I'm inspired. I've spent the entire summer learning how to wing foil our local lakes with their gusty and often low winds. Looks like a downwind board is in my near future!

Awesome vid as always! just basically got the board up on foil and it is kinda spooky when it goes from slapping to pumping. What helped me a ton was to go out in marginal conditions, like 8kns. Even the lite wind helps get moving. Try to get on pump down wind for like 40 meter and slowly paddle back up wind to recover. It is a crazy good workout and i need to have good recovery, otherwise Im totally toasted after like 15min

Hey Damo, great videos you guys are continuing to do, thank you! I just got a dragonfly Ginxu 105L and put my 91cm Moses mast and 1100 front wing on it. I've not done a lot of paddle boarding but I'm having trouble trying to get the most power from the stroke,. it seems like I have to turn the paddle a bit to keep the board going straight and it feels like I'm losing some of the power of the stroke because of it. I also tried pulling a bit on the diagonal first and then finishing the stroke straight. Your technique in the video seems like you just pull the paddle straight and don't twist it but I'm sure once you have a bit more speed like you show in the short clips it would be easier to just go flat and straight with the paddle angle and stroke? what's the tip? Thanks!
@DamienLeroyYouTube Жыл бұрын
A shorter mast will help, like closer to 70cm. 92cm is adding a lot of drag

Damo, what do you recommend for fuse and tail sizing to make it as easy as possible?
@DamienLeroyYouTube3 ай бұрын
All depends on someone's weight and skill but I have been leaning on a little shorter fuse to make the board pop up but tail size is always nice if you can go small and eliminate drag but a 21-26 is a good size.Unless you are very large. A though question.

Gewn and Damo, you guys are awesome! A real wealth of knowledge, but even better you're a huge inspiration to us novice foilers! Thanks for all your videos!! I started foiling a few months ago, and I'm now realising that my local spot has really light wind most of the time - like 10 knots or less (sometime close to nothing). I'm not sure whether I'd be better off getting a bigger wing, like the North Loft Pro 7/8m, or a downwind board. Do you guys have any insight into which would make the biggest different in light wind conditions? I'm currently riding a 5'7" x 29.5" Gong Lance, with a 1900sqcm foil and 5.5m wing.
@DamienLeroyYouTube Жыл бұрын
Nick thank you for the kind words! I would lean towards a downwind board as we are realizing that you can ride in such light winds with a long skinny, fast downwind board you can actually use a 5.5 or 6 wing easy in less than 10mph with some practice like this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKKUZJ6sppZ-pqsfeature=shared In 10mph a 7m or 8m will help with a normal wing board but I think there is more potential to the longer downwind board. My honest thoughts.
@robmayhew3633 Жыл бұрын
Second to what Damo says. I struggled with a shorter and wider sup board for a long time and recently went to a DW board. Made all the difference popping up and shocked how well it flies when on foil and winging. I resisted the board change too long, it was the biggest difference by a lot.

@@robmayhew3633 thanks a lot for that Rob! Seems like this is the consensus! I guess a DW board will always be more versatile than a bigger wing.

Damo, you usually make everything look so easy... not this though lol. Quick question do you need to lengthen the paddle from what you would normally have it when SUP without foiling?
@DamienLeroyYouTube3 ай бұрын
The best paddle length for DW SUP foiling is more or less around your height, personally prefer slightly under my height

Hello Damo and Gwen I got my KT Ginxu 105L a month or so ago and have gone out 5-6 times and it’s tough ! I am definitely making progress each time but still some ways to getting up on foil! I tried the bigger Axis 1310 front wing ( as Gwen suggested) but actually preferred the 1150 which felt was easier to pump! I weigh 145lbs and wonder if that is a factor in choosing size of front wing or should I still be looking for a bigger front wing 🙏
@DamienLeroyYouTube11 ай бұрын
I think you just need more time on the water. It is not easy you are part of the 1% doing it. :) Being so small I would say the 1150 will be easier to manage and might not get up as easy but in time will be great! Stick with it like you said you are making progress! :). Enjoy!

Hey, I just tried sup foiling on flatwater with the 115l version of the Duotone Downwinder and the Fanatic high aero aspect 2000 wing for the first time, but after a couple strokes the board immediately turns and doesn’t go straight. I have a 75cm mast, so it’s quite confusing. Any tips?
@DamienLeroyYouTube4 ай бұрын
It's normal you will get better with going straight. Try to not end your paddle stroke too far back as that causes the board to turn. Also if you twist your wrist at the end in the opposite direction it helps keep the board straight.

I think the board is a little too large and sticky to paddle up on flat water! (not saying it is not possible but would not be easy). For sure with a little swell you can get up on foil 100% with your set up. The boards that make it easy to do this are very narrow and skinny for speed. I hope that makes sense.
