Dagestan is located in the North Caucasus federal district. Its capital and largest city is Makhachkala, centrally located on the Caspian Sea coast in Eastern Europe, close to its border with Western Asia. Some of Dagestan’s famous athletes include:
Khabib Nurmagomedov (born 20 September 1988) is a Russian professional mixed martial artist. He is signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where he is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion. With 28 wins and no losses, he holds the longest active undefeated streak in MMA. As of 9 September 2020, he is #2 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.
Abdulrashid Sadulaev (born 9 May 1996 in Dagestan) is a freestyle wrestler of Avar descent. Sadulaev became the 2014 World Champion in the 86 kg class at age 18, and Olympic champion at age 20. He is now considered the best active wrestler in the world.
Zabit Magomedsharipov (born 1 March 1991) is a Russian mixed martial artist, currently competing in the featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As of July 30, 2020, he is #3 in the UFC featherweight rankings.

10:05 this is true, Im from Caucasus, Ingushetia... the age of 6 to 16, boys constantly fight on the street. But these are no brutal fights, as soon as one of the boys start crying the fight is stopped "you've lost crybaby, go home cry to mama!". Parents never complain if their son gets beaten in 1 on 1 fight. My uncles gave me horrible time constantly putting me up against one tough kid who did karate and mocking me every time I lost, untill i joined kickboxing and I kicked his ass. Such a relief ! 😂

Khabib is referring to the martial arts of war (sambo is used by the Russian military) designed for survival in combat situations. It serves to illustrate the climate and culture in which the Dagestan fighters are born and raised.

I'm a circassian woman and it makes me so happy to see my dagestani brothers be succesful against fighters from all across the globe. Also I thank Allah for giving us all Imam Shamil. We people of the Caucasus used to fight amongst ourselves as well but Imam Shamil knocked some sense into us all and even after so much time we can still look at one another as brothers and sisters. Everytime I see these young men it feels like I'm looking at my cousins or at my brother, such similar facial features, to me they are family especially since many of us circassian live in the diaspora, so all people of the North Caucasus we call 'Our people' at home. We are all connected through Islam. Elhamdulillah.

Why chechen and dagestan had war?

@@vatossureno we didn't have outright wars (though i would have to really look into history again) but a lot of smaller conflicts. That's just bound to happen when so many different people live in such close proximity. But I want to make clear that there is no bad blood left, not that I know of at least. Everytime we talk about Ingush or Chechen or Dagestan we talk about them like we talk about our own tribes, with respect and love. And considering how chechen students treated mee after learning i was circassian they too think about us like that. There were a lot of different opinions going on back then, a lot of struggles for power or simply disagreements about how to fight russia. We were all headstrong in our own right but what Imam Shamil did was unite us to fight together against those that brutally killed us and wanted us gone. But there havn't been real wars between us, battles yes. But elhamdulillah, that is past. And it hasn't left us hating each other.
