I think to me august is much more deeper. The thing is I feel like she is stuck in that period or memories so that’s why she keep repeating that summer only. That’s why even Taylor repeat the bridge back to back and just change one line. Cause she doesn’t have anything else then just bedroom wine and a phone call. She wanted more but she couldn’t get and that’s why she is like okay it’s enough for me if James is with me. Also I love how Taylor gives us first Betty’s perspective. And then Augustine.and then James. If we have James perspective before people would’ve been hated Augustine so much. I think Taylor is very smart. She gave two girls perspective first. I really want music video of august. Where Augustine doing mundane things and keep falling back to one memories from summer where she was just 17. And in the fade out music I wannt to Betty and James living happy life and Augustine just there.

ooh, that's good. Thanks for posting that.... the order of the songs really does affect the listener's reception of the characters. In part 4 when I hear Betty, it all kind of comes together for me. It's cool!

It is so nice, that you are willing to listen to Taylor Swift for your daughter. But in the end, she is enriching your life, Taylor's music transcends all ages, races female and male. I don't think there is another artist that does that. I recently saw a video of a baby crying and stopped when the parents put his favorite Taylor Swift song on.

Mad Woman is about being manipulated and gaslit to me. As women we don’t get to be mad without being called crazy, this is a bigger song about our experience with anger

I wish women could get mad without being called crazy. This song is a legit commentary on that problem.

Always loved to see Jeff perspective on the music. The commentary at 24:38 was so lovely, sometimes we heard sad song and melancholic song as a form of therapy by channeling our emotion to said music, a place to vent without judgement and a place where we can relate to.

I love your take on the different sounds of Cardigan vs August, you're totally right! The seriousness tone of Cardigan with the contrast of the Dawson's Creek beachy sound of August really reflect what the two women are feeling .. they're both reminiscent but while Cardigan is telling the story with such conviction looking back, August is how we all sort of look back on our first loves - with a little sadness but also fondness and acceptance that it wasn't meant to last. Great interpretation!!

I completely agree with you about This Is Me Trying - sometimes to work through sadness you have to feel it and that’s hard to do or to explain but Taylor did a great job with that song

I think you are wrong about August herself, her whole heart was in the relationship. But James all the time did not have any real investment in it. August is not shallow at all, but James is. James did not really care that much about either girl/woman, he wasn't grown up, and just used August when he got jealous seeing Betty dance without him. Ugh..you stopped the song right when it's building to the best musical moment in the song!!!

When we recorded this, I felt like I had to pause every once in a while to keep the viewer more engaged, but I don't do that very much anymore. Sorry to pick a bad spot to pause! Sooo... in my defense, I'm trying to figure out what I think is going on after hearing only 2/3 of the trilogy for the first time. I'm not going to get it right, for sure. Thanks for watching!

@@MusicDadReacts thanks for responding, and I apologize for my comment sounding so judgemental. I think it's great you are listening to these with your daughter, and a first listen while trying to react for a video can't be easy. I did enjoy the dialogue you guys had and I hope you continue with Taylor and whatever other music and movies etc. helps give you guys common ground.

Another point to consider in the love triangle songs is that they are not all at the same time and age. Cardigan is Betty as a grown woman looking back on that teenage love, while August sounds to be still in younger years (in my mind is around 20s), while James is 17. ✌🏼

With mad woman, Scott Borchetta and her ex best friend got married, so that’s how I interpret “wanting me dead has really brought you two together”. It seems like it mentions different men specifically that have wronged her. And I also think of the all too well short film during the argument (once you watch that you can see) how he is like neglecting her feelings and calling her crazy. Ik that atw tmv came out after this but the relationship that her and Jake Gylenhall had was before. And I think of Kanye. There’s a lot in that song lol

Scott Borchetta absolutely did not marry her ex best friend? I think the line refers more to Kim and Kanye and/or Scooter Braun and his now ex-wife

I’ve always thought this was about Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun. It’s bleak because they were really horrible to her. She has a tumblr post when all the masters stuff went down that communicates her disgust. My Tears Richochet on evermore is the grief after the anger starts to subside. Thx for part 3. You’re a man of your word. 😊 Excited for part 4. I hope you dive into evermore soon. If you like the melancholy, I think you’ll be pleased. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

The male response to Mad Women… this song isn’t about a romantic relationship it’s about misogyny in our society and how women are expected to just take it and not respond.
