Take the magazine well off, you can actually see the spring and makes life a whole lot easier, I must say being a gunsmith for near on 40 years this segment was great and demonstrated why we gunsmiths do a 4 year apprenticeship, you are dead lucky not to have cracked or broken the alluminium trigger housing by the use of that oversized punch, this was a great video of what and how not to do this job and all because people want to save $50 which is what i charge to swap and set new springs, trust me the way you went about doing this job, you got off very lucky.

Mine did not go in easily, I put in a YoDave trigger spring this morning. I found the trigger pin extremely hard to push out, I bent a cheap 3/32" punch and had to use my hardened steel punch to remove the pin, I used the delrin plastic block provided in the kit and a piece of 1x2 wood to support the barrel/trigger. inspecting the pin before trying to reinstall, the pin was slightly mushroomed on both ends, I cleaned up one end only on the pin. I used a polishing wheel on a bench grinder and light sandpaper to "slowly" remove the burr on one end of the trigger retaining pin, when I got the pin to where it would slide fairly easily thru the trigger I went back and installed the trigger/ spring no problem, don't get a bigger hammer, take a few minutes and the reassembly will go smoothly

@@wowguy3562 Yep. I actually spun mine in a drill against a diamond file. After reinsertion, I applied clear nail polish over the head to help stop it moving out, but have seen some use sticky dots also, or replace the pin with a split ring retainer type.

I may do the same. I shot this morning to try out the trigger before a competition on Saturday. IO shot Eley Target and Eley Subsonic Hollow. I was very Impressed with the results with the Eley Target on the 5 round groups, The ARA target did not do so well but I think that is me and my need to improve how I hold my rifle. I hope to post the video tonight, getting ready to start editing it now.

@@AimSmallMissSmall_TV glad you are enjoying the rifle. Thankfully the 457 seems to shoot a lot of different good ammo well. It’s difficult to be ammo picky with the state the industry is currently in. I seem to do best with Lapua and SK ammo in the 457’s. I’m enjoying your videos 👍🏻.

Hey Bubba, Watch This! This has to be a 'Do Not Do it This way' video. By showing almost every possible wrong thing to do and everything that might go wrong, you might have created one of the best instructional video's for a CZ 457 DIY trigger upgrade for beginners. Made me glad I had invested in some basic Wheeler and Weaver gunsmithing tool sets. Pin out first effort. Tested the two common Mcmaster sourced springs before settling on the slightly heavier one. Just not ready for sub-pound pulls, yet. Thanks for having the courage to share!

I bought a CZ 457 MTR recently, I ordered the YoDave trigger spring but wanted to shoot the rifle first. I had the rifle hitting my 16" gong @ 300 yards on the first magazine, shot 3-5 were on target, it was amazing, I have an Area419 30 moa scope base and dialed 10 extra moa on my scope, the first shot landed low right about 12" off plate. The stock trigger felt really nice. I was lucky, my local gun store still had a stock 457 in stock this morning, I installed the YoDave lighter trigger spring this morning and took my gun into the gun shop to compare the stock vs modified trigger pull. The stock 457 pulled an amazing 1lb 2oz on up to 1lb 6oz. My modified trigger pulled in the 8 oz range on average, never coming close to a pound trigger pull. I am looking forward to stretching out the cz a little bit further, I would like to put a coldshot 150 moa base and try 500-600 yards.

yes, it is very important to first of all do not put the figure on the trigger until you are ready to destroy something. A spot on comment. As stated the trigger pin in your drill needs a short length taper so use some 220-400 grit sandpaper and spin via your drill in this medium with lube. Don't overdue it. Trial and error using the trigger and trigger housing to just easily let the pin slide in the first hole and trigger.

The 457 MTR was brand new, and first magazine thru the rifle was at my 16" gong at 300 yards, I have an area419 30 moa base too, I dialed an extra 10 moa on scope and was less than a foot off plate @300yrds. Shot #2 was about 4" off plate, shot 3, 4 and 5 were on target, honestly id be lucky to be 12" off sighting in at 50 yards much less 300. Needless to say I had the best day ever shooting my 22's. @@AimSmallMissSmall_TV I'm glad to see you didn't take offense and jump to being defensive. Two points; first it appears you could use a little more general mechanic experience. Simple things like hammering on the backside of an allen wrench, then using a screw driver and nail as punch are things that you should better than to do before wrenching on a firearm. I understand that you finally moved on to an actual punch but working on firearms is much too dangerous and costly (I almost cried when you ball pen hammer almost glanced off of the allen and hit your receiver or scope) if you don't already have at least a moderate level of experience. With general mechanic experience you would have also known that the hole in the trigger was to small for the punch that got wedged. As soon as saw some resistance you would have known to find the right size punch or modified the punch to work correctly. Second, as you mentioned, get the right tools. Use leather or plastic mallet when hammering on the punches or at least a smaller ball pen hammer. Get some decent punches. Visit Brownell's, they have quality tools in my experience.
@AimSmallMissSmall_TV
@AimSmallMissSmall_TV 3 жыл бұрын
Okay I know hammering on the back of an allen wrench was a bad idea but I had no idea how tight that pin was going to be. Definitely a lesson learned. I'll check out Brownell's. I will say my list of standard tools for gun owners is increasing. Maybe one day I'll have the tools I need and will do a video on tool and light gun smithing or something. Don't be alarmed when I refer to me doing gunsmithing but I can think of a better description right this moment. Thanks again I enjoyed your feedback and I take it as encouragement believe it or not.

@@AimSmallMissSmall_TV Discovered another gotcha: the bolt release button (to remove the bolt) is held in by an axle-pin, and carries a small spring in a socket. It was painful to do but I did it and learn a few lesions along the way. My second video installing the YoDave spring on a CZ457VPT went very well. Thanks for the comment

Perhaps gunsmithing is not you calling. You ruined that pin hole.

The title should read how not to install a yo Dave trigger spring. You butchered that job really well

You have a valid point but I did learn from my mistakes and hopefully folks will not repeat my mistakes.

Use a bigger hammer, just kidding, please get some quality harden punches. You stretched the hole to be larger by using the wrong sized tool. To be honest, this was painful to watch knowing what an awesome rifle the 457 is. Never force parts or tools, you will make a mess of things.

I did get some new punches and they are GREAT and I feel like a pro now. Thanks and good advise.

Good question, I show the good, bad and ugly. Hoping folks could learn what to do and what not to do. The Spring for installed and had been working beautifully,
