Here's a cover on my album, which is not something I'd usually do, but it's a traditional cover I enjoy immensely and nobody knows the writer. I just love this song so much that it felt like one of my own and I had to record it.
It's a song of suffering, a song of freedom, a song of defiance and and song about loyalty and friendship. It's a song sung by labourers working on logging or railroad construction from the early 20th century in the American South. You can still feel the suffering in the song and hear how it served a functional purpose with its rhythm and call and response type vocals to it.
I combined several different versions of the song into this one here. I hope you dig my take on it.
