Drum brakes do not dissipate heat faster than disc brakes! Drum brakes dissipate heat much slower than disc brakes, they can, however be more powerfull for a given diameter as they have much more braking surface area than a disc.
@sc13383 жыл бұрын
Yea, idk what he was talking about
@blitzcraig263 жыл бұрын
I was a bit confused, cause I always thought that disc brakes dissipate heat faster. I can't say for sure though, if it is easier to change the brake shoes on a drum, than the pads on a disc.
@nickd6983 жыл бұрын
@@blitzcraig26 definetely not, its much easier to change pads on a disc. Like I said there is much more braking force on a drum for a given diameter than a disc. think about the size of the area of a drum shoe compared to a disc pad. With the depth of the sidewall on the tyres that they run, the wheel diameter is quite small, therefore they can't run a large disc. also the braking force on a drum brake is maximised at the outside diameter of the drum minus the thickness of the drum, whereas a disc shares the load more towards the centre therefore creating less leverage and less brake force.
@RhumRunner413 жыл бұрын
The disk brake needs to be much bigger to equate the same breaking power as a drum. Besides, drum offers more protection from sand infiltration than disk. Nothing worst than slamming on the brakes and the wheels keep turning because the sand act like tiny ball bearings.
@imchris5000 Жыл бұрын
its more of a translation issue. the drums do loose heat faster than a disc that would be required for that size of truck, the drum brakes have to do much less work so they generate less heat
@KriegerDelfin244 жыл бұрын
Darn it what is he talking about. The Air Intake is at the top on any Onroad and Offroad Truck. The Fuel Tank are always on the side and as low as possible. Discbrakes get rid of the heat way better than drumbrakes. Here the reason is the sand. And Its not a engineer but a mechanic.
@theCrazyFrenchGuys4 жыл бұрын
drum brakes on a truck are often better in offroad conditions,they are more reliable, more brake pad surface, no direct contact with stone sand and rocks, easy to change, and virtually indestructible,and a truck wheel spin a lot slower than a car.

Why does Dakar rally cars/trucks most likely to use dual coilovers while ultra4/ trophy trucks use coilover with bypass? Is there any advantages to have one extra coilover instead of a bypass shock?
@FelixPradoLopez-u7x Жыл бұрын
In short, Dakar rally cars/trucks typically use dual coilovers because they prioritize durability and simplicity for the long and diverse terrains of the Dakar Rally. On the other hand, ultra4 and trophy trucks use coilovers with bypass shocks for more precise control over suspension damping. This setup allows them to adapt to the varied conditions encountered in off-road racing, providing better performance in terms of handling and stability.
