Great interview and well done for highlighting complacency with airport and airspace access .... if you don’t stand and fight for it, you will certainly lose it. Someone out there will always have another plan and from bitter experience here in the UK it usually excludes GA. Keep up the good work AVweb 👍

Just a slight comment here. I understand his opinion regarding the difference between flying in the US and in Europe but there are still big differences between countries in Europe. I know well France, and the freedom to fly in France is really good and there is a big community of aviators. As stated in the video the key is the community itself. If you do not fight for your freedom to fly you can be sure that it will disappear.

Rather pretty dump I would say. He is filming in a public space at a public event and claiming the fukin main road as "my shot". How should people know this random dude is producing some random YT video for a random YT channel. I just dont get what he is complaining about. Who does he think who he is? How about putting up a sign that video production is taking place instead of playing the annoyed grandpa standing there and grunting "YoU aRE iN mY ShoT"..wtf I'm surprised no one told him to shut his face and leave them alone..but probably those people just didnt make it in the final video ;)

General Av in Europe (especially the UK) is very elitist. Everything is geared to the wealthier aviators and those who can afford it. Very expensive and the fees/costs of GA in the UK are so ridiculously restrictive that you can't really think of anyway it can be accessible to the everyday person who just loves to fly.

@arthurambroise7894

They control the oil shutters, hence the « O » written on the them. As a comparison, the symmetrical levers on the right control the carburetor heat, hence the « C ».

Is the C47/DC3/Dakota the greatest plane ever built. If I make a list of the 100 greatest planes it`s a no brainer.She`s on it as she would be on everyone elses 100 greatest planes list.(unless they are nuts) Try 50 greates planes.Yep still there. 25? Still on it for me. 10 ,yes 5 ,.still on my list but getting difficult. If I had to pick one plane and justify it I think I would go for this. Anyone else?

AVweb Less prima donna and princess attitude and less douchebaggery would help for sure, that's what he mostly needs, expecting everyone there and their families to NOT have tunnel vision, stop enjoying themselves and wanting them to focus on other people(him) and whatever they're(he's) doing, in that relaxing scenario. Of course, it's his fault! For having too much clearance in the first place and expecting not to be photobombed and such. And then he gets pissed at people. Jesus f'ing Christ!

It's not about ga in America it's about driving the industry across Europe too using a redesigned American model... In Europe the model just does not work with the uk looking at development of ga facilties and crew licencing as national infrastructure to drive the ga aviation industry post EU UK including planning protections for ga aviation fields from development for non ga use

Aviation being such a luxury recreation activity, mostly reserved to the higher earning class, it is rather unfair that the poorer taxpayers pay for your cheap access to flight (FAA services, instrumentation...), while that same poor taxpayer dies from lack of health coverage and social protections. When everyone's basic needs are covered, sure let's look at some luxury items, but before we reach that state, it is a regressive tax on the poorer citizen, desperate for even the most basic support even whilst working multiple jobs...

I would love to get into flying, but it's prohibitively expensive and I'm not certain I'd pass the medical. In looking into it, I joined some forums and subscribed to some KZbin channels. I've observed that a lot (not all) of people that are into it seem to be kind of oblivious to problems outside of their immediate reality.

Exactly. I was thinking if Reid Hillview airport here in Silicon Valley closes, most people will not notice it (very very few will ever be able to afford getting into GA, or GA is simply not part of the local culture). In fact for many it will be beneficial that will allow more housing (maybe, it may all become housing for Google people and non-Google probably move from the area).

You have to look to the bigger picture and longer term. Most people at some point in their lives need to fly somewhere. The less accessible general aviation is, the fewer people will go into airline employment - and the more expensive and less available air travel becomes.
@MrPopples72843
@MrPopples72843 Жыл бұрын
@@wrightmfReid Hillview is a critical economic vein, SJC is not friendly to GA with all the commercial traffic. I have sat in the ramp at SJC for over an hour more than once waiting for a takeoff clearence. Also, you don’t take into account a massive chunk of GA traffic, poor bastards like me who have dreams of becoming commercial pilots. And how critical it is that we keep that pipeline open to maintain the number of airline pilots.
@wrightmf
@wrightmf Жыл бұрын
@@MrPopples72843 I guess I was quite harsh at first, there was a recent RHV Airport Community Day featuring free science and arts festival with up to 100 exhibitors with hands-on stuff to do. Perhaps what is needed is more of this. Of course not all elected officials support it but some definitely do. Thinking back even if Google were to buy up the place but most likely even worse. Living in a google company town not a good basis for a healthy community.
