I do like this though for the Cynthia focus. For the first time, we finally see her feeling frustrated at the idea of being left behind while the other trainers grow stronger. It really highlights how despite her infamous reputation, *she's not invincible.* Even she still has to put in work if she wants to keep up with everyone else.

In that scenario, it was almost implied that she's been winning battles so long, she had almost likely gotten bored with it and wanted to pursue her real interest in that story of exploring Sinnnoh's myths and lore. Here in the games, she's still as passionate about battles as everyone else. And I just find it interesting how even she can still feel like she's hit a wall at certain points. It just shows that despite the pedestal they've all put her on in the past, she's still human. All her fans certainly think she's perfect, but Cynthia herself knows better.

Cynthia, after slaughtering her entire clan (save for her wee sister) using the overwhelming greatness of her Garchomp, used the knowledge gained from her archaeological discoveries to then seal their souls into an ancient keystone to create the very Spiritomb she uses in battle. It all connects together now and quite nicely at that ya sees.

I feel like Volo might still be a descendant of Cynthia I feel like but she senses malicious intend in Volo and doesn't like the fact that he shares interests with her, or at least I think that's what is going on for now.

My theory is that cogita is Volo's ancastor but their so far apart they dont even know it. Cogita is heavily implied to be very old and have many years ahead of her, and uts my theory that she was alove during the events of the antient hero mentioned in Legends Arceus which was 3000 years ago, which is more than enough time to be so far apart from someone in your family tree to not recognize them

Yeah, Volo and Cogita seem like they're from the same small-knit tribe where everyone is related by a few degrees, a remnant of the Celestica people. So Volo wouldn't be Cynthia's great-great grandfather, but certainly one of her ancestors.

@@tlst94 We can't guarantee that, unless it's made canon. I know I don't keep track of that stuff. Though one can argue it would be hard for Cynthia to NOT know, given her knowledge on history. However, Volo never stated anywhere where his direct origin is, and there's a chance Cynthia would recognize the trademark symbol of the Ginko Guild on Volo. She would then wonder, why is her ancestor working for the Guild? Basically, Cynthia likely wouldn't assume something so insane.

It is also much harder to say wether Volo truly is the ancestor. Or at least, Volo is born so far in the past that finding a connection proves to be very difficult. It may just be that Cynthia just comes from a bloodline tracing all the way back to ancient Sinnoh, but not per se directly Volo related.

I really appreciate these little recaps of what goes on in Pokemon Masters since I don't play the game. I think that Cynthia is related to Volo, but she's more directly related to Cogita (they look exactly alike, only Cogita looks like an older version of her) and I think Volo is part of another branch of the family tree. My guess is that Cynthia descends from Cogita and Volo is a relative of her, like the son of a cousin of Cogita or something like that.

I actually think Volo and Cynthia are related. My theory is that Cogita in really old, like alive during the antient hero that was about 3000 ish years ago thats mentioned in pla type old. Shes already heavily implied to have a long life span and have many more years ahead of her. I think that cogita is Volo's antient ancestor. Cogita is celestician and Volo mentions he has celestica blood, sure volo and cogita dont agknoledge eachither but they are 3000 ish years apart, and you wouldnt automatically assume a stranger is related to you just cuase you to look alike. Also im not sure if cogita can have kids, she has some grandmother vibes and though she has a long life span she clearly does show signs of age. I definitely amnt saying that volo ever settled down or found love, i wpuldnt be surpused if he had a kid then left the mother dissapearing to investigate sinnoh's myths or something

Though Cogita is implied to be that old, she doesn't seem PHYSICALLY that old, only about 45-50. The white hair does a lot to make her look older, but look at her face and body compared to the actually old people. Beni is in top shape for his age and he's still bent and shaking, while Cogita walks fully upright.

The gameplay of Pokémon Masters didn't really agree with me, so I appreciate you bringing up those story tidbits. It's not super common to see a youtuber taking a holistic approach to a franchise, for instance with Fire Emblem you're either talking about the mainline games or Heroes but never both. Only Faerghast sprinkles in a couple conversations from Heroes that serve to further characterize, well, the characters, in his character analysis, but that was a while ago.

Volo is Cynthia direct ancestor thats much is known. When you pick Volo with Cynthia he will say that both shares a strange connection. Adaman has hinted how similar Cynthia looks to Volo to Rei. Rei and Akari has also expressed how similar they look to Dawn and Lucas, and we do know their both their ancestors. From PLA Cogita is actually immortal and she might be Volo ancestors and the only 1 left from the Sinnoh people bloodline, excluding Volo and Cynthia. Volo uses Cynthia encounter theme as his battle theme. Even Renegades Cynthia uses her encounter as her battle theme, this is now shared between as Volo and Cynthia. Also not forgetting both have the same Team with exception of 1.

Cynthia is a much better trainer of Pokémon than her ancestor Volo. Evolution weeded out the worst qualities of him in his descendant and she is far better than he will ever be, hence Arceus respects and likes her, and doesn't do that with Volo, who is evil. Cynthia all the way!

The only thing more shocking than a tie between good vs. evil is a battle of good vs. evil involving our favorite Sinnoh champion Cynthia and her accursed ancestor Volo. I guess that level of power runs in the family. Doesn't it. But the point is if there are others that surpass the champions and are more powerful than them, especially Cynthia, then we are REALLY in trouble!

Cynthia's internal dialogue only makes sense if you forget the fact that she formed a Sync Pair with Giratina in this game around the same time that Cyrus did with Darkrai, hence her comment. (Cyrus also has Palkia, mind you. Lucas has Dialga and Dawn has Cresselia) I know the writers are trying to save the moment when the two face off in the tournament, but they're only playing off of Cynthia's struggle just so they can give her, Rei and/or Volo access to the Ultimate Sync Stones this upcoming anniversary (Which I assume is going to be a new broken gimmick and a rank higher than 6S EX Master Pairs. Ultimate Pairs, if you will)

Dang, I didn't know that the ending to Legends Arceus implies that Volo and Cynthia aren't on the same family tree (since I never ended up finishing the game) and that leaves me just a tiny bit sad. Because I can only imagine the drama and tension that could've been possible if they WERE on the same family tree and then met up in an event. Volo would've LOATHED Cynthia for how she "disgraces" his legacy and goals; meanwhile, Cynthia's fascination with Sinnoh folklore, as well as her love for the modern day world of Pokemon, would most likely drive her into a palpable hunger to prove to Volo just how wrong she thinks his beliefs are. I'm still gonna follow this event with the utmost excitement though!
