I refused my youngest son for two years. I was only thinking of my finances and not how much he needed a best friend and companion. I was put on the spot one day and here we are about to celebrate his sweet Daisy’s 14th birthday. I have never been so happy to have been so wrong while also being ashamed at being so wrong. Every kid deserves a dog/pet.

You should not feel bad at all. So many don’t consider what is involved when adopting a pet and the poor pet winds up back at the shelter. When the time was right, you did what was right and wound up with your perfect pet. Well done!! 💞

Don't feel bad. You wanted to be responsible. Owning a dog can be expensive. Especially the trips to the vet. Most people don't even consider these costs because they only want to hold a cute puppy. I wish more people were like you. It would save us from stray animals.

Agree with the others! Don’t feel shame for being a responsible parent. Side benefit, by waiting for two years, you taught your son patience, persistence, and an understanding that you can’t always have what you want immediately. Great job, mom! ❤❤❤

I lost my dog of 18 years just this last year. Her name was "Stella," as well. Sometimes, you make that connection, and it can't be denied. Keep them close for as long as you got them, folks. It's not about how many years are in their lives. It's about how much life is in their years.

LOVE dogs - and cats, only ever had cats due to multiple reasons. Losing someone who has been with you for that long - I am so sorry, mate. My cat's 12,loving, and active, but we know it is a limited time, could be 3 months, could be 8 years I don't believe in god, but if you do, god bless you.

I rescued a small abandoned dog and the vet kept her while I searched for her owners or a new home. On line I went on my favorite message boards talking about how I couldn't have a dog, as I already hed two cats. Practically the first response was "So, what are you going to name her?" She became my first dog.

Wasn’t allowed pets as a child, and haven’t been without at least two dogs for all of my adult life (I’m in my late 50s). Judging from this video, these parents have figured out it’s not necessarily “for the child,” it’s to expand their family and enrich their lives… ALL of their lives. Good stuff!

I grew up with 2 dogs in the yard. As an adult its been 2 dogs where ever I am. Car rides, travel, inside, outside, hiking & patio time. Turn around they are right there. All good stuff :)

Stella is beautiful. you can clearly tell how much she is loved. I know that she and the cat will become good friends but it will take some time for them. ALL CHILDREN SHOULD GROW UP WITH A PET.

Thank goodness we lived out in the sticks. Didn't matter what a landlord thought since we owned the farm. We got another dog while our current dog was on its last legs. It helped with training since we got a dog to guard our sheep.

you've never gone window shopping? I actually approve of this method. It teaches patience. And that not all wants and desires are met instantly. That's a huge problem for a lot of people these days - instant gratification. That turned out well. Now we have practically everybody on one drug or another looking for that immediate reward. Glad to see how realistic the owners are about the cost of owning a pet. It’s ridiculously expensive and unfortunate that there’s not many veterinarians like Dr. Jeff in Colorado who gives pet owners a break when they love their pets but can’t afford to pay for the medical care they need. It’s heartbreaking to hear about pet owners having to euthanize them because they don’t have the resources.

I am very grateful to my parents for allowing us to have all the animals we wanted. I remember we had a dog, a cat and a parrot at the same time. We told mom what we wanted, she told dad and he said "okay". The dog loved dad more than anyone else, they did everything together - walked, ate, slept. I miss that time very much 🧡
