Cycling around Lake Tahoe for the FIRST TIME

My first time riding around lake Tahoe was AMAZING! I had Stefano be my guide and show me around this gigantic, and extremely beautiful lake. I brought my family to get away for the first time since the quarantine has lifted. So I talk at the end about my issues with finding balance between bikes and family when traveling.
Cycling around lake Tahoe and especially cycling around Emerald Bay is must. But I'll be honest, the mountain bike trails were where it was at. I got to ride MTB twice and if I had to bring just one bike, it would be the MTB. The lake loop is not very challenging though, so it's a great ride for any skill level. Cycling in Lake Tahoe is best around June to October during a weekday if thats possible. And going clockwise is the perfed direction.

Yeah, it's swesome! My other gobby is photography and there is this exact same quote going around as well. Go on vacation with a family and if you want to do some photography, get up before sunrise, go out shooting and get back around the time kids get up, so you get to do both. Don't be to selfish... 🖖

As a father myself, I have a hard time finding the time to be in the saddle, there's always more work to be done and things for the kiddos, keeping the lady happy with our relationship... Everything! I appreciate when you put some family life balance in your videos! It really gives me hope that I can become a better cyclist and maintain a good famly life too! Thank you!

I'm not a father and I can't find the time and energy for it anymore, LOL. If I was a father kiss it goodbye...I might find the time for 30 minutes on the trainer!!! Cycling is fun but takes a good portion of your time and energy. Hopefully this guy takes the kids sometimes and lets her go have some fun with her friends maybe.

Rode the loop 11 years ago and this guy and a gal pull up along side of me on a Harley...They handed me a beer...So I took it...We rode side by side for maybe a mile...As they accelerated the gal slaps my butt and yells out...”Nice ass dude”. One of the most remarkable moments I’ve experienced in 60+ years of cycling...Cheers!!!

That truck in the beginning is an IVGID vehicle (Incline Village General Improvement District). Maybe contact someone there and show them the video. @@marcuspartridge11 Sounds like it's just not worth it. They'd have to detour and follow that dude god knows how long just to tell him he's being unsafe. Marcus Partridge it’s not worth it though. I have confronted people, then had them try to run me over literally with their car, then called 911 and had the operator say, “what do you want me to do about it sir”. Seriously no joke. Lol. At that point once nobody was hurt it’s just best to move on.

When I did this ride (2 years ago almost to the day!) I noticed the difference in drivers between the Nevada side & California side was like night and day - Cali was nice, courteous, never had a close call. Nevada side was a close call every couple minutes, constant honking, generally unpleasant drivers.

Ahhh, re-living great memories from a year ago. Did "America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride" that follows the same route around the lake with an extra 30 mile loop to make it a century. Even during an organized ride, there were a few areas where traffic was pretty hairy. I had also never been to Tahoe before and was really impressed with how gorgeous it was.

Safeway parking lot meet up! You realize that summer is extremely busy in Tahoe! Take that truck turning times 20x. Only boats with Tahoe Stickers were allowed on the Lake, during the spring months. Yes, Emerald bay is a cluster during the summer - locals avoid at all costs. Good ride is Blackwood Canyon - quiet little to no cars, good hill climb. Long time local with US ski team son.

Great Video! It reminds me of when I did the loop in 2013 when I visited northern California and Nevada for cycling. It was late in April and quite windy and starting in King's Beach I knew that the first half will be tailwind and then 60 km of headwind. I was confident to pick-up a fellow rider or group on the way. However, I was astonished how few cyclists there were and of the few none rally matched my pace It was maybe still early in the year, so I ended up of riding most of the route by myself. The day was beautiful and bright with quite some snow left on the mountains. Coming from Switzerland I know some quite epic rides in the Alps, but Lake Tahoe is definitively very, very special. Your video reminded me of that incredible ride and day, thanks!

4:00 he's right, u just knew that dude was about to turn in front of him. Years of experience will get you used to that, how often they decide to pull around you with 40 feet to cut a turn at 45 mph with no signal. One time my friend had this happen but we happened to be going only about 15 mph. He decided not to cut back across the lane toward the inside, but instead just kept going forward. You can say he ran into the side of his car (as the driver tried to argue), but the police disagreed. Got a brand new bike.

Tahoe works really hard to keep the lake clear. (they were having trouble with run-off from the developments, etc.). It is a very pretty ride. Did it 20 years ago with my Dad. We went counter-clockwise with a 6am start. I'm still impressed that he tackled the ride--he commuted by bike regularly, but I'm not sure he did a ride >10miles before that.
