D-Day 75th Anniversary commemoration.
21 (?) C47/C53/DC3 Dakotas departed Duxford for Normandy in France.
9 of them had parachutists on-board dressed in Authentic Allied Forces kit and using traditional round chutes.
They took around 10 minutes to drop their "sticks" circling around over head one of the original Drop Zones, "K" in this case, at Sannerville (just East of Caen).
Quite simply this was the most amazing experience, humbling and thought provoking .... those guys 75 years ago were dropping behind enemy lines to fight for our freedom in the early hours of 6th June 1944 .... ahead of the beach landings. To be in this field with Daks droning over head and men dropping all around, was an unforgettable and amazing experience.
Thanks to the organisers, the pilots, the troopers ....
but most of all, thank you to those that did this 75 years ago today!
