When there is a vote for such control, all stock can vote. So each side would hire banks of people on phones (I interviewed for this once!) to call and get the vote proxy. In general, the average stockholder could go either way, so the shares with the general public are a coin flip.

Don't forget JR got the last laugh on Wendell. Wendell bought the gas field from Cliff Barnes but made an expensive blunder. There was a piece of land that separated the gas field to the main supply. Cliff didn't own it and neither did Wendell when he bought the gas field from Cliff.....JR owned it. Cliff had an easement which allowed him to connect in exchange for West Star voting proxies plus $1 a year. JR pulled Wendell's pants down and gave him a kicking by demanding all the Ewing Oil assets in exchange for his land. Wendell said those assets are worth 100 times what that land is. JR said yeah if you're gonna farm it, but not if you want to run your gas field across it. JR got the land in the first place by swapping it for a piece of land he owned plus Sly wearing a skimpy outfit.

There financial figures on the major stockholders, does not add up. If the public owned 50% percent of outstanding Weststar stock, and Team Cryder had 31% of the stock and Team JR Ewing, controlled 34% of the stock, that's well over 100% of Weststar stock! Yes, I am a discerning viewer, and I, notice things like that on soap operas!

ANTHONY CASHMERE There financial figures on the whole story line does not add up. Weststar was suppose to be the 8th biggest oil company in the world that could buy and sell Ewing oil with ease. Yet some how JR, Sue Ellen and April all had enough money to be major players in a Weststar take over.
@MichaelWilliams-cs9ey2 жыл бұрын
@@wwrryygf the Ewing family are billionaires I think after those Asian wells came in; Sue Ellen is independently wealthy from her lingerie line as is April from her 50% of Jack’s 10% share of Ewing Oil as well as its subsequent sale (estimating around 250 million). So all are multi millionaires
@MichaelWilliams-cs9ey2 жыл бұрын
Most public companies have outstanding stock for sale as well as separate voting shares to ensure the family or executives remain in power. For example the Dillard family of Dillards owns 81.6% voting stock as of 2022, but Newport Trust Company and Southeastern Asset Management Inc own a combined 48% of the common stock.

I realize I'm in the minority but I never bought or enjoyed Sue Ellen's transformation into a successful businesswoman. Imo, she should have died in the Southfork fire. At that point, the character had run its course and it would have been interesting to see JR deal with whatever guilt he felt as he learned to raise John Ross on his own. Plus, Sue Ellen's exit would have opened the door for some new female characters in JR's life. Instead, the writers struggled for years trying to find things for Sue Ellen to do - getting involved with a young lover (Peter - an atrocious storyline), going back to JR again, splitting from JR again, drinking again, getting sober again, going back to JR again, owning a lingerie business, splitting from JR again, getting involved with the son of an ex-mafioso, somehow becoming a hugely successful businesswoman that could stop JR from taking over WestStar, divorcing JR again, becoming a movie producer, getting involved with a screenwriter, and finally leaving town without John Ross. None of it made any sense at all.
