I think that the Warforged could get better AC than the Barbarian Unarmored Defense. Barbarians have Light and Medium proficiency, so that means Darkwood or Composite. Darkwood gets 11+Dex+Prof (13+Dex at LV1) and Composite gets 13+Dex(2max)+Prof (16 at LV1) Not to mention shields. But the Class would be 10+Dex+Con, that could be betwix 12 min (+1 both) to 16 max (+3 to both) using the standard array and Racial bonuses.

I had a Combat Medic build that was Warforged Envoy Lore Bard 17/Life Cleric 1/Hexblade 2. Most fights I simultaneously tank with my 24 base AC, heal with my bonus action via Healing Spirit + Disciple, while using my action to Eldritch Blast/Booming Blade. If I’m hit (which is rare) I use my reaction to cast Shield/Absorb Elements or use Cutting Words. And if the going gets tough, I upcast Spirit Guardians, stand in the middle of combat while being nearly untouchable.

I just finished building a Warforged Light Domain Cleric that I’m really happy with. Their name is NEMO, which means “no one” or “nobody” in Latin, because they have no idea where, by whom, or for what purpose they were created. Many sections of their memory banks were manually locked, but as they level up they will slowly gain access to certain memories. They will eventually discover that their name is actually meant to be read backwards, OMEN, because their creator intended them to be an omen against the dangers of artificial intelligence. OMEN’s alignment will gradually shift from Lawful Good to Chaotic Evil. However, with the help of the rest of the party, OMEN will overcome their programmed nature and return to the benevolent NEMO.

Warforged Envoy Lore Bard named T00T. Hard to hit, tons of skills and expertise in thief's tools makes them a wonderful support character with a decent AC. Always has something he can throw his reaction at, be it a bardic to reduce the attack roll of an enemy or a counterspell. Hideous laughter, hypnotic pattern, healing word, and Dissonant Whispers to really mess with opponents. A great face, a fun character, who contributes to the party in a variety of ways.

Unearthed arcana seems way more balanced to me than the Eberron implementation. Like come on: base +1 con, agelessness, resilience, no need for sleep, and insane AC calculation. Then the envoy gets an extra skill language, and tool proficiency, and choose tool that is apart of your body to have expertise in, and oh yeah +1 to TWO STATS OF YOUR CHOICE. This is not to mention that you get to be a bad ass robot. What race has anything close to this?

I actually played this until I realized that I found playing in wildshaped form to be really boring (you can’t talk or cast spells) so I changed character to a peacock aarakocra wizard who believes he is a king, and won’t shut up about it. He was only king for six days before he was exiled from his kingdom, sent to the material plane, and not allowed to return, but he has a -2 to wisdom and can’t comprehend the idea that somebody wouldn’t like him, so he thinks it was a misunderstanding. He is a lot more interesting. He was exiled for adding a new day of the week and naming it after himself, among other things.

Haven't played one, but a friend of mine is playing a Juggernaut Cavalier, who can't speak but has an indicator lamp which shows us his mood (which is pretty funny). Luck was on his side and he rolled really good stats - I think a 17 on Con and a 16 on Strength- and took the feats sentinel and mounted combat. He was found by our Halfling Warlock and only obeys her commands and guards her as well as he can! Me, being the druid of the group, try to contribute a decent mount to the party as Giant Elk. The Halfling Hexblade Warlock also has mounted combat, so both on my back and off we go! Wasn't planned that way, but the combo is extremly powerful due to the feats any attack directed vs me can be redirected to the Warlock or Cavalier and a sentinel comes in handy as well as Unwavering Mark and Warding Maneuvre ... last session the Warlock casted Fly on me: so I was the Flying Elk - also known as Apache helicopter with deflecting missles and Lasers (Eldrich blast)- Our GM was blasted as well :D

I've got my first Warforged since 3rd Edition- a Warforged Envoy named Keinen that's a Archfey Pact of theTome Warlock- going right now. The party also has a Monster Slayer Ranger, a Bear Totem Barbarian, a Circle of the Shepherd Druid, and a Lore Bard. (The DM wanted us to build our characters keeping in mind there would be a "defender of nature" theme to the campaign.) We've been tasked by an elf lord from the Feywilds to eliminate a Necromancer that is trying to make anything he can into an undead slave. We've only gotten to 4th level so far, but it's been a LOT of fun! Keinen's backstory is that it used to be a not so nice human; he grew up on the streets in a bad city, having to kill and steal just to survive. While trying to get away from some town constables, Kainen flees town to hide in the woods. A very trickster-ish Archfey, Lord Alabaster, starts toying with him, leading him astray in the woods, teasing him with ghostly lights and sounds, etc. After a couple days, Alabaster decides to talk to Kainen; hearing Kainen's story he feels bad, so offers him a deal: Alabaster will free Kainen from all that crap, in return for five years of service. Kainen says yes, as it can't be any worse than his current life. Alabaster fulfills his side of the deal by removing Kainen's soul and putting it into an old Warforged body that's in some ruins deeper in the woods. Alabaster also removes the vast majority of Kainen's memory, aside from a few useful skills and his general knowledge. Alabaster then forms an arcane pact with Kainen, granting him powers to use in his service. Kainen spends five years doing various tasks that generally promote and support nature: teaching farmers how to carefully manage the land without abusing it, stopping people who over-hunt the forest, chasing out monsters, destroying undead, that sort of thing. The point where play started and it joined the party is a couple months after his five years of service are up. Kainen is a free person- the first time he's ever been truly free- with a clean slate in life and no goals, wandering the world just for the sake of seeing things and learning. ***EDIT: Forgot to put that he is Pact of the Tome. Took that for the invocation Book of Ancient Secrets- very helpful, letting you learn ritual spells from ANY class. Doesn't help in combat, but it really broadens the utility of your magic pool for any warlock! I'm hoping to convince the DM to let us pay for hirelings, so I can just hire people to teach me rituals and eventually learn ALL the ritual spells, lol.
@panpiper
@panpiper 5 жыл бұрын
I love the idea of Pact of the Tome warlock. Unfortunately my current GM is of the opinion that cantrips have no business being at will castable and has made a house rule that they use up a small number of cantrip spell slots. In my opinion that effectively neuters most spell casters and utterly guts warlock, so I am not playing warlocks any time soon. So sad.
@Nathan_Talisien
@Nathan_Talisien 5 жыл бұрын
@@panpiper Ugh. That sounds pretty fail. On the other hand, though... If you think it'd work- you know your DM better than me, obviously- maybe it's worth arguing that because he's nerfed the Warlock so hard in the spell department, it should get a few more Invocations to bring it back up to parity with the other classes. Getting, say, two more total Invocations over 20 levels by shortening the gap between when new ones are learned could be a MAJOR power buff if you made the right Invocation choices... You might try to convince your DM to house rule a few more spells to have the Ritual tag; even with a 1 minute casting time, utility spells like Prestidigitation, Mage Hand, Move Earth, Light, etc. could still be really useful if you're creative, and those are just cantrips- should be fairly easy to convince the DM. That would let *Book of Ancient Secrets* bring you a lot more bang for your buck. Other good Invocation choices that it seems to me like no one realizes the full scope of until they are used creatively: Ascendant Step Beast Speech Chronicle of the Raven Queen Eldritch Sight Fiendish Vigor Green Lord's Gift Mask of Many Faces Misty Image Seeker's Speech Shroud of Ulban Whispers of the Grave Some of those are UA, though, so you might need to convince the DM to allow them... :\

hi Dave and Ted me and my friends want to say thank you the wonderful ideas and Creations the both of you have created have really made our adventures more exciting and captivating hearing your ideas have opened up our imaginations to levels that we didn't know we had and now with your linked to Dungeons & Lasers it's really going to help our imaginations go much further so thank you and if I may ask you this question and this is for myself I have two weeks to get a character ready for my friends dungeon campaign and I've always wanted to play a Warforged character I was thinking about Juggernaut going into Tempest cleric because my friends always make me the Healer but I struggle with this idea on how to make a robot find and understand religion which I believe is necessary for the Tempest cleric and I completely understand if you don't have the time to help me but anyways me and my friends are really thankful and we wish you both all the best in your adventures

This video came at exactly the right moment. We are this very evening, about to start a new campaign being touted as a 'science fiction' campaign for those not in the know, but is in reality a Spelljammer campaign. After seeing this video, I have elected to go warforged. What is more appropriate for a "science fiction game" than for one character in the party to be a self aware 'robot'. I'm going to start with a level one splash into rogue, just so I can start with a good roster of skills. I'll take envoy as the warforged subclass and have built in thieves tools. From there I'll go fighter(brute)/barbarian(bear totem), so the group can have a truely hard to kill tank (high AC sword and board). Between the barbarian rage damage bonus, dueling fighting style and an extra damage die from brute, he should output decent damage. We roll for stats and mine came out nicely with four high stats, enough for this character to have a good charisma, so the two starting skill expertise will go for stealth and intimidation. Hopefully with a bit of decent roleplay, I'll be ok at taunting enemies to attack me rather than others. First feat will be Medium Armor Mastery. www.heroforge.com/load_config=5262327/ ddb.ac/characters/15424818/vtfor4

My first 5E character was a Warforged battlemaster. Named him after Alphonse Elric. I think I might be in a minority who don't consider the race as robots. Sure, they get programmed for a purpose, but I played mine like a mannequin brought to life and trying to find his place in the world. Not much difference, but subtle enough for me.

The envoy is sooooo flexible. You can play as basically any class with them. If your DM is lenient you can do alll kinda of stuff with the integrated tool. Thieves tools are hidden lock picks, vehicles are considered tools, a disguise kit could make you a terminator, with a smiths kit you can melt the bars of a cage or break a sword over your knee. God the stuff you can pull of is nuts.

Warforged Envoy Bard, College of Swords. AC becomes kind of ridiculous regardless of which armor option you use once you hit 14th level and can use the 1d6 damage and AC flourish every turn. I started with Paladin for heavy armor prof, dumped Dex, grabbed the Defender fighting style (technically not RAW legal, but DM greenlit it), went Sword Bard and grabbed TWF style and Dual Wielder feat. If memory serves, I ended up at AC 24 +1d6 every turn that I didn't use an inspiration to flourish.

cenauge Defensive fighting style is legal. The table about integrated armor has “armor” identifiers stipulating what is armored or unarmored.
@cenauge
@cenauge 5 жыл бұрын
@@binolombardi Not with the current wording. You are armored (for the purposes of abilities that only work when you are unarmored) but you are not wearing armor, and wearing armor is required in the rules as written. Though, now that I think about it, the answer was staring me in the face: just wear armor anyway. You get no benefit from it, but you are wearing armor and that's enough to make the style work.

Currently playing an Envoy Warforged commissioned by a wealthy church, and bonded with the spirit of a Celestial to create a Celestial Patron, Pact of the Tome Warlock bedecked in support-oriented spellcasting and skills. Another was intended as a gimmicky gaff character, a Juggernaut Bard, College of Swords whose singular focus is grappling enemies, and picking up and throwing objects weighing thousands of pounds. Just recently, he calmly dead-lifted a nearby fully loaded carriage and hovered it over the head of an enemy to encourage him to surrender, to which he complied. His compatriot, however, was on the receiving end of an "improvised weapon" of immense weight barreling towards him at incredible speed.

One good thing about Juggernaut Barbarians (as well as any Race that gets an augmented Unarmed Strike, or multiclassing Monk, or picking up Tavern Brawler, etc), allows a couple of Barbarian features to work on Unarmed Strikes, suboptimal compared to staple Barb weapons, but it allows Brutal Critical to do something as well as Rage bonus damage since that requires a damage *roll* but unaugmented Unarmed Strikes deal flat damage

Since I really want to do a campaign in Eberron I was considering doing as one of my character choices a Arcane Trickster Rouge Skirmisher Warforged with a Darkwood Core and it can work mostly due to the fact Warforged get a bonus to Constitution, and one Ability Point choice, and by doing Skirmisher Warforged with a Darkwood Core I get the +2 to Dexterity, ability to walk normal and be in stealth, enhanced base speed due to the +5 bonus, plus having a Darkwood Core means my Integrated Protection equals an AC total of 11 + Dex Modifier + my Proficiency Bonus when my character has integrated Light Armor into his/her body.

I've been playing an Unearthed Arcana Ranger, Warforged and hooooo boy. Gave him the Alert feat so... +5 to initiative with advantage on initiative roll thanks to ranger. Another +5 thanks to easy 20 dex because of race type. Can't be taken by surprise. Advantage on detecting stealthed enemies Eventually can hit enemies even if they are invisible without disadvantage. This and sharpshooter is pretty nice. On top of all that warforged remain conscious when they sleep? Yes please. Never filled a niche like this before and gotta say I'm liking it.

Been coming up with an Envoy named COS-P2.3, nicknamed Blackjack. He is mostly a wild magic sorcerer with his first level being a dip in to rouge as he was built to work with a covert operations task force. Magic Missile ended up being a no brainer for him. His thieves tools are integrated and also ended up with the alchemist proficiency. For his bonus skill I took perception cause let’s face it they probably built him to be particularly sensitive. When rolling him up I got 5 even numbers and 1 odd. I put the Con bonus in to the odd number and then I funneled the other two points in to charisma. Not cause he is a sorcerer and that 20 score is cool. I mean it is fucking fantastic but it’s not the point. It’s a reflection of his strongly rooted since of identity and assertion. He is a passionate guy and leads with his heart rather than his brain. His top stats ended up being 20 Charisma, 16 Dexterity, and 16 Wisdom. I had REALLY HIGH rolls for him. I got LUCKY. As you can imagine Blackjack was labeled a malfunctioning unit

I've been playing an Artificer (Archivist) Envoy and he's been a blast so far. Integrated Tinker's Tools with the Tools Required Artificer classfeat means I can't be fully disarmed unless I'm quite literally disarmed. The Expertise in the integrated tool is obviously wasted since you get Expertise in any Proficient tool anyway from the class, but other than that it's a pretty great fit.

I'm currently running a warforged juggernaut Zealot Barbarian named Victor for a level 20 one-shot. We were given a boon, an artifact, and a legendary magic item. The lore goes that Victor has gathered so much fame (Reigning champion of a gladiator-style to the death battle arena) and has himself become a magical artifact, making any negative hp (variant of massive damags rules IIRC) he has be set to 0 at the start of his turn. His boon removes the time limit on his rage. And his legendary magic item is a +3 silver axe that makes him immune to being charmed and gives him advantage on wisdom, intelligence, and charisma saving throws. Obviously this sounds ridiculous, so the way we balanced it is that if he dies (0 hp when not raging or being reduced to or below the negative of his max hp) then his body shatters but his core remains, ready to magically create a new body from the nearest materials after 1d4*100 years, effectively removing him from that campaign. If he's killed through a fair battle (DM determines if his battles are considered fair in this context) then his body is PERMANENTLY destroyed, never to be brought back outside of 20th level divine intervention or a wish spell with IMMENSE consequences. His artifact status is removed if he reforms and is forgotten about, and he has to gather notoriety again to get it back. I'm very excited to have him go full Doom Slayer against any enemy he meets!

If your DM is letting you play as a WGtE Warforged, you have a pretty chill DM. You could probably get away with using a Bit and Bridle to pull a Cart yourself. With Point Buy/Standard Array, you could pull (17*15*2*5)-400 or 2150 lbs in a wagon. You are now Optimus Prime. Transform and roll out!

As written, the current version simply specifies that plating counts as armor, not that it counts specifically as heavy or medium armor. So in this version, a warforged barbarian can rage while in the heavy plating mode… though they will have to acquire the heavy armor proficiency before they can use heavy plating.

Very cliche but I am playing a warforged juggernaut rune knight fighter. In a martial fight, he can TANK and dish out damage. Heavy armor master, sword and board, the hill rune for resistance, and giant size all make him a force to be reckoned with. Spells still hurt though, any time he is asked to make anything but a con saving throw or check, a single oily tear rolls down his metal face.

Hellforged- Envoy point buy, 8str, 12 dex, 14(16)con, 15(16)int, 14 wis, 8 charisma 1 level of order cleric heavy armor proficiency When casting 1st level spells or higher that affect allies, I choose one ally to make a reaction weapon attack. Access to 3 cleric cantrips, guidance, resistance, and thaumaturgy. 2-3 cleric 1st level spells prepared depending on wisdom mod, preferably spells that don’t require good wis. The rest of levels into war wizard. 2 wizard gets int to initiative and the ability to use reaction for 2 armor or 4 to any save. 6 wizard gives the ability to use surges. Casting the lingering effects of thaumaturgy and prestidigitation on an object, probably a lit lamp, let you get all surge charges for one 3rd level dispel slot. At 10th level you gain 2 AC and 2 to all saves while concentrating. This will be combat level 11. 16+(3prof)+(2shield armor)+(2concentration)= 23 AC static AC when concentrating. Reaction shield spell for another +5 when needed. Resistance cantrip actually becomes a viable option to compete with guidance, as both require concentration. Guidance can be used for initiative, resistance can be used for saves when walking around a dungeon. Using a reaction while concentrating on resistance would add up to 2+4+1d4 to any save. Nab alert feat, +5 initiative and never being surprised aid the war forged while conscious immensely since they aren’t unconscious when resting and always have armor on. If ambushed the war forged is always prepared.

My favorite Warforged Envoy build is The Combat Medic - Lore Bard 17/Life Cleric 1/Hexblade 2. You can access the strongest healing combo in the game with Disciple of Life + Healing Spirit, while having an amazing defense with 24 base AC (heavy armor integrated protection + shield) backed by the Shield spell and Cutting Words, and an at-will offensive suite of Eldritch Blast + Booming Blade covering both range and melee. Alternatively, Storm Sorcerer 17/Tempest Cleric 2/Hexblade 1 is a blaster build capable of probably the best AOE nova in the game with Chain Lightning + Destructive Wrath.
