I'm a drummer and I've seen lead singers lose their rag like this before. If they wrote the song and they dreamt up the vision I found that it's best help see their vision out rather than feel disrespectee by their tantrums. The session musician gets paid to provide and if they aren't providing expect the artist to let you know. If you think you know better than a paying artist then pay for a studio and band yourself I say

One added point though, listening to the take the artist took acception to I noticed two things about the situation. The artist was kind of right about the band playing more strictly to the metronome and so the wind instrument parts came off as slightly disconnected to the more laid back and loose feel the rhythm section had established against the click themselves. The rhythm section being the drums and bass and their parts were certainly more slinky and fell a slight behind the strict metronome pulse, a feeling that was desired by the artist in question. However, the artist was wrong in his assessment as the the fact that the brass band played more strictly and directly on the metronome pulse had a more affected tube result because the track now had and audible reference and adherence to the original and universal pulse which would allow the bass and drum playing to achieve the desired slinky time affects. If the whole band is behind the beat then the whole band may as well played on the beat. The metronome guide allows musicians and musical parts to play and interplay feels. The drag of a bass part is only a drag in relation bro a straight ahead guitar part. If both drag then the total sum of the parts make up a straight ahead performance irrespective of how they play against a metronome. I listened to this again and I think the literal playing of the brass section on the metronome pulse sounded and felt better against the laid back rhythm section . I disagree with the artists view here but still, if he is paying then you must play it

Damon is so right. Click tracks suck! Playing with a click is not something you should rely on unless you want to be a follower. You should learn how to do it but it simply isn't musical. If one plays a ballad to a click and there's a point where you speed up, the click will sound wrong. Been done that a zillion times. You are better off with a good drummer who doesn't need a click. That's how almost all great music has been made!!!
@ajakubus Жыл бұрын
Agreed, drummer needs a click and then the rest follows or have a conductor. Playing to click is good for practise, not performance.
@ToneSherpa9 ай бұрын
I do see the utility of needing to sync it to film for the rhythm section. But if you don't want the horn to play with the click you should probably just mute it lol
@Noisehead1015 ай бұрын
@ToneSherpa yeah, I don't get why they didn't mute the click considering the drums and other instruments were already recorded 😂. The only reason I can think of is that the drums drop out in some sections of the song in parts we didn't hear on the video, and the brass section re-enters with drums at the same time, then hearing a click for that makes sense. Even then you could still mute it once the drums are back in.
