Weird observation. Why do elderly people move to homes with no stairs?? My mom, now deceased, used to come stay with me in her 70’s. I have a 2 story home w laundry in the basement. She loved doing laundry for me to help out. She commented how living w me for 3-4 weeks that she would loose 5-10 lbs by going up & down stairs plus could feel herself getting stronger by moving quickly thru the house.

You make a great point. I have elderly relatives who live in 2 n 3 story houses. Never an issue. They are aware of diet n keeping physically active too.

Bad knees and joint problems. That is me but I live in a 2 story house and use the stairs because in the winter it is some form of exercise at least. I get both ideas.

It's cultural. Stairs are a huge part of life in Europe, but in the US we have culturally built a life of "ease" which creates a life of disease.

Wondering if there is a biohack to build muscle without weight training? I have had extensive abdomiinal/vaginal prolapse surgery and I am NEVER going to be able to weight bare beyond walking and usual daily activities. Am sure there is lots and lots of people especially over the age of 50 who are not in a position to start lifting weights. Is exercise using ones own body weight enough???

Ok, I've been strength training for 6 months but not at heavy weight. I'm 69, year out from a hip replacement. bad knees, shoulder popping is gone... but I'm concerned at my age that increasing weight may stress joints. Great sleep, plenty of protein, good weight. Any thoughts?

If you can gradually increase the weights and do 8 to 12 repetitions with good form, it's not too heavy. Warm up thoroughly with light weights first to prevent injury. So important. Avoid any exercises that cause pain and "work around" the injury meaning to do the exercises you can do. Muscle is your friend. There are videos on how to perform the exercises correctly. If you can find a good personal trainer might be wise to pay for a few sessions for better understanding. Just tossing weight around without knowing what or how doesn't do much good and can cause harm if done incorrectly. It's why so many only do cardio...

Use resistant band’s. More reps less weight.

Do very small increments week by week. In fact, so small that you'd barely notice a difference in one session; like 1 or 2 pounds each week. That way, in 10 weeks, you might be able to lift 10 pounds more.

Great Interview! I have been working for years to figure out the right thing to do, stop just working on the weight long time ago, trying to figure out the right nutrition for me so that I can get rid of the inflammation and water retention, stress from having autoimmune of MS. I haven't conquered that yet, to get to losing the fat to get to the healthy weight I need to be. So great info, I guess I'll keep fighting a good fight of faith, but it's just hard to know what's the best thing for me to do, but I'm going to continue eating protein and watch the carb count, not good at macros...

Macros are the protein, carbs n fat. Eliminate sugar n processed foods; junk foods/ manufactured food substances and those vegetable n seed oils. Eat natural fats from meat. Avocado, coconut and olive oil are good.

100 grams is not a lot of protein. Look at a converter and it is less than 4 ounces. Who can’t get 4 ounces in a day? That’s a 1/4 lb hamburger patty or a small amount of chicken. It’s small. Am I not thinking about it properly? Is a gram of protein different than an ounce of weight of the meat?
@MelissaJaneKnight
@MelissaJaneKnight Ай бұрын
To get 50g protein in chicken you need to eat 600g. 50g protein in beef - 250g steak. I used to think it meant 50g chicken but that’s not the case at all. Plus unless you make your own burgers, most shops mix them with other stuff like breadcrumbs.

There are about 27 to 30 grams of protein in 4 oz of chicken breast, so you don't just need 100 grams in weight but 100 grams of protein.
