I forgot all about this very rare Friday afternoon Christmas Eve game. I believe this was Mike Ditka's final home game as the Saints head coach.

Why were Madden and Summerall calling this game though? The Saints were horrible this season with a 2-12 record and no hope of the playoffs, and the Cowboys were a subpar team at best. This same week, you had the Vikings vs. Giants and Buccaneers vs. Packers games, and there was a lot more at stake in both of those games as all four of those teams were still in playoff contention.

Thank you for posting these old Saints videos Richard. It is a shame that the league does not allow better resolution on these vintage games as I am sure that they could...

WOW. I've only heard this game on the radio (blacked out?) Never seen a single highlight, now my life is complete. Jake is the man!

Amazing! I just requested this one the other day elsewhere! Perhaps you saw my comment?

No it was just a coincidence. I've been trying to get this game for awhile.

For the Saints, this game was a rare bright spot in one of the most dismal seasons for a franchise with a history of dismal seasons. I will always loathe Mike Ditka. On the day he was named head coach, I knew the Saints were in for a long, long nightmare. This was the Season of the Billy Joes. He should have started Delhomme all season. Why not?

I agree. I mean, Delhomme was only a Super Bowl starting QB one year. But he just didn't have a good ole boy hillbilly name. 😀

Hobert wasn't bad at all. Dell Homie should have been the man all along though.

42:23 Refs still hated the Saints in 99...Hochuli called a personal foul for a late hit against the Saints for a hit below the knees when that wasn't even a rule for several more years (and did so with visible anger), when he should have called intentional grounding on Aikman, which was pretty blatant. This is the game that made me a Saints fan.

Jake Delhomme played in this game? I might have a reason to watch now. Always liked Jake when he was a Panther. Seemed like the poster boy for a limited athlete that still go the job done a good amount of the time. Also liked Eddie Kennison as a receiver, and forgot he played with the Saints. I'm surprised that Madden and Summerall did this game.

John Fox scouted this game and he took notice of Jake for future reference.

He should have been starting all the time for the Saints.

Both teams were garbage and Pat and John still called the game.

The other games must of been shit if Madden and Summerall were there!

This was a single game on Christmas Eve. Whenever they had a single game on or around a holiday (aside from Thanksgiving,) Pat and John called the game. Rare in itself.
