Hope you enjoyed Dad reacting one of The Roots's most classic tracks, "You Got Me" featuring Erykah Badu, Eve, and Jill Scott. Despite the fact that the song may seem like a straightforward detailing of a long distance relationship, the scope of it is in fact large as it makes Black Thought question what he values more in life: hip hop or relationships with others.

Funny thing about Bobby Caldwell, his first album covers, and many of them in general, never had a picture of him; and i heard it was because many folks thought he was black and people were loving his music so he didn't want to "come out" as white and possibly lose a bunch of fans/support/sales so he didn't lie or anything, but just didn't blatantly put his face or race on the album.

If people would just be open for it and listen to the actually art form, instead of a prejudiced POV. I grew up with Hip Hop since late 80's. The drumming at the end of the song is a similar pattern to what would more typically be found in the UK genre of drum and bass. Not only did moving to London help The Roots' fanbase grow, but also the diversity of their sound. OutKast used a similar drum pattern on 'Bombs Over Baghdad' a few years later.

This is their 4th album, their first with MCA, after Do You Want More? and Illadelph Halflife on Geffen Records, both of which saw moderate success. Yungbuck made a deep and profound assessment; I liked this reaction a lot. I'm from Philly; grew up with The Roots, and didn't see that deep into it. LOL Still gotta work on your homework, tho; the whole band--The Roots, are on Jimmy Fallon. Originally named, Organix; changing their name to: The Square Roots. Finally settling and shortening to the now known The Roots. Their 1st album is "Do You Want More" (1995); 2 albums prior to "Things Fall Apart". Never had lived in Europe, but had a profitable touring gig--beginning as Organix, through to their official first The Roots album. Anyway, overall a great reaction!

The Roots was an amazing addition to our music lives in London ❣️ so glad I saw them live and this particular song is always in my playlist. The mix of Quest, Eryka and Eve’s voices was genius!

Duuuude, this channel is dope. You should show your pops some classic Kanye, "Family Business" and "Heard 'em Say" come to mind, proper heart-string tuggers. I'd love a reaction to Jedi Mind Tricks, "I Who Have Nothing" and Nas "If I Ruled the World", I bet he'll appreciate the depth in JMT's song and the samples, Nas's lyrics and Lauryn Hill's vocals. Keep the reaction videos coming!

That's an interesting take on the "now she's in my world like hip hop." I always interpreted that as a sweet sentiment, as if it's him saying how much she means to him.

I’m enjoying these videos! Regarding the drumming at the end, like you mentioned The Roots moved to the U.K and we’re inspired by things at the time like the Jungle music scene where the beats are super fast. I think Bombs Over Baghdad by Outkast was inspired by the same scene too.
