Fun fact, the Gith races were introduced in the late 70s/early 80s based on a race from a pre-GOT novel by George R. R. Martin.😊 Right around the time I started playing D&D when my best friend got the original basic Red Box for his 12th birthday. I still remember the original sharp cornered dice that came with a white crayon to colour the numbers in lol

I had no idea they were inspired by George RR Martin. Nor did I know RR was popular back then.

@@TheSinisterheroes yeah was originally a homebrew entry by a fan of Martin's book for either Dragon or White Dwarf magazine that was then made official a couple of years later in the Fiend Folio. So much of the shape of the D&D we know today came out of those mags. The original 1E AD&D Unearthed Arcana contained a massive amount of submitted concepts. Hence why all the new playtest material is under the same header, an homage to that book and it's origins.

That’s really cool. As a company at that time, to just listen to the fans like that, and be open and take a risk like that, is remarkable. I don’t know of anyone who would let it ride on a fan entry.

@@TheSinisterheroes yeah but unfortunately somewhere along the way over the next decade, TSR lost sight of that fan interaction that contributed to the game's improvement and evolution. Instead of working with them, they started sueing at a record pace to the point where their legal division completely dwarfed the design department. Unsustainable legal battle after legal battle ensued resulting in bleeding the company almost dry until WotC bought them out. Going forward WotC knew this couldn't continue and that's when the OGL was constructed which resulted in D&D growing through a partnership with players and creators into the juggernaut it is now Apparently Hasbro is shortsighted enough or maybe just greedy enough to ignore this history when they tried to shove that joke of a revised OGL on everyone recently. All the revised OGL would've done was make them a quick buck in the short term while stagnating, if not outright destroying the game and profits long term. IMO there's 2 main factors at work... A) WotC is looking to lockdown and protect their Virtual Tabletop And B) Hasbro themselves only view WotC as the cash cow to make their movies. This is evidenced, to me at least, by how while WotC only accounts for around 40% of Hasbro's gross profits, they account for over 70% of their net profits. Those are insane numbers.

I can see hasbros point. If I made something and people used it and made a bunch of money off of it and I got nothing I’d be pissed. Problem is they played there hand wrong. They should have focused on other ways to make money off the product. The movie was a good start a series or just buy critical role and leave them in creative control

We have a githzerai soul knife rogue in our Saturday game. We found him in a cage to be sold until we freed him. We’re now looking for his ship and the dm has made a few hints of mind flayers enslaving his people.

It's actually pronounced "Gith-Yankee" not "Gith-Yankeye"
@TheSinisterheroes2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the correction. I very rarely hear it pronounced without people also saying the other interpretation.
