My mums favourite song. She’s battling pancreatic cancer right now. Times running out for her. It’s so hard for me to listen to it. I can’t imagine how I’ll feel when she is actually gone. I’ll be a broken man. I already am tbh but her strength is inspiring. Love you mum

I’ve suffered from depression since I was a kid. Unfortunately suicidal thoughts goes hand in hand. Some might think this is the wrong song to listen too. For me it was perfect, every time I feel like this, this is one off my favs. These feelings are going to be there, and this song makes me look at the things that are truly me. Not what is prominent, and is being blocked by my true me . Thank u Cyndi Lauper. Life is beautiful just like anyone who is reading this. 🙂💜

The older I get the more I can appreciate her. I didn't like her when I was young. But she brought authenticity and raw human emotion back into a music industry that was losing that fast in the 1980s and 90s. And her songs have a real sweetness to them, I mean that in the best way.

I'm surprised at some of the critical comments. Yes, Marina, Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake all have very lovely voices and did great versions of this song, but Cyndi Lauper has a once-in-a-generation voice. It's a voice thats beauty is *because* of its imperfections. It's distinctive, the kind of voice that you can't create through training, production and auto-tuning (not that I'm accusing any of the others I mentioned of that. The Marina and Kendrick/Timberlake versions are clearly beautiful without any production enhancement). Lauper's voice has a vulnerable, emotive quality that simply can't be duplicated. It may not be your cup of tea, but it's not a "bad" voice by any means.

She was always radical, but even with all that individuality, there was always an inherent innocence almost naivety about her music that slowly dismantled all your pretences and left you fully exposed to the entire onslaught of the beauty of her music. A million years from now, you hear her music for the billionth time...and it feels like time never moved from the very first time you heard it.

Cyndi Lauper is the MASTER of minimalist music being huge hits! True Colors has mostly strong and emotional vocals, as does Time After Time. It takes a REAL talent to fill that silence! Vote for her please at the rock and roll hall of fame!!!

Kacey Davis Agreed. So pure and emotional. Also, for any folks saying they like voices of newer versions better ... apparently they aren't aware that auto-tune wasn't a thing back then like now. Today, even musicians who can sing are using auto-tune. When will it stop so younger generations can know what people actually sound like and who is actually talented vocally? It's crazy. Cyndi's voice was and continues to be perfection. This is one of my favorite songs. I Love Cyndi.

We just placed my mama on comfort care. She is 61 years young and was diagnosed a few short weeks ago with stage 4 large cell neuroendocrine tumors of the lungs that have metastasized to most major organs and bones. She has always been a very quiet person who kept most things to herself. This unfortunately included how sick she had been for the last few years. Never once did she complain but she hid her hurt and sickness until it could no longer be hidden. This song takes me back to my childhood with her and even though she kept so much to herself I always saw her true colors.

@@kristenvilla1011 oh Kristen, I have goosebumps. I'm so terribly sorry. Losing someone you care about is incredibly difficult. I'm praying comfort finds all of you through such a tough time. I've been having a difficult time since my mom passed on 5/5/21. We put her on comfort care and the very next day she was gone. It was devastating. No one, including the doctors, thought it would happen so fast. I miss her every second. I'm sending you all the love and positive vibes and I hope it finds you.

Every few years, I need this. I need to hear this. I first heard this when I was a little boy. But, sometimes, I need to be reminded that I am a good man. Maybe I even need to be reminded of what that is! Thank you, Cyndi. You sang to me the words that most can't even say. And, I did need it. Once more. It has been a rough couple of years. I'm trying to put things back together. And this does help. I hope that it felt good for you to read that. It is true.

My best friend was super suicidal, one night she was super upset and angry. I drove over to her house, I found her next to a knife in her bathroom. My heart shattered. I came over sat next to her and hugged her. She ended getting up and we sat her bed and started talking and I said “wanna dance?”. And then this song came on after a few songs, and I saw her face light up, I haven’t seen her that happy in 10 years. I tried to get her help so many times, she didn’t want help though. She was such I beautiful kind girl, I really miss her. I’ll never forget that night 💞

Reggaeton is not beautiful. It's not even art and doesn't have any meaning. It's simply garbage to the same beat. It requires no musical talent, lyrical creativity, or true singing ability.

Stupid comment. Is it really necessary to push a great singer up by downing a musical genre? Lauper made her time. Her time isn’t anymore but her talent still. Whatever you want 2021 is reaggeton. If you’re not happy, you probably hear about suicide.😏

Paloma R. Every artist today uses autotune, not because they can’t sing, they use it because sometimes they get sick and they don’t get vocal damage. Unless you’re a rapper tho, those use a lot of autotune. There are tons of amazing artists out there.
