It really is. I can understand that. Cuz if I look at all I think is causing it, and honestly look at my feelings towards it, I create it. I've conquered huge things like it was a breeze. And I've sweat over things people everyday just do and don't even think about it. And I realize I live each moment as I choose. May not be easy to make the choice, but I choose.

I enjoy Ryan's writings and love his podcast. That said, there are times when he overlooks and/or simplifies incredibly complicated issues, such as anxiety, distilled into bite size sound bites for clicks. Anxiety is incredibly complicated, the neurophysiology of which isn't even fully understood. If you can just put down your anxiety, you don't have anxiety, you have hubris.

I think I agree and disagree with you at the same time. This past year I was hit with anxiety episodes where I would cry and not sleep for days at a time. It took me a lot of work (mostly reading and talking) to understand that, at the end, it’s all within me so I can discard it, as he puts. That’s what I agree with. The part I disagree is that it takes time, effort and knowledge to come to that conclusion. You cannot simply discard it without going through all of this and by him say it like that, it comes across as dismissive and inconsiderate. Since I can’t read his mind, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and believe it came from a good place as Ryan’s vídeos helped me a lot during this journey trying to deal with myself.
@belapatata1819
@belapatata1819 2 жыл бұрын
While it's true that anxiety is just in our heads--or like Marcus Aurelius said, "within me," to simply say it's just something you discard is not that simple. It's not that cut and dry. Anxiety is even part of our biology to protect us and even though it gets to a point where there's more anxiety than necessary, it's not just something you can discard.
@tucazbr

@Bela Patata I agree with you and that’s what I meant by “going through all the steps”. During my crisis period I read books about the neurology and science around anxiety and all the physical implications. From the amígdala response to how the vagus nerve can help us control it. I had to learn all that to help with the physical symptoms and way more to handle the psychological side of it which is what he is addressing in this bite. It is complex and hard but if all you have is 30 seconds to explain, it’s a good “take” that maybe can get others interested in the subject and drive them to learn more. Anyway, Ryan’s content was super important to my recovery and for that I will be eternally grateful to him.

@tucazbr Hi! Sorry I just saw your replies. I didn't see your first reply when I wrote all this. You're right, we have to go through the stages and that takes time and work. I agree with almost every thing you said. It is a 30 sec vid and you Ryan can't really say much within that. And I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt but I still find his videos--even the longer ones, are too vague? I'm not sure how to articulate it. I'm still subscribed though because I wanna understand him more and give the benefit of the doubt

JESUS LOVES YOU! HE LOVES YOU SO MUCH INFACT, THAT HE SURRENDERED HIS LIFE, SO THAT YOU MAY HAVE LIFE ABUDANTLY THROUGH HIM, AND TO LIVE FORVEVER WITH HIM IN PARADISE. JESUS WAS A CARPENTER, JUST AN ORDINARY MAN ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT WHAT PEOPLE DIDNT KNOW AT THE TIME IS THAT, THIS MAN WAS ALSO GOD, AND WOULD SOON BE THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD. HE TOOK ON THE LOOK OF A MAN AND HE HAD FLESH LIKE YOU AND I, BUT HE IS ALSO THE ALMIGHTY GOD WE KNOW AND LOVE! ONE DAY, JESUS WAS INPRISONED FOR HIS TEACHINGS, THE PEOPLE WERE GIVEN A CHOICE FOR WHO THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE CRUCIFIED. THEY COULD CHOOSE BARABBAS, A KILLER, OR JESUS OUR SAVIOR TO BE CRUCIFIED. THE COMMUNITY SHOUTED BARABBAS, BARRABAS LET HIM BE FREE. JESUS WAS THEN BEATEN, HE HAD HIS FACE HIT WITH MULTIPLE BLOWS WITH A STAFF, MADE UNRECOGNIZABLE, WHILE BEING LAUGHED AT AND MADE FUN OF BY HIS OWN PEOPLE. THEY MOCKED HIM, SPAT ON HIM, THEN CAME THE WHIP, JESUS WAS PLACED AT THE STAKE, THIS WAS NO ORDINARY WHIP, THIS WHIP WAS MADE SPECIFICALLY TO RIP FLESH FROM THE BODY. AFTER BEING WHIPPED, THEY PLACED A THORNY CROWN UPON HIS HEAD, AND LAUGHED AT HIM SAYING, "ALL HAIL KING OF THE JEWS" HE WAS THEN GIVEN A HEAVY WOODEN CROSS, WHERE HE THEN WAS TAKEN TO CALVERY TO BE CRUCIFIED. THEY LAYED HIM DOWN ON THE CROSS, BLOODIED AND BEATEN ALREADY IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN. IT WAS NOW TIME FOR THE NAILS, THEY HAMMERED LARGE NAILS THROUGH HIS HANDS, AND HIS FEET. THEY THEN ROSE THE CROSS. JESUS HAD TO RAISE HIS BODY UP AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO GET A BREATH OF AIR, OR ELSE HE WOULD SUFFOCATE. THE AGONY HAVING TO MOVE WITH YOUR HANDS AND FEET NAILED IN, COULD YOU IMAGINE? AT THE LAST HOUR, JESUS HAD ONE MORE MISSION TO COMPLETE, HE HAD TO TAKE ON MY SIN, YOUR SIN, EVERYONES SIN, FOR ALL GENERATIONS TO COME. THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY TO ATONE FOR OUR MISTAKES, EVERY MURDER, EVERY SELFISH ACT, EVERY RAPE, EVERY LIE, ALL THE GREED, SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS, ENTITLEMENT, RESENMENT, WAS ALL BORE ONTO HIMSELF BECAUSE THAT IS HOW MUCH YOUR KING LOVES YOU. THEN JESUS BREATHED HIS LAST. DONT WORRY THERE IS STILL MORE TO THIS STORY! HE WAS THEN BROUGHT TO HELL, WHERE HE WITNESSED FOR 3 DAYS! FOR THOSE THAT HAVE NEVER HEARD THE GOSPEL.ON THE THIRD DAY, GOD BROUGHT JESUS BACK FROM THE DEAD! JESUS WAS RISEN, HE CAME BACK TO LIFE! HE NOW HAD A GLORIFIED BODY! AFTER 40 MORE DAYS LIVING ON EARTH, HE ACENDED INTO HEAVEN, WHERE HE REIGNS TODAY! ISNT OUR SAVIOR AWESOME, HE IS OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD, HOW CAN HE LET BAD THINGS HAPPEN? WELL WE LIVE IN A FALLEN WORLD, WE ARE UNDER THE CURSE OF SIN, BUT JESUS PAID FOR OUR SINS, AND WHEN YOU ACCEPT HIM INTO YOUR HEART, AND MAKE HIM YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR, YOU WILL SEE JUST HOW MUCH HE LOVES YOU, AND JUST HOW MUCH HE HAS IN STORE FOR YOU. HE WILL GET YOU THROUGH THIS DYING WORLD AND YOU HAVE A HOPE, THAT ONE DAY, YOU WILL BE JOINED WITH HIM, AND WILL REIGN WITH HIM FOREVER AND EVER! HALLELUJAH TO THE RISEN KING! GOD BLESS YOU ALL.✊

You present a great mystery...clearly you have mastered and broke the code of Stoicism. And yet, with this vast knowledge...i have heard you try to APPLY it in the most ludicrous and silly ways...such as your example of Colin Kappernick being celebrated by future generations and historians for his courageous kneeling. You seem to want to appeal to wokeness and the liberal agenda when you come up with an example of Stoicism in action today.

Maybe he just agrees with Kapernick's actions and admires him. It doesn't mean he's with the whole woke liberal agenda as you call it. I think the US should have a strongly enforced immigration policy. It doesn't mean I agree with the whole right wing Trump agenda.
