Really appreciate the effort you put in to replicating what we (the DIY guys) would experience painting in our garage, even though you have access to professional equipment and facilities. Really helps and gives me confidence to tackle my current project. Been watching your gun reviews too and think I'm going to go with the Devilbiss Finish Line. Too late to turn back now...already sanded the paint off the hood.

Your a professional and you take the time to teach us correctly. If I could just watch you work in person to learn this beautiful rewarding trade. Keep up the great work. I am surprised that you don’t have over a few hundred thousand subscribers. You will get there. Thanks man be blessed, be safe.

Where/how did you start? Im still messing around with rattle-cans just to see how paint responds to temps etc, and paint thickness. Looking into trying spray-painting but cant really find a good starting-point.

Bryan Eekelder Personally I just started getting stuff and working on my own vehicles. I just did my first paint job on my ‘07 Suzuki GS500F. Used a devilbiss FLG-670 Worked pretty well, a little more orange peel than what I wanted and a spot of trash in one on the plastics. But I think it will turn out great after a cut, buff, and polish. My advice is just try it out, talk to some friends and local shops see if anyone has an area for you to spray. Hell I did it in a diesel shop in the middle of nowhere with a temp booth I mad out of a welding skirting and some painters plastic. Lots of ways to go about it. Just try it out.

Gunny you have amazing talent and this series was awesome. From rattle cans to spray guns you can do it all and it does look amazing. Most backyard painters can relate to this series big time. I’ve only painted in a booth once and man is that a luxury IMO. As for a paint gauge yea I find them valuable when buying a car too detailing a car. There is a right way and a wrong way to offer advise however. I’m more of a Detailer than painter but can do both and you can take both to the Nth degree of micro detail. I traded a car recently at a dealership and they measured the clear on the trade as well as I did on the 3 year old car I was buying. Nothing wrong with knowing what you’re getting into. I’ve even had a mechanic do a once over on used car to make sure it was pretty solid. Every situation is different. For what this series was all about you were spot on and the car does look amazing. I agree door dings drive me crazy to more than anything else. Thanks for videoing the series.

Great video, best I've seen. I just bought a car in Perth and the pre-purchase inspection I bought automatically measured the paint thickness with a micrometer and told me which panels had been repainted. I still bought the car but I'm guessing these tools are being used more by professionals to measure paint thickness.

Hey Gunman, I painted the bonnet of my car over the weekend and got a bit of tight orange peel through the clear, not to worry, I rubbed it back with 1200, then 2000 & then 3000. Did a compound and polish and it looked sweet. I put the bonnet back on the car and it looks like the peel has come back after sitting in the sun for about an hour. What could have happened, shouldn’t the paint have cured enough. Used clear over base in black pearl

The Gunman Hello mate hope you're well. Just wanted to ask you something about that door I sprayed. I used clear coat...or clear laquer it's called....it wasn't a 2K clear...just a normal aerosol. When I had finished it completely...wet sanded and mirror finished...I was really happy with it. It stayed in my house for nearly a week before I could find the time to reassemble the door handle and other bits....anyway I eventually got to it and decided to lay it on some soft cushions covered with a soft sheet...painted side down...I thought that would be ok as it had been drying for a so long....but when I turned it back over it was covered in marks ...I couldn't believe it. Could you possibly tell me why it marked so easily? The clear was acrylic based... The only thing I can think of is that I had to use two different brands of clear....? Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks

Good stuff. I like like watching this sort of real-world garage stuff because it helps me understand what I might be up for and realistically what the results can be. It sounds like I don't have to go super expensive with the gear but I should make sure I get decent paint/polish? I might be able to find a better compressor second hand, and buffs second hand but was your gun/reg overkill or a big part of the result?

Hey gunman have you ever used bulldog on plastic bumper? Can you put bulldog in your base or clear?
@TheGunmanChannel

I'm pretty sure that stuff is an adhesion promoter like the 222S I used to use. It's good stuff if it is like 222S, but I must say I've never used bulldog, I would imagine you shouldn't mix with paint, it would be designed to spray down before the colour. Also I wouldn't use it over bare plastic parts, use a specific plastic adhesion promoter.

Arggghh!! Got a problem I'm hoping you might be able to help me with. Got my first 3 coats of colour coat on and was really pleased with the finish. There was a few dust spots, not surprising as I'm painting outside (under a tarpaulin stretched over a tent frame, but it's open at both ends) so I flatted the finish back with some 600 grit, then 800. I noticed some white pinhead sized white spots which I presumed was where the dust had been sanded off and it was primer showing through, so the next day I applied 2 more colour coats of colour. today, after 2 days of rain, there seems to be even more white spots, how can this be when the 2 final coats were applied over dry paint? When I try to touch them in, the paint doesn't cover them or leaves little pock marks. What do you think they are, is this the 'silicon' you talk about, whats causing it, and what can I do with them? TiA

The Gunman thanks ! It’s not sticking and when i sand area can’t feather edge and keeps getting wider. That is the damage area. I used BASF waterborne base and added flex agent to my clear. Originally i taped the blinker and had a gap between blinker and bumper so usually no worries pulling tape but this time pulled tape and everything came off with paint. The paint was really rubbery. Any help i appreciate, i know u probably need more information.

I understand that if the car was a show car . Or a military vehicle where it is necessary . But a rolla or daily user. Or if a person was a car entusiast buying a 100000 dollar vehicle. But it is jus a detailer who wants to pencil brush 1000 chips to take the eye off it. But hey gunner love your work much better than jus taking your eye off it

Here's something for you, have you ever painted a car part(rear wing)in acrylic and left it for about a week and then rubbed it down with 1500 paper and next afternoon it is all shiny again wtf.

Gunny the guys comment on the car being devalued because of the paint realy gets my blood to boil and its one of the reasons why the trade gets a bad name at the end of the day its just sales crap they knock you down on price when you try and part x a vehicle in to them because its been painted and then they boost the price when they sell a vehicle because they had to do the paint , we as technicians can appreciate someone who keeps there vehicle in good order and condition
