This was nice. I hear this type of conversation often and I get by through the context. In other words, I know what to do, such as tap my card when they say to me "mužete přiložit", but I never actually knew the words they were saying. 😊

Thanks! It is very practical. :) How about short conversation with a child about inviting them to play?

🙏🏼 I'm confused with ja bych se dal.. the verb dat is to give? But here it means have?
@MrGuitarMR
@MrGuitarMR Ай бұрын
I understand it as a form of "dat si", but in subjunctive. Something like "I would like (someone) gives me..."
@CzechbyZuzka
@CzechbyZuzka Ай бұрын
Correct, "dát" means to give. However, as @MrGuitarMR said, the verb is: "dát si," meaning to have/get/order, literally: to give to yourself (food&drink when ordering). So when you order, you typically use it in the future: _Dám si kávu / Já si dám kávu,_ - I'll have/get a coffee or in the conditional form: _Dal(a) bych si... / Já bych si dal(a)..._ - I would like... (but literally: I would give to myself...)

Re "Jaký je v tom rozdíl?" In English, we'd simply say "What's the difference?", as the on-screen translation correctly has it. Is the "v tom" phrase necessary or normal in that context?
@CzechbyZuzka
@CzechbyZuzka Ай бұрын
@holesinroof I was expecting someone would ask about that! Thanks for the question, it will be helpful for others too. In Czech, if we want to ask "What's the difference," we have these options: 1) _Jaký je v tom rozdíl?_ (lit. What's the difference in that?) or 2) _Jaký je mezi tím rozdíl?_ (lit. What's the difference between that?) This option is used when we ask about specific objects, just like in English, e.g.: _Jaký je rozdíl mezi jednorázovým a vratným kelímkem?)_ It is incorrect to use the first phrase: xx _Jaký je rozdíl v jednorázovém a vratném kelímku?_ xx _Jaký je rozdíl?_ is not correct as it's not complete, or at least it doesn't sound right to me.

@@CzechbyZuzkaThanks for the very helpful explanation! And since, in the dialogue, we're asking about the difference between two things, I'm curious why the pronoun is singular and not "... mezí těmi rozdíl" or "... v těch rozdíl".
