apart or if you live in rural, back country, you'd have to find a charging station before you could turn around & go home. As well as how the batteries don't do well in cold & extreme heat. More research and refinement needs to be made, as well as the cost needs to come down before most people would buy! Our country’s infrastructure needs to be part of the discussion. EV’s are heavy vehicles. Some, like the Tesla truck, offer extender packages for the bed of the truck (more batteries for longer range). This adds even more weight. I’m thinking of bridges, roadways, parking garages, etc that were not built with capacity for everyone driving with much heavier vehicles on a routine basis. This doesn’t even include the added burden to our electrical grid nationwide which in some areas of the country would cause havoc. I like the idea of them. Would be great if they recharged fully while driving, could actually tow an RV of mid to large size beyond one hundred miles, and had better more ecological ways of mining for lithium for the batteries (it’s pretty awful from the videos of the process in Africa) and disposal of said batteries. I see nothing wrong for those who want to buy them. It’s just that consumers should not be FORCED to buy them. They do look like they have major innovations. Tesla definitely seems to be way ahead of the game in the EV market.

Others don't recommend towing with the cyber truck unless you want to make a lot of charging stops. There is an electric truck that has enough range for towing. Rivian R1S. Depending on what battery pack you get, you can get 375 to 440 on a charge. Cheaper than the cyber truck. You can go to the rivian factory and they will let you test drive. I think they might let you tow, but one of them would be with you. Problem is, there are hardly any pull through charger stations. You can't charge while driving. Most charging stops are 25 to 40 min up to 80%. Detailed information is on "out of spec" channels on KZbin. The ones will be reviews. The range test, motors. Note: most are between 1 and 2 hours. Some are longer.

We'll stick to our diesel truck! I'd hate to have to charge the truck cintinously to get to your final destination. Do you know what the cost is to replace the battery in that truck....just curious. After reading on the internet, I believe the replacement cost is some where between $4,000 - $30,000 depending on the size, make, and model of the truck. It's a nice truck but not practical for a farmer/rancher who camps on his/her free time.

It’s a big battery pack on this , probably close to that 30k number 😳

I wanna find someone trying to charge the CT at a charge station while towing something. No one has done that yet that I've seen. Are there pull thru changing stations?🧐

Did I miss it in the video, how far did you go and what was the mileage towing your RV?

Now if they could increase the tow range, then maybe it would be worthwhile. Maybe.
