I'm on my 4th SDV8 Full Fat Rangie (7th Range Rover in total) - go and get it properly rolling road remapped (I only ever use DMS Automotive) and it will transform the car. You won't believe how quick 2.5 tonnes can shift! Fuel economy increased too which was a bonus. Definitely the way it should have come from the factory, 400hp and 750+ torque. My current one is the Euro 6 Autobiography so road tax is lower too, £395 I think. Epic cars!

There are rare moments when people admit they were wrong about something and revise their opinion. Thank you for this very honest statement. I would like to emphasize something else: this car is so much more than just a normal vehicle, and it starts right below the automatic selector lever. If you dare to venture off the roads, that's where the true calling of this absolute off-road vehicle begins to unfold. Thank you again from a loyal L322 driver who might decide to get a 405 one day, but then only LWB if the wifey has her way.😁👍🏻

Best thing you can do on the SDV8 is change the oil at 5-6000 miles. More so if you do a lot of short journeys, they don’t like short journeys as it causes a lot of incomplete DPF regens, which in turn means more oil dilution.

Two things to help with the theft anxiety - switch off keyless entry (a feature I’ve never really valued on my L405) and always double lock the doors when you leave it. I might curse it now, but I think the vast majority of thefts rely on keyless entry - get rid of that and it becomes a lot harder to nick (🤞🤞🤞). Doesn’t help with insurance 😢 but better than nowt!

@@sammyg805 Nope but that is a common misconception. Manufacturers set vehicle ecu’s according to the country there are to be sold in to meet emissions rules blah blah. This means that that very often those engines are NOT working efficiently and how they were initially designed to operate. Remapping does what it says on the tin, re-flashing the ecu and engine management systems to retrain them get the best out the unit wether that be power output, fuel economy, removing hesitation/lag/fuel starvation etc. In most cases the various stages of a remap will only benefit the whole picture, how the vehicle drives, performs and even the longevity and reliability of the vehicle as a whole. 😎

Switching is something you would enjoy. I switched to a 2014 L494 SDV8 Autobiography after a very long list of hot hatches and performance cars. I traded in my M2 for the Range Rover. No regrets so far. I would say it’s best is you are not afraid to get stuck in doing maintenance yourself. I’ve had to do the oil cooler gaskets since buying it. Also replaced both handbrake actuators as they were cracked and causing fault codes and the handbrake to stick on at the most awkward times. I also changed all fluids front to back when I got it bar coolant. Bad points, my rear differential has started to fail. Unfortunately not something I could tackle myself as the earlier cars the propshaft is threaded at the rear diff end and held to the pinion nut by a threaded retaining nut. Of course that needs a specialist tool that’s £300 alone. So financially it makes sense to get my local specialist to do it.

Love the fact you're in the throws a being converted😂, i had a 2015 sdv8 autobiography and i spent about £4500 in 2 years on maintenance which included a new oil cooler and front lower control arms both of which you're gonna end up doing soon. The rest was 6 services in 20k miles as too many short runs was messing up the oil, but the mrs loved it and the kids loved it and i couldn't imagine owning anything else now which is why we've just upgraded to a 2017 5.0 sc autobiography with all the options 😂

@dadcars honestly these cars aren't as scary as people make them out too be, find yourself a good independent specialist ( who frankly seem too know more than the jlr dealers) and you'll be no worse off than running a q7 or x5 both of which have there own issues. I'm like you, a massive petrol head with young kids and I want to let them learn the emotions we attach to the cool cars we own, they love seeing what nutty thing I buy next🤣🤣

I share your opinions on SUVs. However, the Range Rover, pre-dates the term SUV by decades. It's a proper, purpose built luxury offroader that has serious ability. It is not a jacked-up road car with an inflated body. It's ok to dislike SUVs but still like Range Rovers. I had a late 4.4TDV8 L322 and in many ways enjoyed owning that as a toy more than my C6 RS6. The RS6 is mental fast and sounds fantastic and I love it. But the Range Rover was just such a nice place to be and was so versatile. You need to get yourself a decent steering wheel lock - stoplok pro or disclock to reduce theft anxiety

@@dadcars the RS6 is fabulous. Superb and I love it. Only slight criticism is the ride is a bit firm and it does like a drink. Mind you, on a motorway run it can average 28mpg if you're careful on the loud pedal.

I’ve a v8 l405, my third rangie, i’ve had them for 12 years. My other car is a 911 turbo - sorry but v8 RRs are undisputed best all round cars, ever. If you know you know. Although the previous model was more fun - you had to really drive it, scandy flick it into bends, where as the l405 is more forgiving and car like, lost some majesty

As a car trader I’ve had many. Love them, but I have to say the X5M is good competition for them. Thing is though, because they handle so much better they make you want to drive faster which imo is the best thing about the range - you just want to relax. I normally drive everything flat out constantly, but range is the only car I don’t do that.

Great video Ben as usual. Left field question. I am looking to buy a forward facing car seat for my 2 year old grand daughter. It looks like your daughter was seated in a car seat with an integrated air bag, possibly a Cybex Anoris T2? I was just wondering if she was comfortable in the seat, and whether the research I am sure you undertook convinced you as to the value of air bag integrated seats? Many thanks.

There’s a lot of snobbery around SUV’s. I drive a model X (I’m sure there will be eye rolls at that) but it’s bloody brilliant. Rapid, very practical, no road tax or luxury car tax, £7.50 to fully charge and gets about 280-300 miles. Not sure I’d be getting Santa Fe or similar but fun can be had in the fast ones . If I was single I wouldn’t buy one but when you have kids and dogs they work. Also, no engine block to destroy my legs in event of a head on collision. And no, they don’t just randomly burst into flames.

Regarding the safety, do you think this perception of safety is just a perception or is it at the same level as an XC90? Thanks Ben
@waleso6508
@waleso6508 3 ай бұрын
As a owner of an XC90 who has driven a rangie a few times, the safety on XC90 is way better. Automatic breaking, active Cruise control etc. But the driving experience is where the RR excels. The xc90 feels too bland in comparison. The RR makes you enjoy driving in a commanding and unrivalled experience and even makes other suvs like x5, Gle look like miniature suvs when you are driving it. 😊
