Tell you what, I've been a youtuber for 18 years making usually only one video every month or two. I think that's one of the main reasons why I'm still a youtuber when most people that started when I did are long gone. If you're pushing yourself to the point that you're no longer having fun the content suffers anyway. You can 100% be a successful youtuber with zero upload schedule. I've never had one. Also, I've adopted the philosophy that any business which sucks away more of your life than 40hrs a week has not yet become a success. Good for you for pulling back. I hope you enjoy it!

I became a stepfather to a 7 year old girl in 2017 that doesn’t have a father. I had no experience with children. So many times we bonded over watching your videos. Me asking her questions about what you’re finding and her looking up more information on the internet. Both of us equally fascinated. She loves rock hounding on the beaches of BC and I’ve taken her to Yale panning where she was absolutely ecstatic to find some little gold and cool red garnets herself. This year for Xmas despite the new tablet and video games her favourite gift was a $30 gem stone advent calendar. Our relationship and the passion she has for “earth treasures” as we call them would never have been this strong if it weren’t for the bridge that your 20 minute Sunday videos built between us. Dan I couldn’t be Prouder of you!! I had a career that I got to the top of and then my world fell apart. I spent so much time trying to get to the top and make money that I sacrificed family time. Then I lost my second youngest child to a car accident. She was 21. I missed a lot of time when she was growing up and I was working on goals in my career. Dan tomorrow isn’t promised. Take the time to do what makes you and your family happy. It will be your best legacy. They are your greatest achievement. We love you Dan , but do whatever makes you happy. If we see you on your travels we wish you all the success and peace you wish for. Btw my husband knew I loved your work. He surprised me with a pair of gold pans for Christmas. Treatment was very harsh and I didn't find being around others very easy, the positive nature and passion for prospecting you bring to your content helped me in ways you will never know. Good on you for taking a break. I've been watching for almost 10 years, I think I started watching your content when you had around 30k subs and I was looking for gold panning advice cus gold panning around here is very hard. You aren't just the biggest mining channel on KZbin, you paved the way for other mining channels to get even slightly big, before you KZbin had absolutely nothing significant for mining content, and once you broke the ice, the entire genre bloomed around you. You weren't the first, but you're the one that got the rockslide going. You have done a great service to the prospecting world as a whole, showing an industry that is not generally understood by average folks, and created a space where other creators could flourish. I for one am happy you are gonna focus on stuff you want to do, because at the end of the day, for you prospecting is passion before it is profit, at least that's how I've always seen it. I bet your viewership will drop, but if you even just release a handful of videos about things you really care about each year, me and I'm sure thousands of others will always come around to see them. I would have one request, and that would be that before you stop posting completely, if you choose to completely stop, is I would like to see a complication video of all of your favorite finds across the years, showing off the best of your work. I'm sure many of the rest of us would love to see the "Dan Hurd Hall of Fame"

I turned to you over the last year when I had trouble sleeping. My partner and I got really into gold panning when we wintered in New Zealand.
