I have no idea why the KZbin algorithm suggested a channel about a former inmate who is now reformed BUT I am SO VERY HAPPY it did! I have been a subscriber for a couple of months now. I have learned so much from your channel and from you as a person. Kudos to you for working so very hard to change your life for the better, getting an education, helping so many people around the world. Your life has NOT been easy- but you have worked so hard to overcome your hardships and continue to do so. I wish I knew you in real life! You are amazing ❤️

As a former C.O. we used to count after each meal.. I would always treat each resident. I use the term resident rather than Inmate. The reason I referred them as resident is due to the fact that they are humans. And that our roles could usually be reversed. You need to make a video describing PREA. I would always sit and eat the same meal

Yall😂 Its prison. I've done my share of state and county time (unfortunately)..but it saved my life. Getting up so early to eat isn't torture. It's a free meal, if u want it, u go. If u dont, u dont go. Simple as that. Only time we were required to go is during reception/intake...which was about 3 weeks. Yea our prisons suck...but there is so much worse shit going on that could be referred to as torture. Either way...I hope we all stay out! It's the most depressing shit I've ever endured...but I learned alot from it FINALLY lol. Good vibes to you ladies💙🥰

Hospital gowns and scrubs are also washed with soiled sheets and other bloody hospital linens all together. The temperature gets so hot in those industrial washers that it kills communicable pathogens. Pretty standard and safe for hospitals. There may be an “ick factor” but it’s totally safe and normal.

I worked in the library and LOVED it. We cataloged books, helped people find books and checkout their selections, we had a whole “library card” system like a regular library. And one of my favorite parts was choosing the weekend movies. I got to choose like 6 movies every Friday for the weekend, and that ability made me super popular in my pod, people would always have requests but you know nothing is free. I also got to choose and switch out the books for orientation and segregation units. In my county, we stayed in orientation for 3-7 days depending on the TB test and classification. So I got to choose books and go into those units to switch them out every week. One of the only positions that got to go into seg, along with the inmates that brought food to seg inmates. I also had unlimited access to books, not just the once a week library call. I was so sad when I went to minimum and couldn’t work in the library cause it was technically medium security, though in the same facility.

Routine actually has a very huge role in addiction. The process of setting up said drug, doing it, feeling the effects, then the deconstruction. Our brain gets used to the routine of getting high and that physical fixation. A close friend of mine explained that to me a while ago and I thought it was an interesting point of view.

Very true. As a recovering IV heroin addict, not only was I addicted to the drug, but I was addicted to the RITUAL of doing it. The going to cop the dope, ripping open the bag, putting it in the spoon or cooker, adding the water, stirring it around, putting the cotton in the dope, drawing it up into the needle, tying off my arm or wrist (after awhile you have to rotate where you shoot up because your veins collapse or hide after being poked for so long in the same places) and hitting that vein FINALLY and pulling the plunger of the needle back and seeing the blood spurt up into the needle (the "red flag" as I called it) and pushing the dope into your vein. I have 7 years clean now (I'm on suboxone, so that is my new routine for the last 7 years) so I've become adjusted to that now. But sometimes I miss the "process" of shooting dope just as much as I loved the feeling it gave me.

There have actually been studies that show this routine would trigger a neural response that would make your high less strong. It was as if your body knew what was going to happen & would start to release chemicals prior to you actually ingesting/injecting the drugs. The same studies showed that getting high in a new environment would remove this effect, and you would experience a stronger high with a greater risk of overdose. Brains are crazy.

Same thing in the military. All of those years we used to complain about water and Motrin being the cure all. That was years ago, now I think back and wonder how many lives they saved by giving out Motrin instead of narcotics like civilian providers were doing. I bet it’s thousands.

@@AlexisgFay makes alot of sense (vietnam) but, i think there are injuries that deserve narcotics No matter what. Military, inmates, addicts, and anyone for that matter deserve pain management and where im at, its a verry rare occasion for some one to be perscribed a controlled substance, but when they are, its for a verry short time and they have to be alone in the medical unit, monitored for the durration of the perscription (which i get). I've only seen it once for a C-section

I was a CO for a big bad 3 months. All I could stand. I was in SC and the CO's were awful to the inmates. My training officer was a show off and did cruel things to laugh at the inmates. The women were scary. I had to pay them down and they would make comments about how they liked me touching them and how no woman ever touched them like that. Kinda scary when I'm only 5Ft and 110 pounds. I'm not cut from the right cloth to be in law enforcement. I'm entirely too nice and trusting. Love your channel and glad to see you doing well.

I used to work at a youth custody facility and it was my favourite job. I made a point to make sure I treated every young girl respectfully and humanely because I knew about how poorly they were often treated due to mental health, addiction and situations out of their control. I always ate meals with them and never brought in treats etc. I followed all the rules/ expectations of my job description and never made exceptions however I still always felt that just the way I interacted with them could maybe make a difference. I eventually stopped working at the facility for a few reasons however it was mainly due to the other very cold staff who bullied staff they didn’t like (me) lol. I knew the facility was going to be closed down soon anyways so I moved on for my sanity however I felt bad leaving the girls behind knowing there were only a few staff that actually were working their for the youth.

My dad was a CO for many years. He would always bring us home the sporks from the kitchen, toothbrushes and other things. He worked at a women’s prison as well as a men’s prison. The stories I’ve heard from him are crazy, but the stories I’ll always remember were the stories he would tell me of how he would befriend certain women and they would remind him of his daughters. He said that he was surprised how many of the COs didn’t treat inmates like humans. he met some of the coolest/nicest people who were inmates. It’s so sad how although my dad was super sweet yet tough when he needed to be, many of the guards were just horrible. I wish more were like my dad.

California is totally different when it comes all your talking about. I really don’t think I’d like prison in NY and ARK. Our breakfast was at 6 am and they ran 4 buildings per yard. They’d give us a sack lunch. We had six yards. Yard opened at 8 am. and was shut down at 4 pm. We had 4 buildings per yard with 24 dorms (10 to 12 inmates per dorm). And usually over 200 inmates per building. It would always vary. I ran canteen and was a plumber. I was gone all day. We had count at 4:30 pm just before dinner and at 9:30 pm. Also at 4:30 am. Kitchen workers left at 5 am. for breakfast and 3 pm for dinner. We had open showers. And mail was always after dinner. Night yard was 7 pm to 9 pm. We also had hourly unlocks. We played all kind of sports and were able to receive quarterly packages. I was there 4 years and it really wasn’t that bad. Just no damn privacy. Love your channel.

I worked in county jail here in texas. We ate the same food the inmates got. Some of it was really good. We got more than the inmates, and we had a trustee serving the food to us. In the jail where I worked, (I am a male) we did not ever watch women in the shower. I did have to back up the female deputies who would take the prisoners out of the isolation cells to let them shower, (I stayed out in the hallway.) The only naked women I saw in there was accidental (or not, maybe those women knew I was there.) We had a check we had to do once a shift from the catwalk, where we walked around the whole floor and could listen and see what they were doing from the rear areas of the cellblocks. This is where the one inmate flashed me, another woman stopped me and asked for "manhole covers" (sanitary napkins) at the bars, she stepped out of the shower and was looking right at me and started toweling off but was making no effort to cover up. I know I turned red and moved where I couldn't see her. I didn't like working on the women's floor but I had to. Women had to work on the men's floors too. And the women had underwear mailed in by family or they could buy it off commissary. They even had teddys! I was in the isolation cells area letting the men out to shower when a inmate I did not know about stepped out in just briefs and I thought a mistake had been made. I thought a woman had been put in the male tank, but it was a Transsexual not all the way through the process.
