I just made the connection that the screw in the trigger that would adjust pretravel is for use with the Cajun Gun Works reach reduction kit. I could not have it installed or the double action would not reset. I did not install the reach reduction kit. Had I installed that kit, it would have moved the reset of the double action back (towards the rear) about 5mm. Then that pretravel adjustment screw could be installed and adjusted to accommodate this.

Good to know. I don’t have a CZ yet. Like what you have there. Wish I could recommend a holster. Saw a good one the other day online. Had same light and another point of retention. Black something. It’s one that keeps coming up in articles ect. a bunch of special forces type guys like it & I think it was on a sig forum. Had the hump/cam thing built into the muzzle end to rotate it in some..top shelf. Lots of fine tuning & adjusting possibilities. Mono block comes on it. I might try one. Saved your video for future reference. The optic,ever seen/ heard /know anything about putting the irons in front of the optic? I don’t have any of those either. A couple more things but late & that is enough for now. Hope you can find the holster. Black ops tactical.?? I’ll check later & see if I made a note. Take it easy.

confused, I was told by tier one they did not make a holster for my omega PO1, I wonder if it was because I do not have a light on it? You would think they would have mentioned that! I've heard nothing but excellent reports on their holster
@EngineersArmory10 ай бұрын
@@jerrymayo4571 I am 99% sure any holster that fits the P-01 will fit the P-01 omega. They are the same gun with the same external profile and dimensions (dustcover, rail, trigger guard, slide, etc). The only difference is the trigger system and internals. Externally, the only difference is the trigger shoe and the safety/decocker. Possibly the side of the holster that goes against your body (sweat guard side) would fit differently around the decocker/safety lever of the omega. I just looked at my Tier1 holster and it has a larger relief area around the decocker lever so I am sure that particular one (axis slim model) would work. Possibly you were talking to a representative at Tier1 that didn't know the details of the CZ pistols. Hope this helps!

I rented a P-01 at a local range today. TL; DR: I'm buying one. As a former LEO and LE Armorer, I appreciate your approach to the modifications. One thing I respectfully disagree on is breaking the shoulder of the slide lock pin. I know what you said about barely being able to push it out with your thumb, but if that's part of the retention (it isn't on a 1911) I wouldn't mess with it. There's no need for a rapid field strip. I don't put lights on my pistols. For most of my life, dealing with threats under low light conditions was just another day (night) at the office. Ambient light doesn't have a marketing budget, but it still works. I can't think of an instance, even when I was actively hunting some malefactor in a pitch dark place, when I wanted the light on the gun. I can see the argument for one in a home defense situation, though I still mostly disagree, but not for EDC: most of the rationalizations I've seen and heard range from -fanciful- highly theoretical to downright dangerous. OTOH, though I've only recently started experimenting with pistol optics, I do find value in them. Gabe Suarez explains here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZirZayjar2JbcUsi=edFtPfVsJUni4Bo2 I'm also experimenting with appendix carry.
@EngineersArmoryАй бұрын
I appreciate the respectful disagreement. You make a good point: its like that in the original design for a reason. No I don't need to rapidly strip my pistols. My reason for breaking that edge and making it so I can just barely push it out with one finger is that it make my like a little easier haha. I take my guns apart a lot (always tinkering). I own a lot of CZ pistols, and the retention of that pin varies from the factory between "smack it out with a magazine basepad or nylon mallet" to "push it out pretty easily with one finger." So my modification puts it somewhere in the middle of the range of what I have seen from factory CZ pistols. Also, like the 1911 (that has no active pin retention), The slide has to be in a very specific location for it to come all the way out. I appreciate you sharing you experience with weapon lights as LE. I totally agree that for civilian use light are pretty superfluous. The marketing teams got us good one that one. I think they are cool, they add weight to a pistol in a way that reduces muzzle flip. Thats enough for me. The only time they could actually be used is pretty much a SHTF/"without rule of law" situation - the use of a weapon mounted light for any normal civilian is at best a LARPing fantasy (in my opinion). Maybe a good use case for hunting? I don't know. I dont hunt. maybe home defense? Still a bad idea. You hear a bump in the night, it ends up being your kid who got out of bed to pee? Now you committed a felony and pointed a gun at your kids face - dick move. Just grab a gun and a SERPARATE flashlight. As a civilian, if you point a gun at anyone, thats a felony. Cops and military have a pass to do that. As a civilian, if you point a gun at someone you better be actively about to kill them. They better be that big of an iminent threat they that need to be dead, or you're going to be dead. You point your pistol at them to use the light for "positive identification?" Felony. a hand held light is the best option. you can PID someone without commiting a felony haha. I love red dots. They are ubiquitous for a reason. Join the club buddy! Thanks for watching, and commenting to share your experience. I always like hearing it.

People always act like I'm crazy when I say the light doesn't make sense. It makes you an easily anticipated target in the dark, like a bright bullseye and ruins your night vision. Especially in a home invasion you want to ambush them not get in a gunfight.

Well done! I just Cajunized my new P-01 and changed back to the OEM trigger return spring for the same reason, but did use the 11.5# hammer spring as it's not a CCW. Also shortened my CGW trigger ~1/8" making it even more comfortable for my trigger finger. After realizing and confirming with a CGW Gunsmith (Daniel, I think?) who verified safe operation and called me back to thank me as he didn't know about the following either. I did install the pre-travel set screw as doing so renders the trigger inoperable (with the hammer fully down). It adds an additional pre-cock position... 1/8" cocked is no pre-travel as it's directly touching the wall, 1/4" cocked position gives ~3/16" of pre-travel. CGW let me Cajunize my recent RAMI for free as a thanks! Did my P-07 awhile ago.

Great video, I do own a CZ-75 P01 Omega, a CZ-75 Compact, and a CZ-75BD. What are your thoughts on the steel guide rod for the p01? So many people online say it’s bad for the alloy frame but I can’t imagine that actually being the case.
@EngineersArmoryАй бұрын
No issues with mine, I prefer steel guide rods to plastic ones in every case. Dont see the logic to the argument that its bad for the frame. The guide rod is relatively stationary at the base end in the frame. The slide is a heavy chunk of steel that smacks into the aluminum frame every time you shoot it and thats fine. Why would a steel guide rod that doesnt move much and doesnt weigh much cause any issues? There are also lots of aluminum frame factory guns with steel guide rods. Hell, a lot of steel guide rods are in polymer frame pistols, and they butt up against the polymer, not even a metal insert.

Even with the heavy block spring it was barely hitting 3 and even then it had no wall, just spring resistance then it would break. The cz comp hammer reduces the distance just slightly to make the gap between the hammer and the slide at half cock seamless at the angle which looks a million times better cosmetically and gave it a much needed defined wall.

Its a light gun due to the aluminum frame. Not much heavier than a Glock 19. Similar recoil to that. A bit more snappy though due to the aluminum frame. Polymer frames slightly distort when shooting making them feel a little softer. The aluminum has no give in your hand so it feels a bit more abrupt. Its still easy to control and comfortable to shoot for me.

Thank you for the video. I’m happy with the trigger on my CZ75 SP01, what I’m not happy with is the fact that to rack it it’s very heavy, any tip for making it easier to rack it?
@EngineersArmory7 ай бұрын
Since the CZ slides are internal to the frame rails, there is just less slide there to grab on to which makes it harder. Before pulling the slide back you can manually cock the hammer, that way you're not fighting the main spring as well. Other than that, recoil spring changes could help but you want to be careful with that based on what type of ammo you're generally shooting. The gun from the factory is likely a little oversprung because they want it to be safe for all ammo types, and I would recommend keeping it that way unless you've made changes to the gun that necessitate recoil spring changes like adding or removing significant weight from the slide, or adding a compensator or barrel porting.

Thanks for the video and detailed information. What do you think of a ported barrel and slide for the P01 or 75B? I noticed you had very little muzzle flip with your grip and control.
@EngineersArmory8 ай бұрын
I dont have any experience with porting. But lots of experience with compensators. They can reduce muzzle flip for sure. I dont think ports or comps are a necessary upgrade but they can help. If you want to squeeze the most performance out of your pistol. Ports are cool because you dont need to add a threaded barrel or add length to the muzzle. But ports reduce the velocity of the bullet. It's all tradeoffs. The P01 is a little snappy due to the light aluminum frame. I am actually considering porting a few barrels myself (I have access to a mill and machining experience) and the P01 is on the list. So maybe stay tuned for a video on porting.

A budget Shadow 2 Compact is not far off. In my opinion the P-01 is better for defensive purposes as it has a decocker and firing pin safety block. The trigger on the Shadow 2 compact will be better whether you keep it factory or upgrade it. And I only paid $500 for this then put about $300 in upgrades which is half of what the Shadow 2 Compact is selling for right now.

Yes this is a lot of work, but this is what I do for fun. And i am aware this is deep into trigger snob territory haha. The factory trigger on this gun is pretty dang good. What I did to it reduced DA pull weight and smoothed it out. It reduces single action pull weight. It reduced creep in the single action, making the break more crisp, reduced over-travel and the reset distance. The trigger is a nicer profile now and included that overtravel adjustment.

I've had the standard size CZ 75 for over twenty five years. One of the best guns I've ever owned. Didn't do any extra work to it. Haven't had any problems with it at all and it's an accurate firearm. I'm considering getting this model. Is it fine out of the box, or is it necessary to make all these upgrades for it to function properly? That's something that would make me reconsider buying it.
@Catgat37 Жыл бұрын
I have owned quite a few CZ75 variants. They all functioned "properly" without needing additional parts. I have heard so many stories about firing pin retaining pins being a problem, but so many other things saying that it is only a problem if you dry fire without proper protection measures.....I just don't know about all that anymore 🤷♂️. I would say if you are absolutely dead set on a compact option for carry purposes, this is a good option.....as well as the P07, or if you have the money, the shadow 2 compact is a thing now.

If you're going to get a P01, you better send it in for some work. Too many have issues. Hard truth.
@EngineersArmory Жыл бұрын
What issues? I have only heard of some issues with the Omega variant.
@watchingthecrazyworld7761 Жыл бұрын
@dltz I bought mine new and have made no modifications. The first time I shot it, I had 10 handguns with me. So, I only shot the P01 about 30 times and with no issues. The 2nd time I shot it, I fired off about 50 rounds when the slide failed to return to Battery. This happened about every 3 or 4 rounds, so I gave up on the P01 that day ( I did not use any reloads ) I took the gun home and thoroughly cleaned it. The next time I shot with it I had the same problem but also had a new problem. The gun began to feed incorrectly and seemingly tried to double feed ammo. So now I had a slide not fully returning to Battery and a feed issue. I looked it up online and learned that there have been several reported issues of this occurring. However I have not seen a solid fix for it. One person documented sending it in for warranty work and waited several weeks to get the gun back from the manufacturer. And when he did get it back, the problem remained. So he sent it in again. But it sounds as if CZ was difficult to deal with. There are so many people who buy these guns and send them out for improvements it's impossible to tell how deep this issue is. I do know that the CZ P01 has been more or less endorsed by the U.N as it has become a U.N classified pistol. And indeed, that is impressive. However it is the 1st gun that I have ever purchased that came to me as untrustworthy. And I know from searching out issues that I am not the only one, not even close. I didn't have much luck in selling it, as I went with my friend and potential buyer to the shooting range. I explained to him the problem, and sure enough, he was able to witness the failures immediately. So recently I decided to keep it and I think I'll send it in to Cajun Gun Works and have it upgraded. But that's going to mean that I will have over $1100 in it. And I just think that for $1100, you can do better. I have spoken with other people online who have chosen not to carry the P01, but rather just use it as a range pistol. I am not ready to accept that as of yet.

What a wild extrapolation from the content of this video. Also, what will be the "best" concealed carry gun will vary from person to person. This is my favorite compact pistol (subjective) and I think it will be a great concealed carry option for ME (subjective). I have made no such claims in this video. Also the Xmacro/P365 is a completely different category of pistol and not directly comparable to compacts in my opinion. This is not a comparison of best carry pistols, nor a claim that this is the best concealed carry pistol, this is simply the work I have done to a specific gun to tailor it to my personal concealed carry needs (with some input about what works well for me thrown in).

About the same price (I paid $500 for this), 43X is 10 rounds out of the box - 15 rounds if you buy aftermarket magazines, shit trigger, terrible ergonomics and grip angle, shit sights. However, which carry gun is right for a given person is largely preference. I also put the 43X more in the micro-compact category with the P365, Hellcat, and M&P shield Plus, etc. A more direct Glock competitor to this would be the 19 or 26.
