I installed a Daikin 14kw ducfed system today. 10 outlets 7 zones. Went with an air touch 5 system with sensors. Have had a fair few issues in the past with myair failing so have changed to air touch and so far its been really good. More options too.

I might have to give the air touch a go. Everyone seems to talk about it so they must be half decent. When you say more options, what exactly do you mean? I’m just curious. Cheers

@@maracservices there's more installer options and you have greater control and settings with an air touch. Also you can turn the zone on or off at the sensor which is handy.

Does air touch also allow you to specify a ITS as the master set point to cycle on/off the compressor? I want to have the baby room be the main driver of AC on/off and don't care much about the exact state of the rest of the house.

@Dynamacrtm yeah you can assign any zone as the master zone so the unit uses that set point to cycle off.

Nice install. Myair is a great system and reliable. I had a Panasonic aircon with Myair installed in 2020 and used it for 4 year with no issues. The only thing that annoyed me with Myair is the need for a constant zone. I moved to a new house this year and installed an actron advance. Offers similar functionality but allows for .5c tempreature adjustment and no need for constant zone. I wish the neo app was as reliable as the My air app.
@maracservices
@maracservices 4 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. The MyAir system actually doesn’t require a constant zone. That’s just something the installer put in there as a safety incase the home owner try’s to close all zones. You can change this setting from the tablet. I never put a constant zone in personally. Cheers

A nice neat installation Mitch,Tom well done, that seems a rather a complicated system ! You are correct Good Surge protection is so critical these days, Plus a good earth... Mitch, you are a great A/C install tech,as i prefer wall mounting brackets also,as you can hose, sweep underneath to keep things tidy 😀 👍

It sounds like the airhub can only cycle on/off based on the return air sensor and this can't be changed, is this correct? That's quite a limitation. Also the airhub can only set zones to +-2c of master. I assume myair doesn't have this limitation? Thanks.

Is there a reason why you choose Advantage Air over Airtouch? Price/Preferrence? Everytime ive dealt with an Advantage Air Control System its always had issues with there controls. Also You spoke about running the RJ45 Caballing next to power cable causing interference which is correct, But ive also heard you should not coil the cable over each other like that as it will also cause interference.

Hey mate, to be honest I genuinely don’t know much about Air Touch. When I first started using Advantage Air, Air Touch didn’t exist. I used air touch once a long time ago and didn’t like it but that’s not a fair comparison because it was a long time ago. Advantage air have had a shit load of issues over the last 10 years however that’s only with the e zone range. The MyAir range has been solid for me personally. I have used the MyGarage and MyView section on a couple of jobs too so maybe thats why I use advantage air. To be honest I think I need to try an Air Touch before I make any comments. I’m thinking about doing a comparison video.

@@maracservices Yeh I had a training day at Actron last year & they explained that it obviously looks nice and neat when you zip tie it & Roll it up, but there is a chance youll have interference issues. A good investment would to be to purchase a RJ45 Crimper and start cutting back the lengths you dont need & crimp a new plug onto it.
@maracservices
@maracservices 10 ай бұрын
@@AGeurts very interesting. Thanks for the tip. I actually have the crimper and make my own ends when roughing in jobs. I have the RJ45 bits in the car. In most cases though, I just use the roll they give you. From now on though I’ll just cut the end off. Cheers

Yeah definitely mate. Each room is its own zone that can be opened or closed. The zone motor has the ability to open and close in 5% increments so you can even balance the airflow from the controller.

Hey Mitch! Love your channel and your work. Is a drip tray only required if the indoor isn’t suspended? Cheers.
@maracservices
@maracservices 10 ай бұрын
@@charliehannaford1348 hey, thanks so much! In regards to the drip tray, that’s honestly personal preference. There’s no rules for it, it’s just what ever the installer wants to do. For me, I’ve personally never had a problem with the units leaking so I don’t use drip trays. Daikin is fan forced and the drain pipe size is quite big so those two things mean it doesn’t ever get blocked in my opinion. Also unlike other brands, Daikins drip tray inside the unit is styrofoam so it’ll never rust out. In conclusion, I don’t use drip trays because I don’t have a way of getting them in the roof without cutting things. However if you have the ability to add a drip tray, that means you have gone the extra mile and that’s respectable. Cheers

Hi, great video content 👌 Looking at doing a ducted heat pump for single story home with fresh air ventilation. Was thinking mitsubishi with a lossnay system attached. Is there a daikin system that will take a ventilation system also?.
@maracservices
@maracservices Ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Yeah Daikin has the same thing which is called a heat reclaim ventilator. Both the Mitsubishi one and the Daikin one are designed for commercial applications. I have fresh air in my house and it’s basically just a filtered fresh air vent that taps into my return air plenum. So I have roughly 10% fresh air in my house. I can adjust it manually to have more or less fresh air.

From memory, that's NBN FTTC model, and the clicking is the unit overheating (happened to my nonna). I'm 50/50 if I should go with Panasonic/MyAir5 or Actron Advanced with Neo and maybe 2 zones (or more if cost is somewhat reasoanble). Any thoughts/recommendations? On one hand, I like the idea of the Panasonic Naneox, and I like the MyAir 5 box unit in the roof (the vent control thing), but I don't really like the look of the tablet (looks like it's from 2006). The Actron I like Australian made, vertical discharge of the outdoor unit and the fact all parts including controller are from the same company, but I'm unsure about the outdoor unit noise and if its any louder compared to the Panasonic or ME units etc? Or was that the older units? And I'm not sure if one system can do something the other cannot etc? Like rampdown of the indoor unit etc?

I’ve got the my air with a Daikin 16KW system. From what I’ve observed in cooling the system doesn’t actually ramp down even when temp has been met, it seems as though it runs at a min 2KWH It heating though it does. Is this right?
@maracservices
@maracservices 10 ай бұрын
So when you say it doesn’t “ramp down”, I’m assuming you are talking about the air flow coming out of the vents? The outdoor unit where the compressor is located will definitely cycle off. To answer your question though, the indoor fan continues to cycle air even when the the system is at temp on cooling mode. This is normal. On heating however, when the system gets to temperature, the indoor fan will cycle off. The only reason it does this is because if it continued to cycle air whilst the outdoor unit was in the off state, you would get what would feel like a cold draft until the outdoor unit kicks back in. On cooling though you’ll never notice this so they just keep the fan on all the time to cycle air. Sounds like your system is running fine mate. Out of curiosity though, do you have solar and is that where you got the 2KWH measurement from?
@finnnymarley761
@finnnymarley761 10 ай бұрын
@@maracservices Oh okay that makes total sense. I do have solar, but I just use a Powerpal that shows the houses energy usage. So I’m kinda guessing but it sounds about right
@maracservices
@maracservices 9 ай бұрын
@@finnnymarley761 ah ok fair enough. I was just curious that’s all. When the system is at temp, the only thing drawing current is the indoor fan which is a tiny DC fan motor so I assume it would be similar to a ceiling fan being run.

@@maracservices is there a reason why? I’m in the middle at the moment of getting quotes for either Daikin ducted or Toshiba. I was only going for Daikin, because everyone says Daikin. But I’ve had a few people say Toshiba because of its warranty, reliability and after sales support. I live in Sydney NSW, and my old one was a pioneer brand. Went strong for over 25 years. Now it’s a different ballgame with all these new brands and features.
@maracservices
@maracservices 7 ай бұрын
@@4snday Yeah mate, it’s because Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric are manufactured in Thailand. Other brands like Fujitsu and Panasonic for example are manufactured in China. I personally despise anything made in China. I honestly couldn’t tell you where Toshiba are manufactured because I know so little about them. In my 17 years doing aircon, I hardly ever see Toshiba because they have such a low market share. They might be great, I wouldn’t know so do what feels best for you. Another thing to add, every single architect I’ve ever come across or any tender I’ve seen, has always made it a requirement to quote on Daikin or Mitsubishi electric. I don’t know why that is, but I’m assuming they feel the same way as me.
