I watched Dallas from 1978 to 1991. Saw every episode when it originally aired. When this one played with the tribute music it was almost surreal. I knew it was the end of a era and sadly the end of Dallas. Yes, I would continue watching and did but I think everyone knew that with Hagmans passing that it would be too big a loss for the show. I wished a season 4 of TNT' s Dallas could have been made to give the series a good ending. What Dallas did for tv, it deserved a much better ending then what it got. One thing about the original Dallas that was fun was that the whole country, the world also watched it. When "Who Shot JR?" aired that Friday night the whole nation watched together and the hype was fun! TV is not like that anymore and it's a loss.
@brandyl21838 ай бұрын
No. Nothing can compare to the traditions of family gathering around on Friday nights to watch Dallas all over the country. Reminds me of my childhood when all my grandparents were alive. Only 3 or 4 channels to choose from. Looking forward all week for the next episode. Tv will never be as special as when we had shows like this.

Look how much the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex grew during that time from ‘78 to ‘91 and when it went off the air the first time after ‘91 until it came back in 2012. Larry Hagman was a big big piece of that. That series, put that area on the map to where it is today. Larry Hagman was Dallas. When you look over Texas icons, you will find Larry Hagman‘s character JR Ewing near the top of that list.

The editing of this makes it look like Larry Hagman in the distant shots. It was actually a Southfork employee walking on the grounds and locking the gate. The only time it is Larry Hagman was when he appears in the flash effects at the end from an unused promo shot. The footage of him is blended nicely to make it appear as if Larry is the one who locked the gate. This certainly was a nice variation on the theme by Robert B. Cairns, and that bugle throughout certainly adds a somber touch to an already sad episode. But, it was certainly effective in elevating the emotion of the story.

I agree. Considering the character itself, J.R Ewing has now reached legendary status I was bewildered why the Emmy's did not recognize Larry Hagman in a more prominent manner. For goodness sake J.R. changed the television landscape forever. If I recall the Emmy's (that year) created quite a stir by paying special tribute to Cory Monteith. No offense to his legion of fans but the young guy had everything to live for and ended it with drugs and alcohol.

Great opening for a special tribute to the most iconic actor and character of Dallas. A Dallas show without JR Ewing it's the end. My Special Bonus After closing the gates, Jr goes back to the ranch. Suddenly he heard something "Hey JR !!!". He stopped and looked behind him. It was Jock Ewing. Jock: Don't be alone and let's go for a walk through Southfork. JR: Yes Daddy, let's go. Jock and JR are walking through Southfork together forever.
