I had one five hours ago - obviously I was bricking it beforehand, but not so much about the procedure, more about what the doctor might find. The camera slipping down my dick was uncomfortable, and I gripped the sides of the bed so tight I thought I'd break it - but it was all over really quickly. Oh the feeling when he said my bladder's all good..... I went into the hospital chapel on the way out (which, ominously, was situated right next to the urology dept...why?!) and had a little cry of relief.

@@mikekaraoke Yes, it's actually not as horrendous as it seems, albeit a little uncomfortable. It was quick I will say. The burning sensation upon urination after the procedure was akin to getting soap in your urethra from the shower and you should be fine a couple hours after that. Most importantly was that the urologist was able to see that my prostate was enlarged(My PSA has been fine but slowly rising) and that my bladder was fine, which is what really worried me the most. No bladder stones were seen as well despite my CT of the Abdomen/Pelvis showing small bilateral stones in my kidneys.

I just had this procedure today and I just want to say thanks so much for your honesty and insight. I watched this vid twice during my 4 day panic attack leading up to this lol and it helped me go in with more realistic expectations. "No pain" is just not true. I really appreciated my urologist being upfront and saying to me "yeah this one sucks and feel free to curse at me if you need to". Definitely would describe it as a pressure and a "pinching" sensation, particularly at the sphincter which is about halfway through the procedure. Apparently there's actually two different ways to administer lidocaine, and the one without the syringe (which I had) is the less painful of the two. Just for anyone reading, you might have options there. Also I found that sitting up more as opposed to laying flat helped me manage the anxiety during it, may just be a personal preference but thought I'd mention that too. Currently have a lot of stinging pain an hour later, so I'd advise anyone doing this to keep your day light after the fact lol. Good luck and don't chicken out if you need this done!

Had this done today and it wasn't that bad. The lidocaine was slightly uncomfortable but only for a couple seconds. There were a few painful moments during the procedure (7 out of 10 on the pain scale) but the pain only lasted about 1 or 2 seconds each time. The procedure took about 2 minutes and there were maybe 7 total seconds of pain. Emptying my bladder afterward felt weird but didn't hurt. If you're getting this done, just take slow, deep breaths and it will be over quickly. The worst part is that you can't have coffee or beer for the next 48 hours.

Man, I saw a Urologist last week, because of an enlarged prostate. She said I need to get a cystoscopy. I came home and searched for cystoscopy and of course, youtube being youtube, immediately came up with a LOT of videos dealing with it. One of them, was yours, this one, and I watched it. I have to say, that while there are tons of clinical videos out there, I was interested in yours, because of the immediacy of it, being only a few hours after you had the procedure. But like others here, I am still debating as to whether or not I am glad I watched it! I mean, you did an insanely great job of detailing it, which is good, but at the same time, it is those details that are scaring the heck out of me! I mean, when you showed that pen, saying it was about the size of the instrument they would be sticking up there, well, that would scare any guy! Heck, I chose my Dr, because I wanted an Asian female Dr who is good looking. Man, I got one! My Urologist is totally HOT! But you know, and I was just thinking about this after watching your video and those other clinical ones that purport to show actual lab rooms where cystoscopy are being done. Even IF this totally beautiful Asian female Urologist WILL be the one holding onto my "thing", while she is sticking in that HUGE instrument, I don't think even her holding onto me, is going to make it any better! But I Am going to watch your part two video or update video, to see what your update is. Thanks very much for posting this video. I think it was the most helpful and I am going to schedule my own cystoscopy next week. Heaven help me.....

I had mine a few months, and I was very nervous in the appointment prior, I told my doctor that the hole in my pecker was too small, so he asked me to pull it out. I did, and he said “yeah, it will fit”. I told him I get creeped out even thinking about it, so he gave me an Rx for three lorazapams. Said try 1 some weekend when I was just hanging around to see how it affects me. Then take 1 an hour before the procedure, and if I think I need more, take the second one, which I did. Lorazapam is a relaxer, not a pain killer. I had the procedure, and it really wasn’t too bad. It was uncomfortable for a few seconds here and there, but all in all, I was over-reacting. When I get my kidney replaced, they will be shoving all sorts of stuff up there, but I just hope it is no worse than this procedure.

@@Brian-xu9di Hey man, thanks for this additional input of your own experience. I had never even heard of a cystoscopy before! But as for me, my urologist wanted me to try one last medication which is alfuzosin 10mg. I really didn't want to try another one, but I did, and i am SO glad I did! it works like a charm, and now, well, let's just say I can "put out forest fires" now, whereas before, if there had been a burning cigarette butt in front of me at my feet, I would be hard pressed to be able to put it out! So for me, I am saved for now, from having to do the cystoscopy that it appeared that I was destined to have to do! Thanks for the information though, it was very helpful and informative!

I don't think it took one minute and he was done. I literally talked out loud which took my mind off the procedure. It just feels weird but it did not hurt and no after effects. On my first trip to the men's room shortly after, I had one little speck of blood and no more. I will add that two weeks prior to this, I had a urodynamics test. @DavidCrossman-n8m3 ай бұрын
Maybe my experiences are different as I live in England where we have a national health service and these sort of procedures are done in hospitals by specialist urology doctors. As I am older and have an enlarged prostate I have had about 8 flexible cystoscopies over the last 10 years. None of which have been painful. I will give you that they are uncomfortable, but painful no. I have had 3 in the last 6 months because I had a really nasty UTI in May this year which put me in hospital and yesterday I had a rigid cystoscopy under a general anaesthetic as a day surgery in my local hospital. This is because the flexible cystoscopies identified a suspect red patch on my bladder wall which they wanted to biopsy to check whether it was cancerous. This is why they are important. Everything said in the video is correct. Yes they do pump gel down your urethra, but mine was only a small plastic syringe. Yes you can feel it as it is pushed through your sphincter, but the more relaxed you are the less you feel it. Yes they do pump water into your bladder to fill it up otherwise the camera can’t see around in there. Yes it’s cold because it is sterile and is refrigerated to keep it sterile. If you watch on the screen you can even see that there is a bubble which floats to the top of your bladder so they know which way is up. Yes it does sting for a while when you pee afterwards. Pain is relative and a flexible cystoscopy, in my opinion, is briefly about a 0.5 or less out of 10 on the pain scale. HOWEVER, prostate cancer and bladder cancer are BIG KILLERS in the male population. So my advice on all this is don’t hesitate to have a cystoscopy of either type if you are told you need one. If you wimp out it may ultimately kill you !

I sure wish I had my bladder checked when I was younger. Apprecieate your video and candidness about the procedure. I'm a 66 yr old male and started peeing blood and even a few clots came out or got stuck for a little while. So I decide to go to my primary Dr. who confirms the blood in urine and sends me for a CT scan with and without the dye. Turns out I got a 4cm x 3cm growth inside my bladder. Now I'm with a Urologist thats going to do the deed. Which is basically what you had except it's a scope and scrape. Then they put "medicine" chemo in for a few days that I have a catheter in there, to kill any cancer cells floating around that they undoubtably missed. Hopefully it goes well. They grow like a mushroom from the wall of the bladder and they cut or scrape it off with a wire loop that has current going through it. I can't wait...Let you know how it goes. It's on 1/11/24.

Piece of cake, anxiety before is worse than the actual procedure if this is your first time. A little discomfort, but definitely something you want done and don’t delay because you are scared. Lidocaine gel dumbs your urethra up. Like someone said teeth cleaning is worse.

Had mine 2 days ago lol. I was on the verge of leaving the chair after i saw the size of the camera that was going in. 😐 The worst part for me was going over the prostate and thru the sphincter. It was literally a second of pain and that was about it thankfully. It did sting with whatever the nurse injected before. I had horrible thoughts that it'd get stuck, cut my insides, get hard and theyd think i was some kind of freak. Just glad its over lol

I had one two days ago. Anxiety before hand was pretty high. Didn’t get any of the numbing gel. My question to anybody out there is how long does the pain last after when peeing??? I’m struggling every time I try to pee. It’s like I’m pissing hot sauce. How did you guys get through the post procedure hurdles?

I'm in a position where I sometimes cannot use the bathroom while I'm with patients myself. Thanks for the video and how soon was it until you felt "normal" again without burning? @@bigcee2148 So I had a CT scan which covered the upper urinary tract of kidneys and uretas and then a cystoscopy which checks bladder, prostate and urethra. That wasn’t particularly pleasant but obviously very necessary. I’d give it a 3 out of 10 for pain. Also had the finger as always had low psa in blood tests so never had a check. Everything was clear. No issues anywhere. They put it down to overdoing it in the gym. Recently tried blood flow restriction bands for extra pump and probably went too far. Big relief and learning curve. The NHS in UK was superb. All the best to anyone who goes through this.
