I had a medium, original model Nomad that I paddled for about 5 years until I broke it about 10 years ago. I just returned from an Ecuador kayaking trip where I again used the same boat. Recently, at home I've been padding a Scorch. Down in Ecuador, I found that the Nomad excelled in the steep, technical and often shallow rapids. It turned quickly, it slid easily over rocks. I also found that occasionally I wanted a little more speed than the Nomad would deliver, I missed the bow rocker of my Scorch that makes it nearly impossible to pencil in and once it got into a hole, it was very difficult to get out.

Excellent review. I have owned a 8.1/8.5/M and will get a Newmad S next spring. The combination of easy rolling, stability, great seating makes it a good boat for all levels.

I appreciate that tangent about colorado boating and big water vs rocky runs. I'm a Colorado boater planning on buying my first dagger this spring. Deciding between a nomad and a phantom. I don't own a displacement hull yet so probably getting the nomad.

The divots under the grab handles are for ease of securing a carabiner and to avoid a sharp bend in your rope when having to pull it out of a pin. Rehashing the name-from a marketing perspective you don't walk away from the name awareness created by one of the most successful designs in history. I'm amazed they didn't name the Axiom and Rewind RPM Gen 2 and RPM Gen 3.
@WadeHarrison4 жыл бұрын
I disagree about reuse of names I think you should let those awesome boats keep it and become legends not water it down with a possible bad boat

I had an 8.5 loved it, but it was a bit big for me. I would like to find a smaller version. Survival Tip: Bring along some Baby Bell Cheese. That is wrapped in that red wax cover. If you loose your drain plug. Eat the cheese. And use the Wax to plug your drain hole. 👍

Yeah try the nomad sm of the 8.5 felt big and dam what A tip with the cheese 😂 I got to try that and I love cheese

So Wade, you mention the creeks and lower volume rivers you find in most of the SE which is what I enjoy but with no pushy but a couple K volume rivers what would you recommend for downriver play? A know a fan favorite around here is the party braap. Examples local to me is the Catawba, lower Haw, and a bit bigger is the Ocoee…
@WadeHarrison7 ай бұрын
Down river play I like the firecracker 252 or hot whip 72

Agree on the thigh hooks. I would love to see Dagger change over to the WaveSport thigh hook design. So much simpler, better, angle adjustable, and no holes outside the cockpit.

Is it to protect the gate on your carabiners from being opened at the wrong time?

@@WadeHarrison If you say that's what it's for, then that's what it's for, but, anyone who use carabiners a lot know to expose the gate to the clear/opened area---up to the sky or out and away from a rock wall. I figured the divots were molded to fit Big Foot hands comfortably. :))
