I am in a state of depression at the moment, but still I wanted to say this. Remember that you are NEVER alone. Maybe you haven’t found the person who will listen to YOU , yet.. but you will. I promise you. YOU are beautiful. YOU are special. It doesnt matter if you suffer from borderline, social anxiety or are lonely. Remember that YOU are worth everything good in this life, and it will come for you

I’ve suffered from depression since I was a kid. Unfortunately suicidal thoughts goes hand in hand. Some might think this is the wrong song to listen too. For me it was perfect, every time I feel like this, this is one off my favs. These feelings are going to be there, and this song makes me look at the things that are truly me. Not what is prominent, and is being blocked by my true me . Thank u Cyndi Lauper. Life is beautiful just like anyone who is reading this. 🙂💜

The older I get the more I can appreciate her. I didn't like her when I was young. But she brought authenticity and raw human emotion back into a music industry that was losing that fast in the 1980s and 90s. And her songs have a real sweetness to them, I mean that in the best way.

@@Thelegend-lo6qf Well the eighties I was a teen so naturally I'm nostalgic. In the eighties, all the musicians said synths and electronics were destroying music. Then rock came back in the 90s. Honestly, both had some good music

@@williamtell5365 Yes! I loved all the electronics they definitely brought innovation but late 90s tech logic program and autotune didn't really do that. But like the 90s definitely had great songs especially on the alternative rock and pop side both my 80s and 90s Playlists are massive lmao🤣

Kacey Davis Agreed. So pure and emotional. Also, for any folks saying they like voices of newer versions better ... apparently they aren't aware that auto-tune wasn't a thing back then like now. Today, even musicians who can sing are using auto-tune. When will it stop so younger generations can know what people actually sound like and who is actually talented vocally? It's crazy. Cyndi's voice was and continues to be perfection. This is one of my favorite songs. I Love Cyndi.

She was always radical, but even with all that individuality, there was always an inherent innocence almost naivety about her music that slowly dismantled all your pretences and left you fully exposed to the entire onslaught of the beauty of her music. A million years from now, you hear her music for the billionth time...and it feels like time never moved from the very first time you heard it.

Nick P that’s I agree i also like the fact that she doesn’t get involved in politics like other artists do. She doesn’t threaten to kill people like madonna recently did about the president and his family. Cindy is a good hearted person with respect

Check out one of Cindi's influences, the Bronx genius singer/songwriter Laura Nyro, Rock Hall of Fame (see youtube), Songwriters Hall of Fame. Nyro wrote the iconic songs And When I Die (1967), Wedding Bell Blues (1966), Stoney End (1967), etc in her mid-teens.

I used to hear this song when I was 12 during some hard times. Hearing it again after all these years really got me emotional. It's really sad when somebody has to experience the darkest period of their life as a 12 year old but that's what school bullies can do to you. I'm now 28 and still trying to fix the psychological damage inflicted from all those years ago.

Cyndi Lauper is the MASTER of minimalist music being huge hits! True Colors has mostly strong and emotional vocals, as does Time After Time. It takes a REAL talent to fill that silence! Vote for her please at the rock and roll hall of fame!!!

True Colors … You with the sad eyes Don't be discouraged Oh I realize It's hard to take courage In a world full of people You can lose sight of it all And the darkness inside you Can make you feel so small … But I see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful Like a rainbow … Show me a smile then Don't be unhappy, can't remember When I last saw you laughing If this world makes you crazy And you've taken all you can bear You call me up Because you know I'll be there … And I'll see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let it show Your true colors True colors are beautiful Like a rainbow … If this world makes you crazy And you've taken all you can bear You call me up Because you know I'll be there … And I'll see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let it show … Your true colors True colors True colors Shining through … I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful Like a rainbow

Lauper is such a good arranger. The original demo of this song was a bombastic power ballad, Cyndi deconstructed it into a sparsely produced track, discussing the power of a whisper. She dedicated to her close friends who died of AIDs. It's truly a classic
