I'm going to do one early next yeat. ZC block, D17 crank, forged rods/pistons, 11.5:1CR and a small turbo

I would love to see the limits of the rods. D17 was that random honda engine that didnt make sense. It was there but no one touches them
@averyalexander23036 жыл бұрын
As for the limits of the D17 rods, really fucking low from my experience. The D17A1 that this car came with couldn't even handle a head swap and basic bolt on's without throwing a rod. I now have a JDM D17A engine in that car that I basically built as much as I could NA. It probably has around 150 HP at the crank. Hopefully that's not too much for this piece of shit engine.

@Lucky Rooster I don't think I had an oiling problem. And if it did, it must have been defective from the factory. I always used a good synthetic oil and oil filter and changed it early, it had the factory oil pump, and the bottom end was never touched.

Hey Chris, I am staying D series because of class rules. So I have researched a lot of this. What I think is dope is that you stay up to date on current topics, you cover a lot of the shit going on. Nice job dude!

So I know this is an older video but I have the reverse setup of what your saying. I have a 01 es1. 5 speed. D17a1 originally. I had spun the bearing 2 times and started digging around to see what I could change. I put the crank and rods from a d16 with p29 pistons. Going on 40k. Miles, have yet to have an issue. @ How many miles when it was done? Currently want to manual swap my d17a1 es1 and want to try this
@jacobwright22014 жыл бұрын
@@wackeryzachary8063 it was done at 230,xxx. Car now has 273,300. The hardest part about the swap is you have to find a crank timing cog made for a crank position sensor and customize it untell it dosnt go into limp mode(on stock ecu). Litterly go find a short block d16 with low miles for dirt cheap, your going to need. -Crank -Pistons -Rods -Rear main seal -Oil pump/the dipstick tube. (To plug the hole.and for future just in case you want more. (You can also put a z6 head on a d17 block but it takes some work.) -D16 bearing Custom timing cog(welder,file and Trial and error) That's all I believe it was but no mater what you do the head will still not flow for crap

Ive always wondered if a stroker build would be possible in the past. My old man had a civic with a d17 and i viewed that as a dead end motor for the most part. And if it the same cost and amount of work as a standard vitara build then it would be hard to justify unless you had a donor. Maybe find an old rust bucket with a bad trans for the same price as pulling one from a junkyard.

Would this information also apply with a b17 crank fitting into a b16 as well? Where you need to change rotating assembly pistons and rods? EDIT: And a b17 block? Lol

So I have a 95 Civic Coupe with a built high compression d16 z6 p29 Pistons rods Ferrara flat face valves stage 2 cam springs retainers skunk two intake manifold skunk2 throttle body among many many other things wanted to do an all motor d series because I enjoyed being the underdog anybody can build a b series or k series and make power but when I can pull on and piss off my buddies with their bolt on dual cams or random people with their dual cams and they never believe me it's a single cam until I pop the hood and they're like what the f*** I just got pulled on by a single cam I know it's not going to be the fastest motor but it's fun for autocross and the canyons and fun light to light eventually I'll build a k24 block K20 head but!!!!! To go with this video my buddy has a 95 Civic hatch with a d16 z6 that he did the 17 internals stroker kit and that thing with just the d17 internals intake headers exhaust chipped and tuned was pretty damn quick cost him less money than my all motor z6 and we both are pretty evenly matched I'll get them top end probably because of the few extra mods I have but we have both pissed off plenty of b series owners with these funny little single cams in his the only thing you see when you pop the hood is intake headers exhaust doesn't even have an aftermarket intake manifold throttle body or Cam just looks like a stock z6 when you look at it from the outside mine you can tell it's built but telling you these things can be nasty man it's crazy I get it it's not everybody's cup of tea to a lot of people it's a waste of money when you can build a dual Cam and get way more potential out of it but it's fun being the underdog sometimes and surprising people and doing something different than not everybody has

Its a lot of work for .5 liters of displacement. I think you hit the nail on the head, its only worth it for racers with class rules where they need to come up with every tiny edge possible.

@averyalexander23036 жыл бұрын
I've seen that before, although it's not at all common. I am sure that installing a D16 head on a D17 motor would not be an easy task for many reasons.
@VHBEngines6 жыл бұрын
Avery Alexander it seems not to be. But ppl have done it so josh ima look into it
@averyalexander23036 жыл бұрын
@@VHBEngines I have seen it like 3 times, so I know it's possible. Not sure that you'd gain anything though. I would love it if you make a video about your findings. A short list of potential problems that I can think of if you put a D16 head on a 7th gen would be: Possibly illegal to install a head that is older than the car Timing belt length Oil ports may not line up Potential head gasket incompatibility/mods might be needed Cam sensor incompatibility Manifold incompatibility (D16 header and intake manifold would need to be used) Coolant hose locations Timing belt covers may not line up correctly
