Today we are tending to our dairy cows and getting them in the barn for morning chores! Then it is off to the exciting stuff. We start to herd a group of heifers from the yard to our back pasture. It was a learning moment for us and the heifers but all in all everything went very well! Thank you all for watching! Enjoy the video!

Pretty calm cattle move. If the older cows lead,,,the young usually follow fairly easy.

I just love the keyboard commandos that just look for things like your bedding to complain about. You know what works best for your farm. The ladies are your livelihood, they are spoiled animals

i agree! There are people that think they know, and then there are people that really do know, then there are people that don't have a clue, they live in the city on the 25th floor and only know what they see on their social media

Nice to see the family involved in the heifer moving project. Good idea letting them out and get worn down a little. Based on my experience with beef cattle...the heifers are a trip if they get wound up before you're trying to sort, move, etc. A cattle hauler we used to work with was always patient and tried not to rush things resulting in less frustration. A little "cow sense" goes a long way!!!

Great family and very nice farm! I have been watching your videos since the beginning. Don't you need an original swiss simmental calv from old Europa, bavaria. Best wishes and greetings from an organic dairy colllegue from Germany, who is milking and loving his swiss fleckvieh cows.

Thanks for sharing the video. I always enjoy them and learning something new. Pasture on the dairy herd reminds me of when I was a kid and my Grandparents had a small group of cows and they milked B grade and we shipped it in cans. We milked by hand and had a portable milking unit. Take care and I hope you have a great growing season.

I published my debut novel this past year titled 'Cowboy In the Jungle '. It is a modern Western novel. It os an agricultural novel where cows are highlighted and especially Nrown Swiss. The main chatacter eventually travells through nine different central and South American countries. Ending up in Paraguay. I would be honored to present to you a copy

There is also a lot of Jimmy Buffett music that is highlighted in the novel. I think you could say, a lot of Jimmy Buffett kind of characters.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5u3e6OHf519nbMsi=5brsIFbb3pQnLOA6 This video is from “ just a few acres Farm” in central New York . About four minutes in a can see his fly control system, a big sick, 4 inch diameter rope, soaked in diesel, fuel and kerosene, with strips, hanging down the tree the cows faces when they walk under it. If you look at just a few acres Farm in the last month or so, you’ll see a better explanation. Pete says it works really well.

It's a fly rub, you mix insecticide and diesel and soak it. Rain can cause the mix to dilute, and drip onto the ground, and can cause a totally dead spot that never grows anything for years. They are effective, but have trade offs.

The mom's family is originally from Switzerland. Its a family tradition and very useful to be able to find a cow who may be hiding with her calf in the hills/woods. Aaron and his wife actually went there on their honeymoon. There was a video of the trip. But if you want to hear them explain it, look for the video "Herding Cattle To Greener Pastures! The 2024 Spring Cattle Drive!". They talk about it there.
