I’m not saying they can’t do it but if they can it’ll be a while before they even find a way for that to happen but in the meantime it’s proper procedure if you get brass in your clothing to put the gun down and then step away from the line before dealing with it so something like this doesn’t happen. Obviously people will say “it’s instinctive and there’s no time to think” which is true to an extent but first off, especially when handling a weapon, you need to be able to stay calm and collected enough to not lose your head and make conscious decisions but you should also have the muscle memory that as soon as you’re not pointing your gun at the target you put it on the bench it should get to the point that having it over your head or to the side or any weird orientation like that actually feels awkward and wrong

I'm sure it was an accident but it could have been prevented by a less careless mindset. 1) You keep your finger off the trigger when you're not firing. 2) You know casings might hit you when you fire so you should know better than to react like this. 3) Don't use the hand with a gun in it to do other things. I've had a hot casing or two hit me before but would never have used the hand holding a gun to try to brush off something burning on my body. That was incredibly reckless of him.

Hot brass down the neck is common in the military, and the instructors do an amazing job teaching our troops to manage the weapon before attending the wound. Many of us have brass scars because of this. This one story explains the importance of that important lesson. Bless the father that has to carry this event through his life.
@4touchdowns1game292 жыл бұрын
What blows my mind is that the dad had his finger on the trigger. The hot brass accidents remind me so much of people getting into accidents on the freeway when they swerve out of their Lane to avoid someone else. Recently up here in the Bay area which is full of moron drivers there was a woman who was told not to follow an impaired driver she was calling the police on lo and behold the woman decided for some reason to pull up next to the person and when said person swerved towards her she immediately need jerk reaction went to the other lane to avoid the car hitting another car and killing the occupants. An instances with hot brass or driving on the freeway and some things in your lane you just have to bite the bullet and either hit what's in your lane or take the pain.

@@4touchdowns1game29 Absolutely correct. I worked in a shooting range for years and saw people experience hot brass trapped against the skin countless times - never once did I see somebody try to grab the brass with the gun hand. I once personally (while in a shooting class) had brass bounce off the underside of the brim of my hat, over the top of my glasses, and directly onto the surface of my eye - and because I was laying on my back (supine shooting), it simply laid there. That was the absolute worst "brass burn" scenario possible and I still didn't clear the brass from my eye with my gun hand. Back in the 70's my adult neighbor took his son deer hunting. The father, his son and the father"s brother all went out together. A deer was spooked out of the brush and the father took a shot. Turns out his son had changed his position and was hit by the bullet, instantly killing him. The father directed his brother to run and get the truck and drive it back up the hill. When he returned the father was dead from a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. That was a terrible thing.

That's poor muzzle discipline. If you're firing a gun you should expect and be prepared for hot shell casings to land on you. They're not THAT hot. If you're going to freak out from a hot shell casing going down your shirt and lose that much control of your muzzle and trigger finger you have no business firing that weapon. That's irresponsible.
