This video is about setting up a standard Daikin BRC1E63 wall mounted controller with the standard field settings we would set when connected to a ducted (Australian ducted) unit. We set the fan to cycle with the thermostat and set the to sensor location for wall controller. We also show how to adjust the fan speed settings and explain how the fan should be set up for best efficiency, effectiveness for heating and cooling operation. we show how to get into setting mode for the Daikin wall controller.

What a god send. Unit was installed by a well know company that has been in business for 50 years, yet they did not ask anything around these settings. The constant dribbling cold breeze when in heat mode is what drove me to start looking for answers & found this. Also the bit of changing the temp sensor to the controller because in summer we were freezing & had the controller temp set to 28c to try tame it. Thank you so much.

I found it best to keep fan running during cooling, 22 - 6, during hot weather I found the ducting can warm up in the ceiling space and when the fan turns back I will get a blast of warm air before it cools. Keeping the inside fan running prevents this and having a draft during cooling is also preferrable IMHO.

Thank you - your explanation of what the codes do was very helpful. I have a Daikin ducted setup which was installed last December. At present we are experiencing some hefty frosts, down to -4. Consequently the house was very cold in the morning and the AC unit was struggling to warm it up, especially since it goes into a defrost cycle. Last night I let it run all night with a setting of 20 degrees. This morning the house was warmer but the AC had still entered a defrost cycle which may have happened several times during the night. Is it safe/sensible to let the unit run overnight in these conditions? Do I run the risk of damaging it?

It’s fine to let them run, design to do so. Improving your insulation (heat loss) will help system and reduce running cost.

Yes , but only if 23-6-(1-15) 1 groups the three fan speeds selectable from the controller at the lowest speeds. 15 groupe the three fan speed setting to the highest speeds. If you can only select high and low (medium is skipped) your fan is a AC fan motor, with only the few speeds.

I was just think there may be a way, when the timer is uses there is a set temp in the off setting with a heating cooling set point. It’s set up so that if the house gets above 35 degrees the system will come on even if its set to off and in heating I think its about 5 degrees, the heating will come on even if its off at the controller. Both the heating and cooling set points can be adjusted to a higher setting for heating or lower set point for cooling. If you set this up the unit should turn on if the temp in the house drops below the set point, so the heating will start and heat your home at night with out the operation light lit. Haven’t tried it my self but I believe it will work, not to shore of the differential of the system kicking in and out, but you should be able to work this out with a bit of trial and error. Thanks Craig

How long is a pice of string, there could be many factors into why it’s noise, air flow, short duct, 1st duct / closet duct to the indoor unit, restricted air flow, too much air flow 🤷‍♂️. But one thing is that it’s only that outlet, so it would be something different with just that particular duct. Check to see what difference are and maybe that will point you in the right direction.

Hi Aidan, It depends on what indoor units its connected to, but on ducted systems Australia th1 is usually the suction air thermistor on the indoor unit, th2 heat exchanger liquid line indoor unit, th3 heat exchanger gas pipe indoor unit, th4 discharge air temp indoor unit, th5 could be wall controller ??, easy way to check is to blow warm in the thermistor and see if it changes.

Hi Christian, It depends on the model of the ducted indoor unit and how new it is, with the older units they have a AC fan motor with 3 or 4 speeds (usually only 2 selectable from controller) . With the newer units they have a DC fan motor with 15 fan settings, each fan setting adjust the 3 selectable fan speeds at the controller. Yours may be an older system or it could also be a low static indoor unit that has less speeds. Kind regards Craig

@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the insulation application, for a office that’s need to meet the standard for introduced outside air (a conditioned office space requires 1lt/sec of outside air per m2 of floor area). The indoor fan need to run all the time to draw that air in, regardless if it heating or cooling, so measuring from the return air is more accurate. In a home this is not necessary and cycling the fan completely off to stop drafts is best. If the sensor in the return air is active (air inlet of indoor unit) and the fan is not running it’s not actually measuring the room temperature. On a cold but sunny day with a ducted system installed in the roof, the roof cavity may be quite pleasant 22 degrees, but in the house it’s only 18 degrees, if the controller was set to 21 heating, it would not turn on. So it is best to set the controller to look at the wall sensor for control for this application.

From experience leaving it on is more cost effective as the system is just ticking over and not running at full speed to raise the temp in the space. When my wife started staying home with the newborn I thought the running cost would go through the roof, but it was the same if not cheaper to run and more comfortable.

We have a ducted system with bedroom and living room zones. There is the master control panel in the living space and a slave/sub control panel in the upstairs hallway, with the return air duct in the same upstairs hallway. Does the control panel thermistor only read the downstairs main control panel (when the field settings are changed)? Does it make more sense to use the return air temp in this case?

When sensing from the wall controller when you have a master controller and a slave controller, the sensor will only look at the master controller. The 2nd controller is a slave controller just mimics what happening on the other controller and give you the ability to adjust settings from both controllers.

Hi there, I have one of these controllers, connected to a compact ceiling cassette. My observation is the system never works hard enough when I have it set to FAN AUTO mode. By that I mean it really struggles to reach the set temperature because it rarely shifts itself up beyond the lowest/quietest fan speed/power level. Is there some way in the field settings to make it more keen to shift into a 'higher gear' when in FAN AUTO mode; thus working a bit harder overall? I guess what I'm trying to say is I'd like the system overall to be more enthusiastic about ramping itself up so it can get to the set temperature faster. I had hoped your advice in this video with regard to changing the max fan speed would help, but it seems that playing with this particular field setting isn't available in my setup (I presume this is because I have a ceiling cassette and not a ducted unit).

Make sure 20-2-03 is set, also check c1-1-02 is set. Some models will all ways have some influence from the return air sensor. The only way around this is to install a remote sensor. You unplug the return thermistor, plug in the same plug on the pc board a remote sensor. You then install wall mounted sensor next to the wall controller. That’s the only way around this, there are a number of different sensors available from DAIKIN depending on the indoor model, if you get the wrong one, you can always cut the plug off the existing sensor and join the cables to the wall mounted sensor.

Hi Shaun, Good question, No they haven’t changed, codes starting with 1, ie 10 and 12 allow you to change the setting, and codes starting with 2, ie 20 and 22 are where you can view the current setting. With old controllers (about 10-20 years) you had to set the settings in the code starting with 1 and view the current settings in the codes starting with 2. You can now adjust the settings in both 1 or 2, but can only view current setting in codes starting with 2. Hopefully this is not confusing. Thanks Craig

This is brilliant. Thanks for such a clear explanation. Our Daikin unit is about 10 years old we have a BRC24Z4 type controller that you cover in another video. Are the settings the same as in this video when you access them? I am trying to work out how to adjust controller so that the fan doesn’t blow cold air for 5 minutes when we first turn the unit on before it starts blowing warm air. Is there a “pre heat” type setting?
@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 2 жыл бұрын
If your unit is 10 years old then the fan in the indoor unit is a ac fan motor, this fan only has a few speeds and there is only about 5%~10% different in air flow. When the unit starts up it will warm the indoor unit coil to about 42 deg before it turn no the fan, but the compressor is an inverter and it will take about 10 minutes to reach full speed (full heat output). This different in time is the cool air you are feeling. With the newer units the fan is a dc fan motor that has many speeds, ranging in speed from 5%~100%. The fan comes on slowly and continues to speed up as the coil increases in temperature, the end result is less cool air blowing at start up. With the brc24z4 best to set it to cycle fan off in heating and cooling, if you leave as factory set the fan will stay on all the time unless you have the fan in auto. But in auto fan it will sample the air (turn on the fan every 5 minutes for two minutes) so the return air sensor can take an air temp reading.

Thanks mate. Would all the models have a fan only mode? I ask because the apartment complex I’m moving into is being furnished with a brand new system with the same wall controller but the salesperson has mentioned there is only a heating & cooling mode, though I wasn’t convinced by that since all the videos on much older controllers show at least 3 modes (heat, cool, fan, auto & dry). Also, is the BRC1E63 still the latest model? If not, do the latest controllers have any new features compared to this one? Oh & would there be anything else to know if the apartment setup was a mixture of integrated vent in a bulkhead in living room & a couple of split system units in bedrooms (with their own, zoned controllers)? Thanks.

I believe there is outdoor air temp, coil temp, there are a lot more sensors but you need the daikin D-checker to look at them. If it’s a ducted system and the air flow is not even, you won’t get an even temperature. Most common cause is bad duct design, the length of duct feeding that room is longer than the other ducts or too small for the area. The other reason could be that that actually room has a higher heat load the the other rooms (like big west facing windows)

@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a hard question to answer. It depends on the size of the system and where you live (how cold it gets). I live in Canberra, it gets cold here, so when we size a system we don’t look at the capacity in the brochure as it’s measured when it’s 6 degrees outside. We refer to the engineering data book and look at the units capacity @ -5 degrees outside. As there is a large drop of in capacity at low outside temps. The daikin FDYA160 ducted system has a capacity of 18kw heating at 6 degrees outside. But that same system only has 12.9kw at -5, so it losses 5kw of performance. On top of that at -5 the system will need to go through a defrost so you loss heating for 10-15 min so there goes another 3kw of heat. So now your 18kw system is only capable of delivering 10kw of heat in 1 hour. If you needed 18kw of heat we would have sized a unit one or two sizes bigger. The FDYQ180 system has a large coil, so it’s ability to pick up heat from the air outside is very good. This unit has a rated capacity if 20kw heating and drops to 19.8kw @ -5, so it only loses 200watts. Not all units are the same and the loss differs depending on the model of unit, so it’s important for us to always look at the capacity in the engineering book for that unit. Sorry for the long answer. 😳

Don’t think so as factory set is 10, if you don’t get enough air across the coil it won’t allow the compressor to fully ramp up. The compressor will only run as fast as it’s needed, with low air flow, only so much gas can evaporate off, (changing from a liquid to a vapour) the speed of the compressor is slowed down so that liquid gas doesn’t flood back to the compressor and damage it.

Have you set the wall controller to be the active sensor like in the video ?? 20-2-03. Are you using the temp display on the wall controller or a different temp gauge. The system is only going to look at the active sensor to control the temp, the sensors are not always 100% accurate so you just adjust it till you feel comfortable. Is the wall controller near other heat source (like the sun or air blowing from a vent on to the sensor), is the controller on an exterior wall that cops a lot of sun.

Thanks for the informative video! I tried these settings out, and when I changed 22-3-01 to 22-3-03, and changed 22-6-02 to 22-6-03, this seems to have changed something on the compressor - it seems to step through more incremental speeds, and some of these are really quite loud and buzzy, clearly being heard from inside the house. Are these setting supposed to change the compressor settings like this? If I reset back to 22-3-01 and 22-6-02, everything goes back to normal again and the outside compressor is back to normal noise levels (i.e. not being heard from inside the house). My set up is an Australian install of a Daikin 3 phase FDYQN180LB-LY, and the outdoor unit is a RZQ180LY1, all using a BRC1E63 controller. @FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 6 ай бұрын
The settings are common for this unit, when you change the fan to cycle on and off with the t-stat you will need to set the sensor to the wall controller as it’s factory set to the indoor unit. If the fan cycles off, the indoor sensor is not sensing the room temperature air as there is no Air passing over it, this could be causing a big differential, and when the system starts back up, it realises that the temperature differences is wider than what it was reading, it may need to ramp up to a high-speed or over come the larger temp differential. You should set 20-2-03 sensing from wall controller only when setting the fan to cycle off. When it’s set to fan all ways being on it may be cycling the compressor more frequently at a lessor speed. But you are doing the correct thing, if it’s not how you want it change it back. You could try setting it too 22-6-01 fan set to low low speed in cooling t-stat off and keep it set to indoor unit sensor. This will drop the fan to a very low speed when the t-stat is off but keeps a small amount of air passing over the sensor in the indoor unit. Trial and error, just make a note of what it was set too original and if you’re not happy change it back.

Hello, I was just wondering what your recommended field setting would be for the fan on a Daikin unit in “cool” mode as the information online is very conflicting. In your video you suggest to set it to 22 6:03 (Fan shuts off when set temperature is reached), would that be your recommended setting to ensure a longer lifespan on the unit. As there are arguments for and against it, some of the information online suggest that having the fan on 22 6:02 in “cool” mode has benefits over having it set to 22 6:03. In your experience what setting ensure longevity of the unit?

Person choose, change it and see if you like it and how the system operates, you can change it back easily. I leave on unit on from the start of summer, if the house is hot the system runs to cook it down, we have had a cool spell in the weather and the system hasn’t needed to come on for the last two days, if the fan was set to run all the time I would find it annoying. You can plug in a remote sensor into the return air sensor port on the indoor pc board. Then that sensor can be placed somewhere in the house. You then set the controller to sense the temp from the return air temp sensor. If you wanted to switch from one to the other you would have to do it in settings in the controller. The other way would be to inset all a double pole double throw switch and wire two sensor into it and with the flick of the switch you would change sensing locations. You could install the daikin zone controller it has the ability to have two additional sensors fitted that can be selected from the controller. The problem with the zone controller is that it has a rubbish timer, doesn’t show actual temp, is difficult to set timer and doesn’t have half the stand feature of your current controller.

Filter will not stop the system from operating, the filter is purely a timed function, it’s a reminder and it won’t stop The unit from operating. There is a reset for the filter, if you go into the menu you should find it there. The biggest reason the system could be turning on after 10 minutes is there could be a fault or you may have one of the energy efficiency setting set. So if you go into your main menu, check energy efficiency and just have a look at all the potential settings and make sure that they’re all set to off, that’s what I’ll be checking first.

Hey do you know how to set the cycle on and cycle off duration? When i turn it on, it will stay on for about 2 hours, is there any way i can reduce this to about 30 minutes before it automatically switches off?

Can I use a wireless remote with this? Trying to make this smart within my smart home ecosystem
@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned Жыл бұрын
You should be able to connect a 2nd controller, one will be the master and one will be a slave controller. The 2nd controller can be a wireless remote controller. The wireless remote has a receiver and the actual wireless remote. The receiver is wired back to the indoor unit just like the wall controller and is surface mounted on the plasterboard wall or ceiling. The remote is IR, and only work “line of sight” to the receiver, like a tv remote, it doesn’t work if it’s not pointed at the tv’s receiver. Think it’s a BRC1E62.

I cannot change the mode 23 number 6 - are you using a split or a machine inside the wall?
@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 3 жыл бұрын
This setting is for a ducted split system (indoor unit ducted type, system split in two) design and for the Australian market.

I've made the changes as per your video (thanks) but it doesn't appear like the fan/condenser turns off once it reaches the set temperature. I set to 24 (cold) and timer of 2hours and it ends up getting too cold and can see the room temp is below (23) the set temperature. What could i be missing?
@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 2 жыл бұрын
When you turn the temp up dose it turn off, adjust it up till it turn off, what have you set all the codes or just the fan to cycle ??
@JamesC-vf7yy

@@FullyAirconditioned I haven’t tried turning the temp up, I’ll give that a go. Am I assuming correctly if the auto off timer still has time left only the air/condenser turns off and the power light still stays on? Definitely set the codes to -03 to turn off for hot and cold.

Do you know the setting to adjust the cooling “deadband”? When I have the cooling set to 75. It doesn’t turn on til 78 and doesn’t turn off til 72 (+/-3degrees). I’d like to lower that to only +/-1degree if possible. Thanks!
@FullyAirconditioned
@FullyAirconditioned 11 ай бұрын
That’s about 1.5 - 2.0 deg c, think that’s about as tight as you will get it .check in the services settings under “minimum set point differential” change if from 1 to 0 and see how that goes. You could also try 22-2-02 in field settings menu “change over set point differential”. Jut remember to write down what it was set to from factory so you can change it back it it doesn’t work.
