This video features a condensed version of a lecture that Professor John Lennox gave at Rice University with the Veritas Forum addressing the Problem of Evil and Suffering from a Christian perspective. He exposes how Atheism becomes insufficient and self-refuting in light of the problems we face in the real world. I hope this is helpful to you and that it brings you closer to Hope in the face of suffering.

@@kinggenius930 sorry for the long post… honestly I’m not 100% sure. I know I was deep into politics and some of the podcasts I used to listen to would talk about God and Jesus. I remember really wanting to believe but none of it made sense. I couldn’t buy into a virgin birth or all the miracles. It seemed irrational. Nevertheless, I decided to attend a church. This was during COVID while the country was screaming “masks and 6 feet!” I walked into a church where people were hugging and loving and fellowshipping without fear. Without judgement. I loved it. So I kept attending. Sporadic at first. But became more consistent. Now to answer your question… it wasn’t evidence that convinced me. This will sound weird to an atheist, but it was divine. It was truly from above. Without even seeing much evidence, I decided to pray and eventually I decided to surrender to Jesus. I prayed to God to help me believe. To remove the doubt and unbelief. I fell in love with apologetics later and that only solidified my faith. It wasn’t apologetics that did it though. I don’t have a specific “day of salvation” to speak of. It’s been a journey. But I can promise you that this is more than just words. I find it incredibly difficult even impossible to explain to a non believer what it means to be born again. The best I can do is say “come and see.” I could talk about this for hours, but I’m rambling.

@@kinggenius930 so it’s a long story but I’ll try to keep is short. But surprisingly, it wasn’t evidence that convinced me. I didn’t even know about apologetics until after I was saved. However, I fell in love with apologetics and it has solidified my faith. Before I was saved, I listening to political podcasts that mentioned God and Jesus and of course they would throw in the Gospel message. At a certain point I remember really wanting to believe but it all seemed so outlandish. I couldn’t believe the “fairy tales” in the Bible. I liked the idea of a loving God, but I just couldn’t make myself believe any of it. Nevertheless, I decided to join a church….

@@kinggenius930 I always find it difficult or even impossible to explain what it means to be born again to an unbeliever. The best I can do is to tell you “come and see”. In the beginning, I would pray to God to help me believe. To increase my faith and remove my doubts. He did. Looking back, I’m realizing that was probably my first answered prayer. Ultimately it was pure faith. It was a desire to know this God. Not evidence. That all came later to solidify my faith. What really convinced me that it’s all real is the fact that I began changing. I had new desires. I desired to do good and please God. I desired to spread the Word. I desired to stop sinning. God delivered me from porn and drinking and anger with very little struggle. All this stuff began happening before I read in the Bible that believers are supposed to experience this change.

As a Christian and a Bible study person I would like to challenge all believers to start addressing God as Father. Cry Abba with me. I drove for a company that transported people who were confined to a wheelchair. I remember a young women who was extremely challenged with many physical problems. Some that tormented her daily. I asked her if she believed in God and she replied.... My Father is always beside me. I'll never forget how that made me feel. Her relationship with Father was a very personal and sincere Love for our Father. love you all Bill.

Jesus gave us The Lord's Prayer which begins, "Our Father..." (Emphasis on "Our") One of the most important things Jesus gave us was that our relationship with God is like that of a loving parent and their child. He sacrificed his life rather than back down from his message. But like a loving parent, he can not protect us from the all the chaos in this world.

@@gloriaanoveros9568 The RCC's view of the church is completely at odds with the NT. It is the Scripture, and it alone, that is the guide for all Christians. The church on earth must submit to the Scriptures. In addition , the idea that the RCC is the church that Christ setup, and that all believers must submit to it, is also rejected in the Scriptures in the strongest possible manner. The RCC bears no resemblance to the church which is portrayed in the NT. Their view is only obtainable if one approaches the Scriptures with such rigid theological misconceptions that they must “mis-interpret” these verses to conform it to their own theological system. If you are absolutely commit yourself to the LITERAL, GRAMMATICAL, HISTORICAL HERMENEUTIC you will be able to understand the "Full Counsel of God" and come to the conclusion the church is not the RCC. KEY POINT: Literal, grammatical, historical hermeneutic is the same approach used in ordinary communication. In fact American jurisprudence rests upon this interpretive approach. The dictionary defines literal interpretation that is "based on the actual words in their ordinary meaning...not beyond the facts. In addition, it should be noted in passing that literal interpretation has been unfairly criticised on the basis that it adheres to a wooden, inflexible literalism that fails to allow for types, symbols, figures of speech and genre distinctions. Literalism does not preclude or exclude correct understanding of types, illustrations, apocalypses, and other genres within the basic framework of literal interpretation. It is not too difficult to account for the widespread approval of the spiritualizing or allegorizing method adopted by many conservative theologians as well as liberal and ROMAN CATHOLIC expositors. Fundamentally its charm lies in its flexibility. The interpreter can change the literal and grammatical sense of Scripture to make it coincide with it own system of interpretation. Shalom

@@cartier13It's like the people who go to the hospital, have a team of doctors fix them up, then thank God for it. You'd think that if a god was on their side, they wouldn't have needed to be in the hospital in the first place.
@BloodOnWood

@@cartier13I’ve already been through all of that, so it would not apply in this situation. Having been deceived by false teachers like Alan Watts and other new age gurus, I used to research depth psychology and it made me even more empty. I read philosophy books, but the philosophers were searching just like I was. All the while there was an old unopened bible sitting on top of a shelf. I thought it foolishness to even consider it as a possibility that the answer to this ultimate question of meaning and purpose could be found in that book full of silly stories. After all, how could a man dying on a cross 2,000 years ago help me today? Besides, I couldn’t even understand it if I tried. Until I heard the GOSPEL being preached open air one evening in Las Vegas. This man was speaking to the crowds about the fact that we are ALL sinners who bare n need of a savior and I was immediately offended, but for the first time I knew I was hearing the truth. I was not being coddled in my sin by some guru, philosopher or psychologist. These words cut straight through to the core of the matter, and I could not let it go no matter how much I wanted to. I searched on KZbin for gospel presentations and testimonies from other people about how the GOSPEL changed their lives, and I would listen all day every day for about a week, and then one day I heard a testimony of a young person who shared this Bible verse, “On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophecy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and perform many good deeds in your name?’ And I shall say to them, ‘Depart from Me, I never knew you, you who practice lawlessness!’” This verse is speaking about Jesus, and what Jesus will say to those people who think they are good, but never knew Christ. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks, that the verse was talking directly to me about me. That because I had turned away from God, he was going to turn away from me. I fell down on my knees that very moment, and begged God to forgive me, with tears falling and my nose running, I could only say one word, and I said it over and over, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” I wasn’t sorry for myself over the fact that I was on my way to a place called hell, I was sorry for all of the sin that I had committed throughout my life. All of the sin which caused Christ to go to the cross and suffer on my behalf. I knew that I had contributed to the pain and suffering that He endured on the cross. In that moment I was forgiven, and I knew it. And that made me cry even more, and it still does to this day, knowing that after everything that I had said against God and raising my family to ignore Him, He still forgave me. And I still hadn’t read my Bible or been to church, yet I had received salvation. It was through the GOSPEL! The Bible tells us that very thing, it says that, “The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe,” it also says that, “The gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those who are being saved, it is the power of God.” So when we hear the GOSPEL we all have 2 choices according to that verse, we can harden our hearts and think it foolishness, or we can believe by the grace of God, when we humble ourselves. So what is the gospel? It is the good news, the offer of peace between enemies, which is what we are toward God. But God, who desires that none should perish but that all would come to repentance, has extended an olive branch. He has given us a way out of being judged as an enemy. And He, God, the creator of the heavens and the earth has set the terms of this peace. He has given His son who is God in the flesh, who lived a sinless life, who gave his life while taking the punishment that was due to me, and then rising from His tomb on the third day proving that He is who He says He is, and ultimately that He can do what He says He and only He can do which is forgive us of all of our sin. So we must respond to these conditions by turning from whatever path of sin we are on, and turning towards Christ. This is called repentance, when we die to ourselves and forsake our sin, lest we forsake Christ. I pray that you would repent and put your faith in the sacrifice which God has provided for you, because He loves you 🙏

@@bibleburner8426A better example would be like a man in a war who is shot at, but is pushed out of the way of the bullet and saved by his friend who takes the bullet for him. Most would agree that this friend saved his life. But what if instead of the man who was saved, after the war is over, goes and visits the father of the friend who saved his life, and instead of praising the son to the father and thanking him for saving his life, the man says, “You know, your son was a fool for what he did. I really didn’t need him to do that for me, I could have survived without him.” That father is going to say “Get out of my house and don’t come back!” And that is exactly what we look like before God. Jesus died so that we might have life, but so many of us have already abandoned Him and turned our backs to Him. On that day when we stand before God, He is going to care to know one thing and one thing and one thing only, what did you have to do with His son? Did you receive Him as your savior and Lord, or did you reject Him?

@@JP-je6jg "I know God to be true because I study maths"...he doesn't explain why ... " - Evolutionists and atheists insist abogenesis is possible because of their emotional need for a godless universe - not by observational evidence. In a purely mathematical analysis DNA can only be created by an Intelligent Designer. Random mutations can't do the job because accumulating mutations quickly degrade the structural and thermodynamic stability and function of protein folds. The stable tertiary structure of DNA is lost long before the mutations in question could generate a functioning novel protein fold. The job must be done without delays. It may come as surprise to evolutionists, but time is the enemy of random process. Every error in the process creates new errors. Only 3-15 mutational trials and errors are enough to destroy a DNA section, while different possibilities for error are counted in millions. After each failure the random process must start again and again - in the everlasting vicious circle. Billions of years weaken the chances of success, not improve them. What is even more crushing to the idea of random DNA evolution is the fact that even if a random DNA indeed did appear, it could not be functional. Why? Because somebody must inform DNA of the correct structure in advance. DNA has no brains to do the planning or set the goal to itself. A successful random evolutionary process is for all intents and purposes impossible. There are other practical problems too. Energy is needed to turn disorder into order. That energy, however, has to be carefully controlled and precisely directed because uncontrolled energy is more likely to speed up decay, just as the energy from the sun and the weather can hasten the deterioration of a building. Those who believe in evolution cannot satisfactorily explain how energy could be creatively directed in a random process. We do know that atheists take the mathematically weakest possibility against the strongest possibility, if this approach support their atheistic worldview. This however is not scientific thinking. The more we read of atheistic reasoning, the better we understand the lack of science in that reasoning.

@@ThiagoMnab - How everything started was with God creating the first batch of angels with free will. They all knew the rules in the eternal realm, like reading a list of rules posted on the wall, but they did not have any life experience to understand the context about why some of the rules existed. So, a third of them broke the rules to test them, and to test God, and He created this lower dimension that we live in now. The angels who broke the rules were cast down to this realm, and new souls God creates must go through trials and hardships here in temporary lives so we can learn the context of why right is right, and why wrong is wrong, that way we will not do as the rebellious angels did. You are meant to witness injustice and unfair things here, that is important to understanding the context of the rules in Heaven, where no sin is allowed. Sin is brought on by a lack of knowledge, the context we are learning on Earth, as well as any personality flaw. I can show you the 11:11 list that God led me to understand. Positives: Humility, Generosity, Compassion, Integrity, Impartiality, Diligence, Sympathy, Appreciation, Optimism, Restraint, and Love. Negatives: Pride, Greed, Cruelty, Deception, Bias, Negligence, Retaliation, Entitlement, Pessimism, Indulgence, and Hatred. Each of these are opposites of the other. Your goal in life is to choose humility over pride, generosity over greed, and so on. This is what you should be actively working on, while the context of understanding will be placed in your life path; God will handle that. I hope this knowledge will help you in your journey.

Sin is nothing but going away from God's love. God put His life at stake to free the mankind, because He created the mankind with FREE WILL. The people who blame God who created them with freewill, shall not forget, God was not a silent spectator, but putting His life at stake He further revealed the fulness of His love. He really isn't. Anyone with an ounce of critical thinking can see his argument is purely based around his desire for god to be real. Seriously, we don't need god to decide what is right and wrong. @@JP-je6jg In response to your first argument. I could also say Richard Dawkins does the same based on his desire God not to exist. He also admited that he falsed information in his book "Gods Delusion" about Jesus and in an interview said there is nothing that could convice me about Gods existence (so he is against the cientific method). In response to de Hammurabi argument. The babilonians praised Gods as all civilizations throughout history. And yes we have an innate sense of being good but also of being bad. And God is of course needed to make a distinction between god and evil, because without God there is no objective/superior moral standard in order to be good. If there is no God and you want to follow a kind of an evolved animal based nature, then we should kill the weaker and the ill, because natural selection is the only law in the animal kingdom. A man called Hitler tried it, and it did not end very well. By the way this is social darwinism developed by Sir Francis Dalton (Darwins cousin). I am open to debate.
@JP-je6jg
@JP-je6jg 3 ай бұрын
@@dieastrologischeecke4673 Right, so the problem with your take is…Dawkins can evidence his points with documented science. Lennox as far as I have seen, has never done that. Dawkins doesn’t need to appeal to emotions to make his point, Lennox does. OK, I have read the God Delusion, I’d be interested to hear what bits were falsified? And no, he is just using the myriad ways that the brain can be tricked, to explain that there are far more logical ways in which we might, for example, hear voices. If you heard a voice telling you that to test your faith, you had to kill your eldest son…would you immediately do that? Or would you sit and think and consider the options? We know people hear voices and suffer from all sorts of mental illnesses, so what is more likely, god speaking to them or…they are very unwell people? Also, you know who would know what would convince Dawkins, your all knowing, all powerful god. Yet he doesn’t seem bothered enough to try. So you admit the Babylonians had gods? Excellent, so you acknowledge that wasn’t your god, the Christian god? Yet they still had an idea of what right and wrong was. They knew murder was bad, they knew theft was bad etc. But that can’t have come from your god, because they didn’t worship him. You also acknowledge that we have a sense of right and wrong innate in all of us. This will have evolved over thousands of generations as our social species developed. We live in family groups and we form bonds, we would want to see them protected, so suffering is something we have decided is bad. So, I don’t know where you somehow force god into this? Objective morality does not exist. Objective morality means it is true regardless of outside influences or contexts. The Bible endorses slavery, the Bible says it is ok to kill non Christians, it endorses incest. Yet now, we know these things to be wrong. If those things were ok and now aren’t…that means its impossible for there to be an objective standard. They are subjective as they change with the times. Do you understand that? Its really important you do. Let’s look at god themselves. So, as you point out with Hitler, genocide is wrong, yet if the flood story is true, god committed genocide…so genocide when we do it is bad…but when god does it, its ok? That doesn’t sound like objective morality to me. Let’s be honest here. Your last comment puts two and two together and makes twenty nine and so sorely mispresents humanist values as to very nearly count as libel. I don’t believe in god and yet I don’t feel the need to slaughter those weaker than me. In fact, god(s) have often been the justification for some of the most horrendous acts in history. I don’t believe in god, but I respect the life of other people. As humans, we have developed beyond simple and base animal instincts. Do I really need to explain that? We have complex social structures and sets of mutually beneficial laws and values. We create art and culture. We have changed and transformed the planet to suit us. To the planet’s detriment, we clearly don’t operate in the same ecosystems. So, to try and state you have god or animal instinct, is just ridiculous and completely dishonest. Your god appeared thousands of years after human society had developed. We had the pyramids and Stonehenge and Gobekli Tepe, all of them dedicated to different gods and belief systems. So, the arrogance you display by trying to hijack human compassion for your god is quite frankly a little sickening.

He started with Epicurus' paradox and without giving any arguments, just went to some useless Dawkins rant.Nobody cares about Dawkins, the point is where is your evidence that Chrisrt resurrected? Or that he performed miracles? Or that he was born by virgin mother? Trying to convince everyone that Dawkins isn right(truly l think he often is too stubborn) doesnt make right any of fundamental christianity's or islam's claims.Its not about Dawkins or any other atheist, its about why you still believe in ancient Jew's mythology?Please note, l am not disproving God/Force/Creator behind the universe/multiverse, but rather all lies and stupidity that you take as the truth.

We shouldn't spend a lot of time trying to understand the logic behind God, or why he does what he does. Instead, we should focus on how we can be the son or daughter God has always wanted. That was a powerful statement by Mr. Lennox. Why do we feel inherently, as humans, that doing evil is wrong and good is good? Is there no purpose or reason for existence? This got me thinking so deeply. Dear Lord, I praise you that we still have time to learn from our errors and redeem ourselves as a species, to be what you have always wanted us to be.

This spot hit home hard at 8:12 "Why do you have children?" I have three children, and I love them very much. Sometimes, their actions and words grieve me, but to use that as a reason never to have had them is unthinkable. Have you noticed that as our culture has gotten further away from God, what has happened to families and children? The family is destroyed in many cases, and some married people proudly state, "I will NEVER have a child." People who are perfectly capable and able to have children REFUSE to do this one great, procreative act! They are extinguishing their legacy by choice, something people and societies of the past knew was their one great imperative: to make a future. With no children, there is no future. Perhaps this, then, is God's judgment on the modern age: the diminishing of all our great societies due to lack of young people. There simply won't be enough young people to care for all of the older people, even if they have tons of money they've "saved" by not having kids. You can only hire a nurse or doctor who was born, and there will only be so many to go around. We already are below replacement rate with our birth rate in the USA. Only immigration sustains our population, and right now we have a chaotic immigration that isn't going to do a good job of melting into society. My advice? Find a good man or woman. Marry, have kids, raise them up in fear and love of the Lord. May they be a blessing in your old years. I can't predict the future, but every sign points to a future with a lot of lonely, desperate people about 50 years from now wondering why they ever thought rejecting children was a good idea... and there will be no son or daughter to comfort them.

Unless you an be sure your child will make the correct profession of faith they may end up in Hell. So, why did you as a believing Christian decide to take that chance with your child’s eternal destiny? The closer you are to god’s purposes the less good reason you have to have children.

This is a perfect lauching pad into sharing the gospel. I usually add a little about how the suffering Jesus went thru was far greater than anything we go through on Earth and He is the only one that doesn't deserve it!!

To all the atheists and skeptics that are here, I just want to thank you for taking the time to watch this video. I appreciate your willingness to at least hear us Christians out, even if you still disagree in the end. As the saying goes, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." So thank you for doing that. Obviously my hope is that you would be convinced by the evidence for Christianity, but even if you are not convinced at all right now, I hope that you'll continue to stick around and watch more videos. Who knows what the future may hold? If God is real, maybe this is Him trying to get your attention.

ETERNAL DEATH as the CONSEQUENCE for INSULTING and DISHONORING JESUS CHRIST Atheists, Evolutionists, Mormons, SDAs, Jehovah's Witnesses, Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Born Again Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and fanatic members of all kinds of Religions in the world who are raising, glorifying, and exalting themselves as greater, glorious, powerful, higher and superior than Jesus Christ obviously don't respect and value their own lives, dignities, and existence..... unbothered and just don't care even if their Satanic arrogance and foolishness in mocking, opposing, and defying the Creator's Sovereignty and his Christ's authority and teachings about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" bring them nothing but their own dishonor, disgrace, downfall and ETERNAL DEATHS, just worthless and useless dusts on earth forever like Adam and Eve. ETERNAL LIFE and existence on Earth as HONOR and REWARD for HONORING and OBEYING JESUS CHRIST All persons on earth who willingly honor and obey Jesus Christ as the Creator's Anointed King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth and believe his teachings about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" will definitely be honored and rewarded by the loving, kind, and merciful Creator with ETERNAL LIFE and existence on Earth without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death. The teaching of Jesus Christ about the "RESURRECTION of the DEAD" is the Creator's guarantee that loving, kind, and respectful persons on earth who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, King David, Jesus Christ's Followers, and many others will definitely be RESURRECTED back to life by Jesus Christ in the Creator's right and proper time so they can all happily, peacefully, and abundantly live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects and citizens of the "KINGDOM of GOD" and fully enjoy the eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings of the Creator and his Christ for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth, Jesus Christ.

Having experienced selfishness and selflessness from others and me doing so, that experience leads me to believe "selflessness is better than selfishness." And Jesus claimed to be God and he gave proof of such, for the purpose for which he died on the cross was to pay the penalty of sin, of wrongdoing, for each person that would ever live. He lived and died helping others and never himself. Even if Jesus did not live again after dying, this would still be the greatest act of selflessness conceivable by the human mind. This is how at least I know God is good.@@thescott4340

There has not been any evidence of God bought up based on morality . It is an interesting monologue but it does not explain morality. Hypothetically if you are alone on a deserted island does good and evil exist? Good and evil exist in the context of interactions with others.
@rocksolidhope
@rocksolidhope 3 ай бұрын
@@kos-mos1127 I would say yes, good and evil still exist if you are alone on a deserted island. Harming one's self is considered by most people to be wrong and evil. That individual would be committing evil against themselves. In contrast, taking care of your body, nourishing your body is considered good by most people. These actions can still be done even if you are alone on a deserted island. Another example could be taking care of the environment or polluting the environment. You don't need other people to do that. Most people consider taking care of the environment to be morally right and good. You are right that good and evil exist in the context of interactions with others. But good and evil also exist in the context of interactions with yourself and the physical world around you. I'm interested to know more about your beliefs. Do you believe in objective moral values? Or do you believe that morality is subjective? For example, do you believe that it is always wrong to harm an innocent child? Or would you say that's a subjective matter?
