Huge fan of Dan, but I could have sworn I saw an Animal Cage video where he deadlifted Nearly 900lbs? I don't know how much he weighed in that video and I could be wrong, but I'm pretty positive it was significantly north of the 783 he pulled at this meet. I understand that strength is lost when cutting and trying to make weight for a meet but I'm certain I've seen him pull near 900 and mid 800's in several videos. Just wondering if he was sick or something was off for this meet?

Can't believe I'm replying to a 4 year old comment, but you lose strength when you deadlift after squat and bench as opposed to in deadlift only events.

It's crazy to see how little progress is made each year for someone at Dan's level. Not a knock on him, just an observation. Still an incredible performance from him.

He had a bit more in him though especially with his grip failing him on deadlifts. He improved and didn't even have an amazing meet for him.

what impresses me the most is that he could go 5 for 9 and still set the WR total after a 50+ pound weight cut. i can only imagine what he could have hit if his game was more on point.

It's crazy to think that weak grips'd be equivalent to having say weak hammies or lower back in a deadlift. pretty overlooked for the people who'd religiously use straps in gym and count their lift. (not that i've seen in most Dan's vids).

***** does dan green train in straps always?
@heathnguyen
@heathnguyen 9 жыл бұрын
straps can alter your pulling biomechanic hence not ideal
@TheViolander
@TheViolander 9 жыл бұрын
***** Point of using straps in the gym is that sometimes you deadlift for volume. For example I would never compete for 3-5 reps. You use straps for some sets and go raw for those PRs and top sets.

+deadboy600 I used to rip calluses all the time. Had monsters on both hands. Got my pumice stone and haven't had any problems since. Close to a 500 pull but the difference is I only weight 165. That shit works. I never use straps and my grip has never been a problem. Of course you'll have grip problems if you don't train your grip.

Man it's really depressing seeing Dan losing strength. I believe he totaled the exact same numbers as last year's RUM. His deadlift used to be in the mid-high 800s. Still such an amazing athlete, but I guess injuries accumulate over time. Still awesome lifts
@wvjon75
@wvjon75 9 жыл бұрын
He's not losing strength. His mid 800's deadlifts were done at a higher bodyweight. He may have had a hard weight cut and been a little off. He'll deadlift mid 800's again I'm sure.
@matthew-tq7fj
@matthew-tq7fj 9 жыл бұрын
Not losing strength dumbass. He's had multiple injuries since RUM 7 and he had a higher bodyweight then. He cut a shitload for this meet as well, which puts a huge toll on the body.

@FiestyPikachu

That was also not on the same day as a 380kg squat. A squat that heavy takes its toll on your body especially when his squat stance and sumo stance is fairly comparable. Also, the animal cage has the whippiest deadlift bar ever hence easier to get off the ground. And he didn't have to cut weight for the cage.
@FiestyPikachu
@FiestyPikachu 9 жыл бұрын
Also you could say that competition plates are better calibrated (possible slightly heavier depending) than the regular iron plates used in the cage. Also competition plates sit closer to the centre of the bar, meaning that there is even less whip on the bar. And he didn't have to wait for a down command in the cage (didn't have to hold it for a second or so at the top). His grip would have been fucked from bench too. There are many factors.
