My brother played a Gripli druid in my first ever Patfhinder campaign as DM. He gave up the poison in favor of the tongue attack with reach and used it predominately to heal party members who were in combat from a safe distance or attack with touch spells. He was mostly built as a blast caster but was also the party's only healer. That bonus to Wis helped out a lot!

@@Rookzer0 yup. I think that only happened once unfortunately, we had a min-maxed wereboar skinwalker bloodrager with a lucerne hammer who really stole the show in combat and made my life hell because I didn't know how to say no and she didn't know how to tell me what she wanted outside of the game, but we still managed to have fun and had some great characters in that game. We also had a very beta Gnoll alchemist who voluntarily gave up one of his eyes for a custom item I'd made that let him produce poisons for free but poisoned him at the same time, and a human Magus who was very straight laced and normal seeming but had the lusty soul of a bard.

My first DnD game, my friend/dm allowed me to a custom character, within reason. I was given this privilege because we would be playing at my house, and I would be providing drinks. I've always had a love for reptiles and amphibians. So I started looking for races that fit that description. I thought about doing a snake person, then a turtle person, and then finally I stumbled upon the Grippli. I knew right away this was it! I created a character named Ferlis(the party called me Fearless). Ferlis was basically a badass version of Kermit the frog. He was a rogue with a custom crossbow that had a drum barrel(semiautomatic). He looked like a 2 foot tall 8lb walking and talking blue and black poison dart frog. I could use my poison but only once a day. My Dm described his crossbow bolts to be like sharpened acupuncture needles. When traveling I would have to use my fellow companions as my mode of transportation. I don't think I mentioned it, but I did his voice like Kermit the frogs. Everytime I tried talking to a npc they would freak out, or loudly point out that I was a talking frog. I gave him a kind and intelligent speaking tone. However I made him oblivious to most workings of the world. Since grippli are kind of isolationist, I made him naive about a lot of things. The first boss we went against was a Bugbear and as level 1s most of my team got pretty beat up. Our paladin went toe to toe with it for a while. He eventually got beaten and then it turned its attention to my character. I hit with a good shot from my crossbow and then it started to charge towards me. I knew I didn't have time to reload, so I equipped my punching daggers I had. I okayed my next move with the dm, knowing one of my hits would be at disadvantage. I leaped towards the bugbears neck, with my punching daggers extended out. I missed with one but rolled a nat 20 with the other and stabbed it in the neck slicing it open as I threw myself around and landed perfectly behind the now dead Bugbear.

Here to place a very fun combination team for the comments from a campaign that to this day was my favorite of all time. I played a red grippli sorcerer that was paired with a warforged armorer artificer. I literally stuck to my bros back casting spells on the back while he layed the hits in, i was also his fuel source for a spray that was equivalent to pepperspray😊

My friend has a Humblewood campaign, where I play a grung Totem Barbarian with 3 levels of Devine soul sorcerer named Gl'eep. He can lift and carry over 2k lbs/1k kilos. He has a 60-gallon cast iron cauldron he uses as a backpack/bed/wreacking ball. He is extra dumb but innocent and doesn't know when he casts command or friends in social interactions. We also pulled the variant Poision detail from the Monster Manual for Gold grung poison, which can charm a target. Needless to say, he is an almost perfect agent of chaos, and I love him.

For the secreted poison- the poison is "always on". A Grippli should be able to apply their poison on their own weapons as an action. Seeing as how they have to run the blade edge of a weapon along their skin I figure the care it would take would make it an action. This means you can only attack w/poison every other round or more often with an extra attack Good poison damage on top of your melee damage with a chance they are poisoned until the end of your (or their) next turn would potentially make it worth it to essentially sit out a round. They have good movement by climbing so this might make them a bit more of a hit and run gorilla fighter which I think makes sense As far as a once-a-day action- once a day as an action, the Grippli can collect it's poison and place it in a vial. The amount is enough to coat 3 weapons or 30 ammunition. The poison breaks down and becomes inert within 3 days of being stored or one hour if it has been applied to a weapon If the poison is given to another race it takes them an action to apply it to a weapon. If a Grippli applies it to a weapon it only takes a bonus action, or potentially a "use an item" but I'm leaning towards a bonus action I like the idea of the Grippli's poison lasting 3 days. Once a day for three days at 3 doses per day means that if the Grippli has stockpiled the poison it could have 9 weapon coatings or 90 ammunition coatings. I don't think that is too much but it could be adjusted. They could never hold more 3 vials and 9 2d8 attacks every 3 days isnt particularly game breaking even if you used them all in one combat, and the action economy limits the amount of ammo used. If your feeling a little squishy about the ammo remove the chance of the poisoned condition from ammo. It's a smaller dose meaning they don't get poisoned but still take 1d8 poison damage No proficiency in heavy weapons. Preferably nothing over a d8 worth of weapon damage so the poison can be a d8. The potential for the poison condition should allow this mechanic to be relevant to players Depending on the class, the Grippli will probably either keep the vials itself to apply the poison as a bonus action or give it all away to boost the attacks of allies. It'll still be able to poison it's own weapons as an action either way I also like the idea of the Grippli having a habit of running it's blade along it chest. It looks menacing but they just have a habit of applying the poison from their skin every hour

I played a grung hexblade warlock/paladin. I used the variant poison feat as well and chose gold grung. I then took magic initiate because I needed to be able to create water, shape water, and move earth so I could submerge myself in water for an hour and not get exhaustion. I also got a warpick so I could break ground and move earth if it was solid.

i played a grippli summoner in pathfinder who was named Sir Ribble Ribbs-a-lot a few years back. He was a diplomacy loving romantic he sucked at fighting but that's what his eidolon was for.His eidolon was a female black panther named nimbus who dealt a crazy amount of damage. Ribble mainly would talk merchants prices down or flirt with women of any race. at one point he tried to flirt with two women at once and succeeded, one was a half elf the other a half orc. i forgot to mention he was a follower of Arshea, and he convinced those two to join his religion. so during some time skips he started to develop his own "Church" where he was the pope and people would pay to "pray" to Arshea. My Pope Pimp Frog was born. He was amazing and i miss playing him.

My second character is a 2-3ft tall Mogogol named Sprout. Their whole story is that they were the classic party pet that some adventurers picked up. They saw a whole adventure play out with a peaceful resolution and sought to be an adventurer just like them. And so they set out on their own adventurer to become a bard just as great and kind as the one that adopted the little frog. And all the adventurers that adopted Sprout are characters I already made or will make to tie their whole story together.

The poison mechanism for frogs and toads. Most frogs and toads have poison glands at the base of their neck they excrete a milky white fluid that is toxic to those creatures that eat it. Poison dart frogs eat poisonous prey to make their skin poisonous like a mucus layer or something like that. For the Poison gland variant I would set poison damage to a D8. To poison target they must either eat the poison or take damage from weapons that is poisoned. For the poison skin Variant I would set the poison damage to a D4 + any poison you consume added to your damage. I would limit this as the most poisonous thing you consume like a D6 extra poison damage for eating a d6 poison. And you are immune poison damage from things you eat. to poison a target they can either eat.. be hit by a weapon that is poisoned.. or touch the poisonous creature.
