Regarding intelligence being used in a more universal way, Pathfinder 2E does this nicely imo. A higher intelligence gives you more skill proficiences and languages. In that game being proficient gives you a much larger bonus, so that makes it even more useful.

That's a clever way to reward more intelligent characters that makes total sense.

This has got to be the coolest fighter class. This was a great podcast! You guys are fun to listen to, after playing a bloodhunter which I enjoy, I really want to try this class

I know this is a long shot, but I hope the introduction of Psionic classes means we eventually get 5e Dark Sun. It’s especially relevant considering the upcoming Dune movie.

I want 5e Darksun so bad. I have been thinking about how they could run deflilers and preservers in this system. I think a few adjustments and you could make a smooth 5e Darksun.

So I played this for the first time. Me and the party was fighting an undead knight with an undead horse. The rogue killed the undead horse twice after he dropped it the 2nd time I used psi movement to drop the body of said undead horse onto the knight. It was glorious.

Great video, guys. This came out first thing Monday morning in the UK: the perfect accompaniment to the start to the week! Totally agree with your take on Intelligence and wish it was used more in 5e. Glad this subclass is based on that score. More generally, I like the idea of Intelligence being tied to your initiative; maybe in a combined average with your Dexterity to represent mental acuity and speed of thought along side your physical reactions. Also, great to see Brian still in the barber's chair from last week. Get yo money's worth!

Pathfinder 2e uses your Perception score as the bonus to initiative rolls, and certain classes can do things like use Int rather than Wis for Perception, or use a different skill like Survival or Insight as the basis of their initiative. It's a pretty cool initiative system imo, but I'm not sure how well it'd port over to 5e.

@@Eruvadhril That's really interesting, thanks! My D&D (and similar) knowledge is limited to just 5e: I'll try and dig out those rules and have a look. More generally, I like to swap skills and stats around for checks in my games but I don't think I'd use Perception for Initiative (though I can see it's relevance for sure) as Perception already has too much influence and would see players even more determined to get Proficiency/Expertise! I might homebrew Animal Handling as part of Initiative haha that skill always gets overlooked!

The Psi-Holder could have eye tentacles that are psychic constructs, plus it could have beams that replicate high level illusion/enchantment spells like dominate person, illusory dragon, etc.

This. The only downside is that you won't get telekinetic master if you want the psychic blades.

With Tasha’s and DragonLance, INT spells got a huge buff! That being said I am NOT a fan of this subclass, which sucks cuz i love the idea....if you would use INT instead of STR for attack and damage, hell yeah but the Str, Con AND Int pull is way too MAD

If I remember, 3.5edition; your intelligence modifier was how many bonus languages you got on top of common and racial. But barbarians were illiterate in 3.5. Lol

I used to play as a thri-kreen (yes even in Forgotten Realms) and loved roleplaying as a psychic bug warrior. Was so much fun, I had his psychic powers connected to the idea of a hive-mind of his people. Led to some interesting situations.
@HumanoidCableDreads3 жыл бұрын
At one point he lost his psi powers because his connection to the thri-kreen queen was severed due to interferance from another race of psychic bug people, and had to rely purely on his non-magic swords until he met the queen of the other bug race and she let him tune into and use their psychic network.
