I am getting an open fuel warning and the gauge does not work, they it will go away by it self then come back on. Or sometimes it does not com on at all. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Ill be installing my HDX in my 70s Camaro. I have only one wire for the guage the brown wire. I am guessing I put that into fuel sig. If i do this with no ground on the control box will fuel gauge work? Or will I need to drop my tank and run two wires back.

If the tank is sufficiently grounded to the vehicle, a single wire connection will be OK. A dedicated ground wire is always the best option though, since it rules out potential issues below the vehicle.

​@@DakotaDigitalTV thanks. I set it up with one wire. Works great. Cant believe how easy itbl was to install HDX 70C. Was planning on taking a few days after work to get done. Got it done in less then 3 hours. I spent more time reading the instructions for the past week. This thing is awesome.

I have no way to know what sender was used during the build of my 34 ford, but I did the custom set up, and it initially seemed to work perfectly. Next day I start it up to take a test run, and I get a Fuel F3 error and it shows empty… what might have happened? Could it be interference and I need to twist the wires running to the sender? I thought I was too lucky when it worked first time!

I went back to the sensor to check it and found the signal wire connection had loosened up again and was giving an erratic reading. I terminated that line with a fresh connector and re-seated it and put a drop of lock right on it. New ohm readings matched a GM sensor on the list, and I am in business! Thank you!

@Dakotadigitaltv Mt stock Chrysler guage reads 43 ohms full and when I try to manually adjust to 99% it says fail. Currently set for SW setting what am I doing wrong? Also ford 73-10 didn't work at all ground strap on and checked. No ground wire on - of fuel terminal do I need a new sending unit?

Can you guys do a video on setting up the fuel range learn? I have a set of HDX gauges in my 72 Monte Carlo and no matter how many times I try I can't get the range to E set. I tried multiple times followed the directions and everything but still no luck. My sensor input is set to my specific car and work fine I just can't figure that part out. Thanks!

Hello Austin, The fuel level sensor is ideally grounded to the "FUEL -" terminal on the VHX control box. Alternatively, it would ground to the mounting ring of the sensor, into the tank, then to a chassis ground point from there.

@DakotaDigitalTV right. I have the ground in the FUEL-. My sending unit only has 1 wire coming from it. The instructions recommended running 2 wires back there though. I'm assuming the hot goes on the stud but the second wire (ground) there's not much else down there. So a chassis ground would work for that? Thank you for the reply!

@@austinlarkin5242 Thanks Austin, The stud on your fuel sensor is likely the Sensor/SEN terminal, so this should connect to the FUEL SND terminal on the VHX control box. The mounting ring on the sensor is the ground, so this is ideally connected with a wire to the FUEL - terminal on the VHX control box - or chassis ground near the sensor/tank.

What year G body are you working on? Typically a black ground wire clips onto the sender body, and the pink signal wire goes directly to the instrument panel.

Hello there, When measuring the resistance from a fuel level sensor, one meter lead connects to the body of the sensor (ground), the remaining lead connects to the Sensor/Gauge terminal. It does not matter which meter lead is connected to which terminal.

An OEM replacement fuel level sensor is the best option for this application, since this will drop into place without modification - and can be ready by the Dakota Digital instrument system.

I have a 79 Camaro with original sending unit and it worked on my old gauge but i don't know what sending unit setting to put it on can you help me on which setting to put it to i tried GM 90 with a full tank it marks gas but doesn't go down when gas is used up.... I have it ls swapped

I found that my sending unit was switched on me by the ls swap guy for another car and put one without a ground conection .... so I bought a new sending unit and set it to gm90 now it works
