The thing is though, Bolt could have set a faster time, generally his starts weren't great and once he knew he'd won, he would then slow down before the finish line.

you say his starts weren't good, but's that part of his performance, he made up for that with long legs, height and stride length, and his 9.58 he went full pelt the whole 100m, the one in Bejing in 2008 where he showboated he maybe could have got lower than 9.58 but we'll never know.

Well 19.18 in the 200 should have been beaten by Blake when he ran 19.26 - his start was terrible. 9.58 in the 100 will likely never be beaten - does Kelly realize that every other sprinter in history is 2 metres behind that time? The only person to break that needs to be a 7ft basketball player who’s built like Tyson Gay … very unlikely

@fender1000100
@fender1000100 Ай бұрын
No they aren't. One tenth of a second represents about 1 metre in distance so you have Bolt at 9.58. And Tyson Gay and Yohan Blake at 9.69. So the difference between them an Bolt is about 1.1 metres. A sprinter would have to be in the 6 1" to 6 5" range to match it. So what happens if someone runs 9.60 in the next 10 years. That record starts to look less and less invincible. And thats what will happen. Even now this Kishane Thompson. Who is 6 1". Looks like he can AT LEAST bridge the gap between 9.58 and 9.69 on his best day. And post a time in the 9.63 to 9.64 region. The man shut down at 60m and delivered 9.77. So we are gonna see.

For those of us who watch the world of athletics and don’t just turn it on every 4 years. We understand that Usain Bolt’s achievements were INCREDIBLE and whilst Dame Kelly Holmes is correct the technological advancements in footwear and track evolution have progressed its not enough for someone who’s racing at this moment to beat Bolts world records. IMO, individuals like Noah Lyles and/or Christian Coleman might get close but those records will be standing for some time.
@Kugann
@Kugann Ай бұрын
blake got really close and no one even talks about him, there's probably someone out there now who in 5 years will break one of them
@ACsPianoCorner
@ACsPianoCorner Ай бұрын
Hi@@Kugann, You’re correct Yohan Blake was a phenomenal athlete. He doesn’t get his flowers enough. He just happened to be racing during another golden era of sprinting. That said, Blake pushed Bolt who freely admits (during the I Am Bolt documentary) if Blake wasn’t so good at the 200m he wouldn’t have run his bend so hard. Bolt made all other men push hard and Blake/Gatlin gave Bolt a moment of concern. I’m not saying those records won’t be broken - I’m simply saying the current top 100m and 200m runners won’t. The best Noah has achieved this year is 9.81 and Coleman is 9.86. That’s a quite far off 9.58 - in sprinting terms.

@fender1000100
@fender1000100 Ай бұрын
Noah won't break either he isn't tall enough. But he could slip in to 2nd place alltime and run 19.25 in the 200m. What Kishane Thompson has the ability to do on his best day. Is bridge the gap between Bolts 9.58. And Tysons and Yohans 9.69. So he could run in the 9.63 to 9.65 region. And that will make people realize 9.58 isn't unreachable when the next sprinting phenom emerges. Look at the 400m hurdles. Kevin Youngs World record stood for 29 years. Then a white Norwegian destroyed it. So nothing is impossible.
@markmiller4061
@markmiller4061 Ай бұрын
The only person to come close to 9 58 is Usain himself at the London olympics in 2012 when he did 9.64 seconds. I do not see anyone around these days that can run 9.64 ßeconds let alone 9.58. Noah Lyles has not shown that he is any shape to break his own national record of 19.31i the 200m much less 19.19 seconds.

How do you know its gonna stand for 50 years? A phenom can emerge at anytime. Example. If you had gone into a barber shop in New York in 2021 before Tokyo. And told them that Kevin Youngs 400m hurdles world record of 46.78. That had stood for 29 years. Was going to be lowered to 45.94 by a white Norwegian man. They would have laughed at you. And now it's REALITY. So don't be telling be that someone cant emerge or MATURE in the next 20 years. Who can at least match it. Nobody knows.

I think there is already a person who can break Bolt's 9.58 - fellow Jamaican, Keshane Thompson. The guy won the Jamaican 100m Olympic qualifier in the fastest time this year - 9.77 after shutting down after 60m. He practically jogged the last 40 metres. A time of 9.77 already puts Thompson in the bracket of the top 10 fastest men of all time. I do not see Bolt's 19.19 being broken in my lifetime. The 200m is notoriously hard to break. Growing up, the Italian Pietro Mennea held that record for years. Then super man himself, Michael Johnson held it for years. Bolt then smashed Johnson record by a huge margin.
