Thank you so much for these tribute videos to kickboxing luminaries - I have tremendous respect for the Thai fighters, but the world deserves to be shown there is more to kickboxing than playing rock 'em sock 'em robots!

I was wrong about this man. I saw him in the "Choke" documentary. Thought first he was just your confident big mouth American. Boy, was I wrong. He is is legit. Bona Fide warrior. Now I like his confidence and attitude. An inspiration!

You mean you had never heard of cook in the early 90s?He was one of the best US strikers but knew nothing about mma.

@@scarred10You gotta remember he was a folkstyle wrestler as a youth, doing rather well! He also had a background in the traditional Martial arts like Karate and Judo, and Japanese Jujutsu in addition to his Kickboxing, Boxing and Muay Thai experience. @@TheNinjaOfThe906 Why would he? Stand up kicking and punching was about all there was. He Dale, fought karate/TKD tournaments, PkA, WkA, shute boxing, boxing and excelled successfully in all of them. These sports were young and it was pioneers like Cook who paved the way for MMA.

100 fights? Bravo sir. People need to realise kickboxing is as different to Muay Thai as boxing is to kickboxing, not many can go 12x2 rounds under these rules, it's brutal.

It's so interesting to really *See* the influences of style between martial artists. I know where Randy "Boom Boom" Blake got all the spinning back thrust kicks from. I feel privileged to share in this legacy somewhat. I never knew Mr. Cook, but I was taught martial arts by a someone who did.

in those days the problem was that you could play 50 matches and meet at most a couple of strong opponents... the average level was low, that's how they did exceptional numbers, in any case they were exceptional times for these disciplines, they were still shrouded in mystery and the imagination flew, also giving rise to various films with which I grew up dreaming of becoming like these warriors

@oldschoolfighter4 жыл бұрын
Why are you so mean. If you are from Texas, I can say the same about Billy Jackson, he lost to David Humphries by TKO, and defeated the same a truck drivers, his only victory top fighter was over Benny Urquidez, and his weight was in a different category, during the fight they announced 146 lbs, Benny fought in weight to 142 lbs (and Benny's title was up to 142 lbs). Let's be more respectful to kickers of that era. Dale beat fighters from Thailand and Japan, not many of the American kickers can boast of this
@omegasquad8684 жыл бұрын
@@oldschoolfighter lol im not trying to be mean sir just stating the truth especially when it comes to Kickboxing especially american i try to make sure the truth is known its really disappointing to know that current kickboxer(the few that there are) have NO clue of its history and sure Cook fought some good fighters but again in his own backyard its hard to beat the hometown boy hell just didnt have to get KOd but was KOd nearly everytime against the elite fighters of his division and he NEVER fought Rick Roufas, Jean Yves Theriault, Rob Kaman, Ernesto Hoost i mean come on sir lets be truthful here seeing that you made the video and as far as Benny Uruidez is concerned his first ever title was at 155lbs then 145lbs then the 142lbs then 147lbs the fight with Billye jackson was a non title fight contracted at 147lbs Benny had over 40 fights compared to Jackson 12 fights at the time come on lets be honest and respectful to all especially if your going to make a video about it.

@@oldschoolfighter the info comes straight Mr. Jackson himself and Billy also beat Dale Cook that was verifiable by Steve Armstrong(kickboxing historian, promoter, ref, and licensed judge this info is correct again not trying to be mean by stating the truth
